I always wondered what would happen if a team took the field goal every time
Could win 80 or more til nil without the other team touching the ball if you've got a bloke that doesn't miss

I'll admit, it would be different and fun to watch once. But then the novelty would wear off pretty quickly I think. Not to mention all the talking heads losing their minds big time about it, to the point the rule gets tweaked mid season.

But I could see it used as a counter attack to swing the momentum. Or to get a breather like how they used to by kicking it dead into the corner, as long as they do it without drawing too much attention to it, like grinding down a close scoreline.

I'm surprised no one is talking about Flegler and his poor performance the other night. A much bigger effort is needed. I'm guessing because Flegler didn't get sin binned or sent off posters must have been satisfied. He was bog ordinary. I can't seeing us beat the Sharks over 80, maybe over 65 minutes but we aren't as well drilled.

I'm not satisfied with the performance, but I'm satisfied with the result. He needs a few error, penalty and suspension free games to take the target off his back. His talent is there, he was our best in the trials I thought, and he consistency did improve towards the end of the year. At his best he is a big addition for us, Kennedy and jensen are doing well but they don't have a season of that level in them.

Ps. Not getting into a Kennedy debate with you, he's decent value for money.

I know you love your stats:

Palasia 36 tackles, 3 ineffective - 90% effective
Flegler 26 tackles, 1 ineffective - 89.66%
Kennedy 7 tackles, 2 ineffective - 77.78%

This tells me that when Flegler and Palasia were on the field, we were doing far more defense. I thought Kennedy was great when on, I thought Palasia was great once again and Flegler was quiet, not poor by any means. He's got more in him but I reckon he's been told to pull his head in and play no nonsense football for now. I thought all three bench forwards did a really good job supporting Haas, really turned the momentum on the back of Paix having a breakout performance (hopefully).

There's hope

Game has immense impact on the rest of the season for us. Either way sharp tipping edge this game.

We don't get in the fight and win, the season starts to slip away. Questions pile up, pressure on coach and players. Origin is approaching and we will have players out. That period will be tough to get through.

We win, we prove have finals ability and gives breathing room. Pressure backs off and confidence gets carried.

It's no panthers game that's for certain. However, we've shown absolute dross for half a game or more against most teams this season. Sharks will put us away if we aren't at least competing for the 80.
Sharks aren`t consistent 80 min workers either .
Got to 32 / 0 by half time the other night ended 32 / 24 against Manly ...

Unfortunately that was probably the worst result for us tbh, along with how we won on Friday. They put the cue in the rack for half an hour after half time. But their learning from that will be don't slack off or the opposition can come back, and we literally just proved we can score a bunch of points quickly at the end of the game to boot. Secondary learning will be that they can put 32 points on another top 8 side in half a game of footy, they won't be scared against us at all.

I'd love to be confident, but I'm really not feeling good about Thurs. I hope I'm wrong.

Trevor Gillmeister:
"Talakai’s like a miniature version of Mal – they might need a baseball bat. Trying to tackle Mal and players like him was very difficult. You can’t always do it but if possible you are best to try and hit them side on. It’s tricky. If you go down too early on them they drop down and bump you so you have to go low and late.’’
“If you have your feet side-by-side a guy like Talakai will sit you on your arse. You need to have a boxing stance where you have one foot behind the other where you can absorb the impact and come at them again. There is only a split second in it. But you need to stand like that to tackle a nugget like him because he has got a bit of footwork as well so you need to absorb the contact.’’
“Years ago if you could not tackle one-on-one you would not get a game. Now the trick is to get in early and hold on until the other guys arrive. But a player like Talakai can hurt you. Players are not taught to make one-on-one tackles and he will find them out. I don’t have any sympathy for them. If you cannot tackle one-on-one then rugby league is not your game mate."
“Having said that it is no shame to be sat on your arse. I had that happen to me plenty of times but you have to react and think what you did wrong. Often I realised it was because I had to go lower and later so I would pretend to go high and drop down.’’
“Guys like him want you to tackle them high so they can bump you off. Going low and late is the best way. Get under the ball.’’

Gamble:

“It is going to be a good one to watch. It is going to be a good battle. They are both in form. Talakai killed it on Thursday and Tones has been Tones the last few weeks. He breaks tackles. It’s the battle of the beasts.’’

Say what you want about the Axe. His words may of been blunt, but they did cut deep there.

All joking aside. With everything being built off stopping second phase play and offloads, a defender would really need to back themselves to try it.

We had to deal with Talakai last year too. From memory he shamed Payne Haas' goal line defence by charging him and bumping him out of the way then, so there's nothing new here. What is different, is the sharkies are coached better and have injected some new talent - Craig has that team firing. That's the threat.

He's in for a big shock if he pulls that shit on Jake Turpin.

This week against the Sharks is shaping up as the real test to show where the Broncos are at.
The Sharks are playing great football at the moment and we showed against the Dogs that we can put points on when we click.
I know people will say " it's only the Dogs " and fair enough but I think we are showing enough to suggest a few green shoots are sprouting to hopefully give us hope that a footy team is slowly building.
The forwards are starting to hold their own and providing the backs opportunities to strut their stuff. And when Carrigan comes back i think we'd be nearly at full strength in the forwards although Piakura fit and firing would also add some starch to the defence. Line speed as has been often stated, needs to improve but I'm not sure how the coaching staff are wanting the players to approach this. Maybe they're slowing it down to provide a united front to confront the opposing team, I'm not sure but the better teams tend to use a speedier defensive line for better results.
Fullback seems to be our real problem i think , even though TMM went ok against the Dogs. To me he has 5/8 written all over him and I'm sure he and Reynolds would be a good combination and would give options on both sides of the field and put the opposition in two minds. Currently with Gamble (and Walters before him) the opposition knows that Reynolds is really the only go to man and so it's easy for them to concentrate on him and shut the play down. TMM seems to have more ball playing about him and a bit more speed and elusiveness which would make us much more dangerous .
Now for fullback, it's all been said before so it's either move Cobbo there and Periera(excuse the spelling if wrong)to the wing which in my mind would work ok.
Or give Herbie a shot there and move Cobbo to centre and Periera to wing, which also would work ok imo. Personally I'd lean towards the Cobbo at fullback option and that would give us attacking options all over the paddock.
I'd love to see Kev give this a run but I'm sure that he'll stick with the same combinations as last week unfortunately.
I'd also like to give Paix a chance to start and Turpin come on from the bench at the 25 minute mark till halfway through the 2nd half and then bring Paix on to bring us home. It's worthwhile giving it a shot for a few weeks to give it a chance to work and if it doesn't, swap them around.
I've probably got it all wrong but I'd like to see those small tweeks just to see if they'd improve us.

GO BRONCOS.

Payne has been bumped off or run over / around numerous times .
Then I hear best prop in the game and wonder are they watching when he defends or just the highlights of him running ?
