POST GAME Round 8 - Rabbitohs vs Broncos

If the ball or the ball carrying arm never touched the ground then I believe he was well within the rules to flick it out the back.

But I actually think a Souths player knocked it out and that's what allowed Moga to score.

The problem I had is that it never should have got to that point.

You couldn't say for sure Milford didn't get that ball down at some point and last week Gallen was awarded a very similar try where you couldn't see the ball touching the ground but you could see it was off the ground on the first attempt and they awarded it due to lack of evidence.
I believe there was more than insufficient evidence to overturn the decision. It is a bit like the cricket ruling of the ball hitting the stumps, there has to be more than half

I think it's obvious Korbin has seen that meme doing the rounds on social media.

We should of lost, but for once the refs gave us the call. Our first half was magnificent, we just need to learn how to be more consistent. Kodi will get there, Milford is the one that needs to step up not Kodi(Kodis second game at halfback milfords 100 and something)

Bennett said the same thing about having no evidence to overturn it which has happened all year. Then he basically said they got lucky that it was ruled not held.

I'm sure there's a bunch of excuses you could make for Farah, but once Walker had the ball, the option was always going to be run the ball.

Btw James Roberts is by far our best/ in form player to start this season. So happy he's playing the way he is.

Yep and he nearly pulled it off. He did have an open shot about 5 mins early with no pressure he would probably kick 7/10 times

Was I the only one who thought Roberts looked dangerous every time he touched the ball, Great Signs

He always looks dangerous, like a bull out of a gate, but so skillful and elusive at the same time. Sometimes he looks like the only guy who knows how to run the ball in a threatening manner out there. Huge wraps on him from me. I thought he was great last year as well.

Last 10 minutes of the first half

@Sproj The only reason Sam Thaiday is named on the starting side and then moved to the bench is because he only fits the number eleven jersey

I got tired of the channel 9 commentary. Someone tell them easter was last week and to leave their bunny costumes at home. If they had a set of red and green pompoms in that box, it wouldn't have surprised me at all.
Sure we got some good calls and a lucky try to sims. We were robbed at the death by Melbourne and if not for some average wing play and some good kicks, South's would not have been in it. Add to that the constant rubbish in the ruck, shoulder charges, and some soft broncos goal line defence and South's compete. But seriously they were crap and got what they deserved. On a side note, how many forward passes were missed. Its pretty evident you got lucky when the bunny fans themselves groan at their teams passes, and they're still missed.

A 78th-minute Anthony Milford field goal has lifted the Broncos to a dramatic 25-24 win over the Rabbitohs in an incredible match at ANZ Stadium that featured several crucial calls from the Bunker in a frenzied second half.

The Broncos had looked in control with an 18-8 half-time lead, but the introduction of Robbie Farah in the 46th minute turned the game on its head with the Bunnies piling on three unanswered tries to hit the lead.

Tautau Moga then scored with 10 minutes to go to level the scores, before Milford stepped up at the death to nail the match-winning one-pointer with his non-preferred foot to seal Brisbane's fifth win of the season.

With Jordan Kahu (groin) missing for the Broncos, South Sydney wasted little time targeting his replacement and were rewarded after just six minutes when David Mead spilled a high kick, allowing Cody Walker to pick up the crumbs and find Damien Cook to open the scoring.

The tactic almost worked a second time from the very next set when Walker appeared to score off another bomb, only for Mead's blushes to be spared by the Bunker after they ruled George Burgess had been in front of the kicker.

It didn't take long for the Broncos to hit back, and they did so in style with Oates diving over spectacularly in the left corner courtesy of a pinpoint pass from Darius Boyd.

Souths then had the chance to retake the lead when they opted to take a shot at goal from 30 metres out, and although he missed his first attempt, fill-in kicker Bryson Goodwin made no mistakes when he was gifted a second opportunity a minute later.

Brisbane looked certain to score a couple of sets later when speedster James Roberts scooped up a ball 20 metres out from his own line with open pastures ahead of him, but Rabbitohs fullback Alex Johnston showed blistering pace to reel him with a copybook tackle.

The visitors didn't have to wait long though with Oates flying through the air to score an almost identical try off another Boyd cut-out pass to punish Hymel Hunt who needlessly rushed in off his wing with a poor defensive read.

The Broncos then received a huge slice of luck when Milford inexplicably kicked into legs early in the tackle count, with the ball ricocheting to Korbin Sims who was outside the 10 metres when John Sutton touched the ball, enabling the big man to score the easiest try of his career.

Milford moved the Broncos a further two points in front when he was collected late and high by Sam Burgess, with the five-eighth taken off for an HIA - which he passed - moments after knocking over the penalty goal.

