POST GAME [Round 5, 2023] Broncos vs Wests Tigers

Seriously…lets make the following pages a “No Billy Hate”. He was good. By good I mean a solid 5/10.
Facts:
He won’t ever be a Harry Grant. However, last few weeks and dare I say this year, he has been decent. He lacks the skill and at 28 or whatever he is, he won’t ever get better. His effort level cannot ever be questioned.
Don’t get me wrong, I was definitely one of the people piling on and calling him “daddy’s boy”. But all in all, he has played his part along with Paix. We need them both to allow Mozer to develop into an 80min NRL hooker.
So here’s to Billy 🍻 ❤️

Since we're sidetracking into Origin selection, I'd like to throw Ezra's hat into the ring. He can't be far off the conversation now, particularly if his rival is Tom Dearden. He might only be one or two injuries away from contention.
I think he has way too many errors in his game at the moment when compared to Dearden.

He's very raw though and is still finding his way in the NRL.

I'd think Sam Walker is above him in the pecking order and probably Brimson being brought in as a 6 as well... and then you've also got Bhunt into the halves with Mahoney coming in if the shit really has hit the fan

Yep I love what Ezra is doing for the Broncos but he doesn't have the control YET to be in the Qld team.

Just a general question, is Suncorp now a cashless (card only) venue? Heading down for magic round & usually just cash in all my loose change & take cash

Who was hating on Billy?

Pretty sure mate. All the main places like the beers and the food marketplace are all cashless, think the merchandise too.

I’m trying to think because I never have cash so don’t really notice it but was there last night and positive it is all cashless.

Will drink to that, he’s definitely had a part of all our wins 🍺

Maybe for you it doesn't, but Queensland doesn't work like that. If he is fit and playing decent footy then they will stick with a bloke who had a huge hand in our victory last year.
I don’t know if I’m just being a hater or am just trying to contain my own expectations but as good as Walsh is, I am yet to see him fully show the attributes that make a good origin player. He plays low % footy and avoids contact at the moment. It works at club level but if he doesn’t have the toughness for origin it will be exposed pretty quickly

The bar is definitely cashless now... haven't bought food at the ground this year yet so not sure with that, but I'm guessing they're moving that way

Was a good game to watch live, Reece is even better looking in person. Haven't been to a game since pre-covid but I'm keen to start watching a few more live now.

Haas is a monster, he's a proper big unit on the field, I'm glad he's starting to realise his size should be used to bowl people.

Riki was brilliant, probably his best game in Broncos colours, and Kotoni is just about the best centre in the game this year IMO.

It's hard to take too much out of the game because the Tigers are absolute suck, but there's good signs for us.

I hate to be negative but that was a disgraceful way about going about playing against an 0-4 team. They take the easy way out every week and try and put the game to bed and it always comes off cause we are versing diabolical sides but they never learn there fucken lessons. They play with such an undeserved arrogance and it looks scrappy, ugly and cheap which is really disappointing this is a team that will get themselves deep into this year off this disgraceful crap they think is ok to chuck up. This team doing what they can do without putting any effort in should be $1.05 to win the premiership if they actually put in a well played game but they are just playing cheap footy and at the end of it note that this poor footy is what they are chucking up and then doing **** all about it week in week out. Nothing will change next week guarantee and I hate to be negative but **** me this is gonna end horribly this way. I am a very harsh critic of the way we perform so I don’t expect everyone to think as strictly on the game as I do but I don’t think we are trying as hard as we can and I don’t think we are playing remotely anywhere near what we can and I’m sorry I’d rather my team be half as good and be proud of there week to week efforts than to watch this rubbish that a group of very special players chucks up. It’s disheartening when on the otherside of town there is a team who play well above what they should be chucking up every week. We are levels off what we should be and that’s great if they pull there heads in, but if they don’t, this premiership crap that gets spoken about every two minutes by everyone but the people on this forum is a pipe dream. Sorry to be negative but I don’t look at that result overly favourably when we hear the same shit after the game and they do nothing about it.
TLDR... LOL

I've noticed him doing that for the last few games where he just refuses to die with the ball on sweeping plays, but in the cows game he definitely wasn't shirking away from the contact... and was making try savers on his goal line.

It may be a little bit of complacency coming in it since his massive game against the cows... and he's trying to score or set something up on every play instead of taking the tackle.

I feel the defensive lapse last night was all about shutting up shop and switching off, because the game was won... if that occurs when the game is on the line then we'll have issues.

I don't have a massive issue with him passing on kick returns though... it can be a coaching tactic where you don't want your small body fullback getting ragdolled by the kick chase, so you give it to the big body winger instead.

It also looks like Walsh basically plays dummy half for us on yardage sets so it keeps him available by passing to someone else for the kick return.

Yeah he’s a great player no doubt. His Cows game should be his bench mark if he wants to be an origin auto pick. Not the attacking stats, but the exact things you described. The contact, the willingness to take the tackle instead of forcing the play.

Anyone know why Kobe Hetherington played for Wynnum Manly last week and then Souths Logan this week? Bit odd😂
