PRE-GAME Round 6 - Broncos vs Roosters

I think we are in with a big chance, so much so i feel confident. I watched the chooks game and you cant take anything away from the sharks. They were more physical, the chooks need jwh. The sharks also tried alot of things and did not get caught up in the middle of the field. Maloney and pierce need to be worked over as they both fail in th spotlight all they have is set play, set d that predicts block plays and sweeping backlines. If we utilise milfs running game and hunts we could hurt them. We just need to be competing for 80 mins. I really think we need more inside balls and the like in offence. Really looking forward to this one, shame i have work

Um, yes? The Titans, Cowboys and Manly have been shit teams this year. As have the Sharks.

At this early stage of the season when each team hasn't even come close to playing half the other teams you'll get a much more accurate reflection of the rankings by looking at the for and against rather than point. looking at it that way with games to go we get a ladder something like this.

1. roosters
2. rabbitohs (I'd probably swap 1st and 2nd but now with Reynolds out it's probably accurate)
3. Storm (I could have 3 and 4 the wrong way around)
4. panthers
5. Bulldogs
6. Broncos
7. Newcastle
8 - 13 tigers, eels, raiders, warriors, dragons (These guys are all very close. too close to call considering some have games to play)
14-16 sharks, manly, cowboys

I looked at the ladder by +/- earlier today and it was something like this. Obviously after today it could change significantly. However either way I think it is the most accurate reflection of the team rankings you're going to get.

Adam Blair can consider himself a bit lucky to immediately get back into the first team. Hopefully he can produce his Cowboys form and not his form of the last 4 years.

Thaiday not charged for his high shot, clear to play the Roosters.

Guerra suspended for 1 game, Jennings clear to play.

Suspension while injured is stupid.

Please don't comment if you didn't actually watch the game. . I hope you did. Because the roosters were very lazy
I did watch the game and along with the commentators I thought the better ,more committed team won. I've lived long enough to know that prejudice can colour one's view. Also, whether or not the Roosters were 'lazy' is irrelevant, the Sharks were not and produced a good performance. We should be happy with the result as it kept us in 2 nd and they belted the Roosters in defence, with a short turnaround for them, signs are good !!!

This for me says it all, especially the bolded bits.

The Roosters are predictable but then at their best they execute so well and so quickly.

Just watched a nice short kick in the middle fo the park by Cronk for Slater which led to a try with good support play - exactly what we need to do to - maybe Hunt or Macca short kicking over the Roosters forwards to capitalise on Milf's speed and footwork.

Given the choice, I'd always like opposition teams to be close to full strength. I think you can read more into a good or bad performance if all hands are on deck. It's a pipe dream though with injuries and suspensions.

Regardless of who is in or out from either side, if we keep falling asleep for 20 minutes in the second half the Roosters will win.

I take your point and agree in principle. At the same time, we did pretty well against the Titans with Hodges and Kahu out, Maranta at FB and Niko with limited minutes 'cos of injury. The Titans played well. We played better. I think the issue for me is how good the depth is, because there will, as you say, almost always be injuries and suspensions.

Hodges and Kahu are also key players in our top side. Made that win all the better.

Guerra has a broken jaw doesn't he?

I heard that, and that it was going to be wired, then I read he has a broken cheekbone. Either way, looks like he is out for at least 4 weeks.

Won't Guerra have to serve the suspension when he is fit to play?

Are you sure that's how it works?

Didn't Reynolds get suspended after fracturing his arm? I'm pretty sure he didn't serve his suspension after being fit.

Easy to fake being fit anyway, hey you're running, and you're telling us you feel no pain, you're good to go.

I read somewhere that the NRL rules state that a judiciary penalty can be served for any match in which the player is eligible for selection. A player is till technically eligible for selection even when he is injured. So Guerra serves his suspension while injured.

That definitely makes sense and probably the way it should be, but it has never been this way and I'm not sure where the thought that it is has come from
Because I have heard that a lot over the last few months.

A suspension can be served at any point even trial games.

While it would be nice for the player to have to be fit to serve their suspension, it could never work Because it would be to easy to manipulate.

Clubs just wouldn't release too much information about the injury and if they know it will be a 4 week injury they would just announce the player is fit and ready to play early enough for the suspension to be served