It took 45 minutes for veteran rake Farah to get on the field and his presence seemed to lift the Bunnies who narrowed the gap shortly after when Robert Jennings crashed over in the corner thanks to a bat back by Goodwin.

Farah's influence on the game went up a gear five minutes later when he played short out of dummy-half to send Angus Crichton crashing over, with Goodwin's simple conversion levelling the scores.

Michael Maguire's decision to hold back Farah was truly justified on the hour mark when the State of Origin hooker fired a shot ball to Siosifa Talakai for the centre to barge over with brute strength to give his side the lead.

Starved of the ball for most of the second stanza, the Broncos appeared to have levelled the scores through Andrew McCullough, only for his burrowing effort out of dummy-half to be turned down by the Bunker after he was deemed to have lost control of the ball.

Souths looked to have rubbed salt into the wound when Goodwin touched down following another error by Mead at the back, but this time the Bunker gave Broncos fans some good news when they found a penalty for a shove on James Roberts.

Stunningly, the Bunker was called upon for a third time in the space of six minutes, and this time the video officials flashed the green light for the Broncos after Milford was initially held up in goal, only for the ball to be stripped out, allowing Tautau Moga to scoop up the loose ball and score to make it 24-all.

Cody Walker had first crack in the inevitable field-goal shootout but sprayed his attempt wide from directly in front, and Broncos counterpart Milford followed suit from the next set with an equally-gettable kick.

He might have missed from directly in front, but Milford showed he lifts under pressure to somehow control a half-volleyed pass, step off his right boot and then snap the match-winning one-pointer with his left foot in the 78th minute to seal the dramatic win.

Broncos 25 (Corey Oates 2, Korbin Sims, Tautau Moga tries; Anthony Milford 4 goals; Anthony Milford 1 field goal) def. Rabbitohs 24 (Damien Cook, Robert Jennings, Angus Crichton, Siosifa Talakai tries; Bryson Goodwin 4 goals) at ANZ Stadium. Half-time: 18-8 Crowd: 11,083

**** you, Souths.

For some reason, that whole game, I just knew we were going to win. Probably because when we held the ball we were easily able to get in to attacking positions, and in their red zone they were shit defensively.

We probably used up every ounce of luck we had, but seriously, how many bullshit bad calls have we copped over the last couple of years, calls that have definitely cost us games. Well for once we got some calls - we didn't get all the calls, I reckon we copped just as many bad ones as they did, ours just came at the right times.

Now to my weekly Ref Gripes:

1) There was a point in the first half where Souths were all over us in the ruck and kept putting their hands on the ball or the arm carrying the ball when we went to play it. Finally, on the 4th tackle or something, the ref blows it. He says, pretty much word for word, "that's the second time in that set". So the ref knew it had been going on. WHY NOT PENALISE THEM THE FIRST TIME? Fucking discretionary penalties, where even if there's foul play, they put the whistle away unless it helps their Game Management directives.

2) Here's the biggy. Souths' momentum in that second half - if anyone is sick enough to watch that game again, look at the 10 Souths are given and look at what we get. You can't tell me there's not something intentional going on. There are a couple of sets in a row there where we are being pulled back literally 15 metres. Remember, the extra 5 metres actually means another 10 - going back and then coming up for the next play. Souths were making easy metres because we were being marched back to a distance where we were tackling the next runner at the same time as we were getting back to the ref. No wonder Fox aren't using the virtual 10 metre graphic, the NRL would have told them to pack it away and destroy it.

Can't wait for the celebrations next year when they declare another "Closest Competition Ever" record-breaker.

I don't know if it is a blessing in disguise or what but I can't post on ZT, maybe zt doesn't like my Bronco opinion

The Moga "try" should not have been a try.

The tackle was complete. Anyone with the brain output equivalent to a Volkswagen beetle could see that. If anyone who looked at that decision and thought "Well good! We never get the rub of the green! About bloody time!"

Congratulations! You are part of the fucking problem with Rugby League in this country.

FFS Milford threw the ball away because he was trying to sell the try!!! It wasn't play on. Only the most die hard, biased Broncos fan would say it was.

It was a no try. Any day of the week. I guess I'm not as biased and one-eyed as some of you. It just annoys me that howlers like that get chalked up to..."Oh well, at least it didn't decide the game..."

Only a fucking lemming would think like that. A lemming who has been weened on the Channel Nine Commentary, who has been weened on a 24 hour RL channel that offers nothing in the way of coverage of real issues that are plaguing this great game.

I can't fucking stand it. I know deep down that Rugby League will survive. Somewhere, somehow. The NRL can go up in flames for all I care...and something better can be built on its ashes.
