Ezra, Brenko, Jordan and Logan starring in some tries here. Liking Ezra's passing game:

Was there a professional shouter next to the microphone there?

This week against the Sharks is shaping up as the real test to show where the Broncos are at.
The Sharks are playing great football at the moment and we showed against the Dogs that we can put points on when we click.
I know people will say " it's only the Dogs " and fair enough but I think we are showing enough to suggest a few green shoots are sprouting to hopefully give us hope that a footy team is slowly building.
The forwards are starting to hold their own and providing the backs opportunities to strut their stuff. And when Carrigan comes back i think we'd be nearly at full strength in the forwards although Piakura fit and firing would also add some starch to the defence. Line speed as has been often stated, needs to improve but I'm not sure how the coaching staff are wanting the players to approach this. Maybe they're slowing it down to provide a united front to confront the opposing team, I'm not sure but the better teams tend to use a speedier defensive line for better results.
Fullback seems to be our real problem i think , even though TMM went ok against the Dogs. To me he has 5/8 written all over him and I'm sure he and Reynolds would be a good combination and would give options on both sides of the field and put the opposition in two minds. Currently with Gamble (and Walters before him) the opposition knows that Reynolds is really the only go to man and so it's easy for them to concentrate on him and shut the play down. TMM seems to have more ball playing about him and a bit more speed and elusiveness which would make us much more dangerous .
Now for fullback, it's all been said before so it's either move Cobbo there and Periera(excuse the spelling if wrong)to the wing which in my mind would work ok.
Or give Herbie a shot there and move Cobbo to centre and Periera to wing, which also would work ok imo. Personally I'd lean towards the Cobbo at fullback option and that would give us attacking options all over the paddock.
I'd love to see Kev give this a run but I'm sure that he'll stick with the same combinations as last week unfortunately.
I'd also like to give Paix a chance to start and Turpin come on from the bench at the 25 minute mark till halfway through the 2nd half and then bring Paix on to bring us home. It's worthwhile giving it a shot for a few weeks to give it a chance to work and if it doesn't, swap them around.
I've probably got it all wrong but I'd like to see those small tweeks just to see if they'd improve us.

GO BRONCOS.
This might be a terrible idea but just throwing it out there. Would playing Cobbo at 5/8 in defence and swapping with TMM in attack be such a bad idea?

Wendell Sailor:

“No-one fears the Broncos. Payne Haas is a terrific player and he does a lot of hit-ups and tackles but he is not going to cut you in half like a Petero Civoniceva or a Shane Webcke. You just think the Broncos will always give you a chance because you are not scared of them."
“They need someone like a Felise Kaufusi. I was a massive fan of Jaydn Su’A and was surprised when he left in 2020. He plays that sort of role and I think they could with that sort of player. You know when you play the Broncos they might go toe to toe with you with players like Kurt Capewell who is a good player. But there is no hit man like a Su’A, Peter Ryan or a Brand Thorn … someone who is going to tear you apart."
“Past Broncos sides were lucky in that they had guys like Gorden Tallis you’d think “I will get on the back of that.’ Cobbo is so naturally gifted. I know they play him on the wing but I really think he could take the hits at fullback because he is such a skilful young player."
“He reminds me a bit of Lote Tuqiri in the way he has time on his side. I never had that. I had aggression, speed and a bit of attitude but not that time that some very special players have. Every time I watch Cobbo I get excited. I just think the kid has got game. There is no doubt he is made for Origin. Players who have time on their side are special. Those young players get smashed but they find a way to score a try and get involved.’’

GO BRONCOS.
I think Kevvie said after the Penrith game that it would be an opportunity for Cobbo to jump into the fullback role, except it was then revealed that Tesi would be gone for an extended period.

If Tesi was only out for 2 weeks it could've presented an opportunity to give Cobbo a taste of the spot before moving back to the wing when Tesi returned. A safety net was there ready to go.

However with Tesi out for an extended period you arent really just giving Cobbo a taste anymore (noting he's meant to be the next big thing for us at the position)... you're putting him in there to basically see out the year.

If Cobbo went to fullback straight away and was underdone defensively or fitness wise (he looked spent after half a game vs Penrith) then Kevvie has to make the decision to drop the next big hope back to ISC or back to his wing.... and suddenly everyone is worried.

If he can find a stopgap (like TMM) to cover fullback for a month or so, he can have Cobbo focussing entirely on what's required at fullback at training through the week... extra sessions with Darius to get his defence up to speed, etc.

If TMM can continue to hold his own then they can continue to fast track development of Cobbo until he is fully ready to take on the role.

At that point TMM can move to 6 if needed... unless that position is filled in the meantime.

We may as well treat this as our Grand Final in the leadup. That's just about the importance this result commands for us.

I said earlier but we really need to finish round 10 with a minimum 4 wins. Not dropping the dogs game has put us in a pretty good position going into a few tough but winnable games. The Sharks game will likely be the hardest but teams are all over the shop at the moment so anything could happen.

I think finishing round 10 with 5 wins is a very decent start to the season considering where we’ve come from.

We get through the next 3 games with at least 1 win we then have a run of games that will really show where we are at, and can really put us in a good position moving forward.

From round 11:
Knights, titans, bye, Canberra

All very winnable games before having to face Storm in round 15.

Unchanged lineup, Billy remains at 9, Paix bench…

Figured this would happen, Billy needs to improve massively to justify his position.
yeah really hope billy can improve and just simplify is game he was all over the shop last week making dumb rushed errors. still would rather see paix start with billy on bench but i guess the coaches have there reasons.

wonder if turps is still injured or if this really is them wanting to see what life is like without him.

Billy is a depth player at best, but his daddy has given him the top job in the NRL: being our permanent roving spine member. He'll be back at 6 next week when Turpin returns, then if Ezra ever gets a start he'll be 14, while Cory goes back to the Magpies.

We still don't have a stable fullback, five eighth or hooker. What the **** has Walters been doing the last year? It's an embarrassment.

Team is named

1. TMM
2. Oates
3. Staggs
4. Hogsworth
5. Cobbo
6. Gamble
7. Reynolds
8. Jensen
9. Walters
10. Haas
11. Capewell
12. Riki
13. Hetherington

14. Paix
15. Kennedy
16. Flegler
17. Palasia

18. Lee

Let’s not go off too early. Maybe the old fella actually will drop William when Turpin is back. I agree though, worrying signs

Riki has not become the player they thought would replace Sua , neither has TC Robati ...

well im assuming if ezra can improve and string some good games together he will be our 6 next year. I think he had a solid games on weekend?

We still 100% need a hooker for next year though. and have zero idea who is on the market. I'm still firmly in the boat of it cannot be turpin next year unless he has a massive change in form.

i will give kevie the benefit of the doubt with this nepotism talk. I Will be surprised if billy is still in the team next year barring injury and if he is then there needs to be questions asked on why didnt we go to market to fill that hooker position? but if thats the case its also on dd and Ikin not just kevie

From where I'm sitting it looks like he created a vacuum to suck his son into. Don't forget we had Tom Dearden, who's now flourishing under another coach and beside a lesser 7 than Reynolds.

Interesting that Graham is in the reserves for the Sharks, he'll likely come back in and that is a big inclusion for them.

Brenko Lee was pretty good in the Q Cup game, not sure who he would replace though. And as mentioned, I guess Turps must actually be injured.
