POST GAME Round 3 - Tigers vs Broncos

Come on guys. Bird touching the ball is not a try. You need to get some kind of up and down force on it. He got a mere horizontal push.

I just woke from a nightmare that we didn't score a try and went to golden point only to be given a contentious penalty to win a dour contest against the tigers. lol thank goodness it was all a dream.

The way I like to approach contentious decisions is to put the shoe on the other foot.

Would you have been ok if that was a tigers player, clearly knocking the ball on, be awarded the try?

I'd be the first one to blow up when our opposition gets awarded a try that doesn't deserve to be. In fact, I do blow up, every time. I'm filthy that Luke Brookes' field goal was allowed to stand when our defenders were clearly obstructed. I'm filthy that TPJ has been pinged twice in two weeks for not playing the ball properly, while the Cowboys got away with one leading to a try last week, and the Tigers got away with at least 3 tonight (though not leading to trys on this occasion). I still haven't let go of Slater leading with his feet to deny a match-winning try to Ben Hannant a decade ago.

But had that been scored by the Tigers, I'd agree with the decision. It was a try.

Clearly I would have been ok with it. Are you suggesting that the downward pressure must reach a certain level of kilopscals befroe it's awarded. In my view this was a try. Just as in Gould, Johns , Fittler and Lockyers opinion it was a try.

I had a nightmare that Oates and TPJ got injured tonight, I know which is worse of the two.

The rules don't say that downward pressure needs to be on the top of the ball :) from the rulebook:

Grounding

Grounding the Ball includes:
a. Placing the ball on the ground with hand or hands, wrist or forearm
b. Exerting a downward pressure on the ball in contact with the ground
c.
Dropping on the ball and covering it with the front part of the body above the waist and below the neck

I kept trying to wake up, but then to my horror, it dawned on me....... I was already awake

Okay, top half of the ball. Ie, the half of the ball you'd need to touch in a downward motion to create downward pressure.

I’m saying he actually has to ground the ball

Arrgh. Is the ball in between his fingers and the ground. Surely if Gould and Johns award it that should be enough they will find any opportunity to rob the Broncos .

I watched fox... like any sane person would, and they were all of the opinion it wasn’t a try... including two ex broncos

I watch both, Fox is hardly any better and often guilty of as much trash commentary and discussions/views. That doesn't mean I'm saying it was a try either cause I'm not convinced it was anyway, I just don't think they have anymore credibility.

Good. Grief.

But the ball is already on the ground. You touch it boom Shakkalakker. were are going to have to disagree because I don't think it could be clearer.
