Hook may be an affable, loyal, avuncular bloke you would love to buy a beer and introduce to your in-laws, school principal and local snake charmer but to date, he has shown zero adaptability and flexibility when it comes to creating creative game plans based on solid and consistent structures.
He has shown glimpses, yes, like the forwards passing game, but can't seem to entrench that into a consistent, recurring game plan.
His team selections have been baffling and this side has again lapsed into being the most predictable attack in the competition, especially with the altogether baffling selection of Hoffman at 5/8 which has literally crippled our attack, and his inability to use Barba. Aside from the obvious "personal" issues Barba must be having, Hook has made him into a sitting duck.
The argument that Hoffman was the 5/8 we had to have doesn't wash with me. I have made that point clear in my posts along with most others here. We ought to have been blooding our juniors from the outset, and persisting with them, or better still, playing him at 5/8 where he would have had far less pressure on him than he has had.
I honestly don't believe Hook has it in him atm to take this team to the finals and believe that he, like many, thinks the Milford wet dream will solve all our issues.
I predicted that we will start losing games regularly with Hoffman at 5/8 after other teams start hitting their straps, and I stick with that prediction.
For mine, the next few games will show whether Hook (and Hoffman) do have what it takes to take this talented side to where it should be: the top of the ladder. I honestly don't believe we should have lost any matches this year so far and the reason we have is ... you CAN'T WIN AT THIS LEVEL WITH 1 HALF.
If I am made to eat my words, fine, I have no problem with that at all, but based on what I have seen for a few years, I can't see it. Still, miracles do happen. I'm waiting ...
