POST GAME [Round 5, 2023] Broncos vs Wests Tigers

After the last few we've had, I am just happy that we were able to have some fun watching us play a bottom team, not having to be nervous that we will lose the game the entire time.

Also it was great to see haas show some aggression when twal was cucking around
Twal was justified in getting uppity .Payne had just given him a smack in the chops . I like the way Payne handled himself . Took no shit .But didn't punch .
Imagine putting someone on report for absolutely nothing, and penalizing them for struggling to break free of a player holding them down by the collar 🤷
Payne did give him a smack in the face ..

I think something to consider for the folks (rightly) pointing out that what we are doing atm won’t work against the best teams, two things. We are undoubtedly a second half team, go with them in the first and then finish them in the second half. And secondly I think we are going with teams at their level. We will settle on a standard of play at a top level going forward but being able to absorb, adapt and repel loose play is valuable atm. We played the Panthers the way the game required and won, same with Cows.

Definitely lots to improve, everyone knows that but the attitude can’t be faulted and that is more important than polish atm. That will come.

Mam actually had a bit of a shocker but he has so much attack in him, even a shocker for him still gets tries for the team, love that kid.

But yep, Walters was that good tonight. I challenge you to watch him in the replay and come up with any other conclusion. He was in everything both sides of the ball when he was on.
Note the 1st try Ezra set up was a left footed kick . That's 2 tries from kicks on his left foot . Makes him an even harder guy to defend .

He's going to be absolute gun man, I don't mind at all that him, Walsh and Cobbo continue to try their hand even if it doesn't come off. You want your x factor guys to not put the cue in the rack and our guys don't and these three have oodles of x factor. Mam is the most exciting 6 we've had since Lockyer.

One thing Mam has that Milf could never guarantee-Mam will always be fit as ****. He’s a unit.

Seriously…lets make the following pages a “No Billy Hate”. He was good. By good I mean a solid 5/10.
Facts:
He won’t ever be a Harry Grant. However, last few weeks and dare I say this year, he has been decent. He lacks the skill and at 28 or whatever he is, he won’t ever get better. His effort level cannot ever be questioned.
Don’t get me wrong, I was definitely one of the people piling on and calling him “daddy’s boy”. But all in all, he has played his part along with Paix. We need them both to allow Mozer to develop into an 80min NRL hooker.
So here’s to Billy 🍻 ❤️
Nice kick by Bill from dummy half early .

Shout out to our backs last night as well:

Walsh - 194m!
Arthars - 117m
Staggs - 122m
Farnworth - 164m
Cobbo - 234m!

ALL of them ran over 10m a run and on top of Haas and Carrigan, that right there is what is giving us the opportunities we have to throw our weapons at sides.

Interestingly, Capewell also ran over 100m. Jensen and Taupau also over 100m, Jensen in particular is an absolute gem of a signing for us. He is as good as anyone not named Haas, JFH or any other big name. He is massive value for money.

Don't want to be negative but Palasia only ran for 42m and with one of the slowest play the ball speeds for our forwards and 14 tackles with 3 misses and an equal team high 3 errors. Just not seeing what he brings that Hetherington doesn't or Piakura couldn't if we gave him a shot earlier.

I don’t know if I’m just being a hater or am just trying to contain my own expectations but as good as Walsh is, I am yet to see him fully show the attributes that make a good origin player. He plays low % footy and avoids contact at the moment. It works at club level but if he doesn’t have the toughness for origin it will be exposed pretty quickly

He's still a work in progress at his age. His attack is origin level, not sure about the other things but i'd certainly have no hesitation about putting him in there if he is needed.

I said it on the comms thread, our backs were the ones who broke them. I dont think our forwards got out of second gear.

Saying that, i'm still not one who gets carried away with meters made.

Billy was arguably top 3 on ground, he was absolutely excellent. Just about everyone bar Palasia was very good and that is amazing but given how much vitriol Billy gets, I'm just highlighting in from the rooftops because he won't get the plaudits he deserves after how good he was last night.

Fair go. It's more of a compliment to the quality of the rest of the spine that we're not relying on the dummy half. The rest of our spine is totally fucking awesome. Our dummy halves aren't holding them back.

Yeah, that's basically the argument that the Walters/Paix defenders have been making for months...

I think defensively, he's one of the best halves out there as well. It's too early for him and he isn't unseating Munster of course but he will be an origin player.

I was replying to @theshed post about Walsh 😆
