Sack Griffin/New Coach Discussion

Go and get Kevin Walters as coach and spend whatever it takes to get Bennett back as Director of Coaching - Retention and Recruitment so he is there to guide Kevie and get the ball rolling again - and get rid of Kearney now as well
Another idea is Neil Henry with Bennett at the helm as well
Either way get Bennett and somebody - anybody but HOOK - you and I could do a better job than this clown

What has Kevvie Walters done in his coaching career that makes him an automatic choice to replace hook?

what makes you think Neil Henry will be able to do much better for us, considering he failed miserably at the Cowboys with arguably a far superior team to ours?

If hook gets sacked mid season, it is damn near certain that Kearney will be the one to take over. maybe thats why he doesn't want to go to the Warriors. maybe he senses hook is hanging by a thread and he wants to be in prime position he get the job.

It is the same with our five-eight option. They might not be the best option but they are better than our current option.

the difference is we can go looking for the best option and if that happens to be Walters or Henry, then fine. buts lets not stop looking just because those guys might be available.

5/8 is a different story, we can only play people at 5/8 (for this season) that we have on the books.

I think even Hook would be ok if we got Bennett here. He needs to be involved somehow. Even if he is main coach for a few years with Walters under him, learning.

PS. I hate this place. I have a 1500 word assignment that I could have finished in maybe 2 hours but I've done 500 words because I keep coming to BHQ to procrastinate.

We can't bring Bennett back as head coach ... it would be a step backwards and mean any coach that follows him would once again be compared to Bennett.

I would be ok with Bennett coming on as a coaching director or a something like that, just not head coach

What about the Walker Brothers? These guys seem like geniuses when it comes to game plans.

How are the Knights going ?

you know what though. i don't want hook sacked i wan't him demoted to an assistant coach. when he is focusing on defence our d is actually great it also won't erode our aura/rock the boat/annoy the players or anything like that.

tallis said it on triple m yesterday basically exactly what i've been saying on here. barba is not the problem its the players and structure in front of him that is. (well lack thereof). and not having a decent 6. we have no gameplan or attacking structure the one out stuff is going to fool no one

What have we got to lose by sacking Hook?

I dont see us making the 8 so if we're not making the 8, we're making up numbers, which is the perfect position to try something different.

The concept of let's not change we could go even worse, doesn't really matter if we're not challenging or even looking like we're building to something.

all we are ever going to get from griffin is mediocre.

Hook has a lot of good facets, he just needs to understand the need to adapt in the modern game and that flair is not a dirty word. I agree we must change but I'm with Foordy in just not being sure Walters is the right man just because he's Kevin Walters. He might be but I dot want to ignore other options.

Ive been a big advocate for Hook and defended him a lot but he needs to give us something in return and that blatantly obvious first step would be to stand up to the Hoff and tell him he's a winger or out the club door and play someone who can at least pass at 5/8th. For mine, both Straser and Duncan P have shown enough in Qld Chp to fit the bill and I've watched all their games.

Can you expand upon those good facets?

He hasn't really improved any players since he's been coach
Can't say he gets us into good attacking structures
Can't say he's a good man manager or gets the most out of our players
Can't say he's a brilliant tactician of any sort
Doesn't use his bench properly
Doesn't give off any sort of vibe that would attract another quality player to come play under his coaching.

The fact is, Hook has only ever looked quality when Lockyer was running the show.

We bombed in 2012 after a promising start.
We were deadset horrible last year
We have shown little signs of improvement as a squad this year.

I'd love to hear what you see in him, cause proof is in the pudding, and it's getting ever closer to being rotten.

I have said in the past that we should keep griffin until someone better is available... I think it is past that now.

I'm sure he has the support of the players etc. and that's great. The fact is he can't use a bench anywhere close to properly, like still and he has had the same game plan his whole career. I'm sure he is a great guy but he simply doesn't have the skills. I have no issue with him stepping back down to assistant coach specializing on defense because I believe he is good at that. But a decision has to be made and soon. We have a team that is capable of far better than this, and if Milford does end up coming next year we have a team that could/should be pushing the top 4 for a fair few years to come. TBH I think our next genuine premiership window is opening next season and will close in around 2018. If we have griffin still at the helm we will miss that opportunity.

IMHO I think the club needs to find out if Bennett will come back as a director of coaching with Kevvie as head coach (I would not be on board with kevvie alone as I think he has to learn from bennett). If that is the I would give Griffin the arse and have walters take over straight away.

If they can't get bennett/walters they need to look at Neil Henry IMO. I know people will say he failed at the cowboys but look how green is going with them, henry had them playing far better than this. It really shouldnt be that hard to get a good coach, because anyone with half a brain would be looking at this side licking their lips. Their is a lot of talent here that is getting greatly under-utilised

The good facets:

He got rid of deadwood in Wallace and Norman.

He has Hunt, Macca, Gillett and Thaiday flying.

He has to take some credit or even a lot of credit for Maranta improving out of sight and showing faith in him.

He he appears to have the support of his players and they want to play for him.

There are a lot of good points but even I can see these are outweighed by the negatives which mainly revolve around an under 12s game plan. If he can get his team to free up and realize he has made a massive mistake with Hoffman, I believe most of his negatives would be addressed. It is a matter of getting I'm to realize that and bite the bullet.
