I actually reckon we can win this. Sharks in Danger of reading their own press I think!
I don't think they're reading their own press.. they have proper systems to fall back on (to avoid complacency) and a good halfback to steer them around.

They also have their hooker providing a lot of spark from dummy half to represent another threat

Sharks forwards are average especially if funicane is out. They make all their yards by throwing the ball around to their edges. Our edge defence needs to be spot on or we are in for a bad night.
Their bench forwards this week were garbage... Tolman is looking well past it and Fifita was done about 2yrs ago. Hunt is fine, but he's only one player.

McInnes typically comes off the bench though and would absolutely rip us to shreds from that role. If Finucane is back, which he should be because he missed this week due to concussion and the short turnaround, then McInnes will be back to the bench.

I'd imagine Fifita should be the one to make way, but Fitz keeps picking him... maybe as a squad morale kind of thing?? but he's offering so little

If we are to win then our bench forwards could play a big role... I would have concerns about us controlling McInnes though. I think he works too many quick ptb's which is the real killer for us and of course the ref will no doubt find plenty of 6 agains to pin against us

I get the feeling the match-up between Staggs and Talakai is an audition for Origin.

They are both fighting for a centre spot.

They have their weaknesses.

That play we did with Oates, we should be doing that but targeting Hynes and Moylan.

We need to get into an arm wrestle early, so I reckon Turps into 9 for 25-30 mins is what should happen. Then bring on Paix. I hope Kevvie doesn't tinker too much with the side this week because I really liked the balance of it. We just need to hang in because our bench has more potency than theirs and we can clearly run out games in the back end, we just suck at opening up with energy aside from Haas.

I really hope the switch flicking on late this game has lit the fuse to what this team can be and it is onwards and upwards. I fear it was an anomaly and we head back three steps.

Good post. Conversely though, I hope the strong finish doesn’t give them false confidence to just expect to score at will again and not do the dirty work that we lacked in the first half.

I think we just need to do something unexpected like get in range and have someone kick a field goal within the first few sets to get some points on the board, throw their rhythm off and see if they second guess themselves.

I know gamble did not play great against the dogs, but I hope he stays in the 6. We at least showed some backline movements on the left side and made ground, when previous weeks the ball has died with billy walters when he does a left foot step and is promptly tackled.

I will forgive gamble his missed tackles because he did line up opposite TPJ and most halves would struggle with that task. He at least made contact and slowed him up enough for others to get there.

I always wondered what would happen if a team took the field goal every time

Rugby league is still a very simple game. If we play direct footy up the middle and instruct our middles to go in search of quick PTBs and then defend their middles and control their momentum coming out of their own end then Hynes and the rest of their backline becomes fairly ineffective.

When you compare both packs I think the Broncs edge it in terms of ability. If we can keep our discipline and somehow minimilise the amount of 6 agains against us (I know that is easier said than done) we'll be in with a great shout for an upset.

Having said that our line needs to stay intact when defending as I have seen the Sharks on numerous ocassions spread the ball wide early and Talakai has managed to make the break against a disorganised/slow moving edge defence.

We have to get some consistent line speed going in defence and stop being so passive and giving up metres so easily. It has got me stuffed how this continues to be not addressed and we keep doing the same things over and over again.

because whoever coach is in charge of our defense is terrible at it. btw does any one actually know who our defensive coach is? is it kevie is it one of the assistants or combination of all?

Not every set, as a counter attack to swing the momentum back your way when you everything is going against you would be enough. Tries are still the most preferred by everyone and most entertaining way to score points. Nobody wants them to go away.

Although I'm still surprised teams don't attempt to kick them more in games currently. Vlandys created the two point goal for more entertaining games, but nobody's tried grinding down a scoreboard deficit with them yet.
