Round 9 - Penrith Panthers - Pre Game discussion

Kahu's history and attitude is the total opposite of what this woman alleges.
Besides, how does one exactly focus on rehab from a hamstring injury? It's not like it requires much effort, on the contrary!

Anyone got footage of this boyd interview?

Anyone who thinks Wayne won't pick Kahu in our top 17 when fit is silly, he'll be there.

It's like any injury . It requires painful rehab and physio and finding other ways to maintain your fitness.

apparently there was an interview on 7 news tonight with Boyd, and he said he could be back for the Panthers game ... good news if true, did anyone catch the news.

also someone saying on facebook (so take it with a grain of salt) that Bennett is not happy with Kahu, he may not get back in the side ... shit news if truw

Good news on Boyd, though I hope they give him a little extra time to be sure he's 100%.

I call bullshit on anything on Facebook.

If you've got the seven app, the news is on there for another 10 hours or so. Basically says the Doctor has given him the ok as long as he feels confident. Mentions a niggling hamstring injury as well.

Me m8 Dobbo last night said that Boyd has been training at full speed for 6 weeks, taking full contact for 2 weeks, and is a chance to return for the Panthers game, but is more likely aiming for a return in Round 10 or 11.

One part of me is thrilled with the Boyd early return, the other worries he will be rushed back into the Origin side.

Is an achillies injury something you are significantly more likely to reinjure if you've done it once?

Is there secondary issues with pulling hammies and calves because your muscles have deteriorated?

Lol, ask Hodges :P

Well Hodges came back from the same injury, more than a year out of the game and his first game back he scored the winning try in the dying minutes slicing through the defence (Gold Coast or Newcastle, can't remember). He definitely didn't seem affected by it.

But later in the year he did it again. Was it the same one?

Hodgo's had more injuries than the rest of the NRL combined but as far as I recall he's only done his achilles twice. The right in 2010 and the left in 2013.

When he came back in 2011 after the first one he had a few other injury issues, mostly hamstrings or maybe his back, I don't quite recall. But these were more related to him being Justin Hodges than the snapped achilles.

FWIW it was against the gold coast at skilled. I was there, and it was fucking amazing.

Revised team for the Panthers game ... Assuming Kahu and Boyd return.

1. Boyd
2. Maranta
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Kahu
6. Milford
7. Hunt
8. Blair
9. McCullough
10. McGuire
11. Thaiday
12. Gillett
13. Parker

14. Nikorima
15. Wallace
16. Oates
17. Dodds/Garbutt.

I would also be ok with Oates retaining his wing place instead of Maranta.

Surely Reed can't survive now ... :whoo:

I rate Kahu as a much better player than Copley after his FB performances.

Looks good not too sure about the number 17 though, thought Dodds was injured and garbutts time in the first grade team has been strange.

we are lacking that one more seasoned prop. I don't think it would happen, but would you put oates in the 11 and have Sam come off the bench again? Would feel more balanced that way i think.

The Kahu thing sounds like he might have had a night on the grog (as plenty of us do regularly, not to mention young fellas) , which is known to impede injury recovery.

This is what i'm thinking also.

WB would be pretty strict about players sticking to their rehab schedules, so you'd have to expect the players to be punished if they do the wrong thing.

Boydy won't be back, I'm certain about that judging by all reports. I'd would rather have Maranta at fullback and Oates in the centres ! I know most would disagree but he is still mobile enough, certainly quick enough and quite possibly the quickest in the team. He has terrific front on defence, steady hands and fierce determination. Hopefully Garbo gets another shot and I thought he may have been injured in his last couple of games.
