Staggs:

“That Blues jersey is on my mind. I have always wanted to play Origin for the Blues and if I have to keep performing better and keep improving to get the jersey, I will."
“Talakai has been playing well. I have been watching him and he is outstanding. He is a massive body and he uses it well. If the opportunity is there for him to run over the top of someone, he will do it. He backs himself. I saw some highlights of the Cronulla-Manly clash and it didn’t look like a happy night for the other centre Morgan Harper in the Manly team. I have played against Talakai before, so I know what I have to do, I can’t afford to go high (in defence). It will be a good test for myself and I will be doing everything I can to stop him and help the team out."
“I was pretty close to Origin before I did my knee. I am in a better headspace now and if I was to get the jersey, I will take it better with both hands. I saw ‘Freddie’ after the Roosters game at Suncorp. He said just keep playing well and back yourself. Whatever he needs me to do to play for NSW, I will do it.”

Walters:

“You have to look at the flipside, Talakai has to handle Kotoni. It’s one of the standout battles of the round. I can’t wait to see how Kotoni and Talakai go at it. Kotoni is still developing as a player but I believe he is ready for Origin. State of Origin is on the horizon for him and I have no doubt he will get there if he stays on the path and keeps playing well.”

It’s a tad ridiculous people are saying it’s nepotism.

Who else do we put there if Turpin is injured and Paix can’t play a solid 80, what are the other options?
I doubt the Broncos would have found themselves in this situation if it wasn't for Kev.

Well, i have proof that this play is a annual event -apparently we ran it at the same time in 2021 too...

Staggs isn’t playing well enough to be making this game about him and overplaying his hand trying to show off. He shouldn’t even be thinking about origin with the way we are going.

damn so i guess we dont see it till next year now when hes doing it for Redcliff...Sorry did it again THE phins

Take a look at how much work the left edge of the Sharks do off the ball. This is 1990s backline stuff, deep and fast running into space on a outnumbered edge.

I mean, there are 3 players out of shot when the clip begins, then they come flying in from the right hand side.

Talakai had a career game last week; cannot imagine he repeats it, but hes a damaging runner and now apparently has a nice offload in traffic too.

Turpin is injured. Also see:

hth
i'd argue paix isn't depth but yes definitely the rest . so why the drama changing up depth options, and if Turpin is still injured?
also highlights the mess our cap has been and how big a job it is getting this team on the winning side of things.

Well now you put it that way, lucky we signed the coach's son. He can cover hooker, at a pinch.

I’m interested though, who else would we put there?

Kobe Hetherington? I really can’t think of anyone else.

Compare Paix to Brandon Smith or Nicho Hynes, who were both bench players at the Storm. Compare him to any of the top 8 hookers. He's depth. It's just our spine, including the depth, is combination of mediocre and young. Reynolds excluded.

how do you figure that ?
who else would you have brought in for such a low cost ?

The NRL standard hooker we signed instead of the coach's son?

Turpin? He’s injured.

Paix? He doesn’t get 80 minutes.

Did we sign someone else?

wow 👌

I highly doubt anyone else would have signed Billy Walters, especially coming off a knee reco.

Take your pick really. However to pretend like Walters' hands were tied and he has no other choice but to pick his son is off the mark.
