Sack Griffin/New Coach Discussion

Re: Sack Griffin

TLL was on track to being one of the best forwards in the game 3 or 4 years back. No idea what happened to him.

Re: Sack Griffin

The issue with our forwards is that they're running one out.

Bingo. People wonder why Hannant only managed 89 metres in 14 hit ups. Defence looks, there's Hannant just off the ruck. OK boys, 3 of us rush up, hit him, there's no risk of him passing, so we can sit him on his backside almost at the advantage line.

Our ruck play is abysmal.

And it's so easy to fix too. Sure, have Hannant one off, but have Parker or Thaiday just off his shoulder. Hannant gets the ball, sees the defence rushing him, short ball to Parker or Thaiday running alongside and suddenly the defence is slightly off their balance and not as able to dominate the tackle.

It's just another sign of the non-existent attacking nous in our game plan.

We did this in two games late last year and looked really good early on in them. It's a good idea. But Hook doesn't like good ideas.

Re: Sack Griffin

the nail on the head has been hit.

Re: Sack Griffin

We definitley don't need anymore forwards, especially forwards bought for the bench. We need a half and another specialist centre.

As said previously by others,, i think our forwards are doing fine, getting us the field position, it's the final punch inside the 20 that's killing us

Re: Sack Griffin

No, the forwards are not doing "fine"!

Our ruck speed is horrible, which allows the opposition to get set and be ready for the next tackle and put pressure onto our halves/playmakers, as well as anyone running at the line.
Coxy has a point regarding the ease with which our forwards get dominated in a tackle, which brings a slow play the ball, which again allows the defence to be ready to smash the one out hit-up guy and bend him backwards.

Same goes for our defence. There is no doubt they are working hard and committed to each other, but we get nowhere near the same dominance in the tackles, and I think we're pretty close to the team that looses more meters per tackle on average. I hate to think what our performances and scores would be like without our scrambling defence and the boys putting out!

This doesn't entirely excuse the backs, but puts things into perspective, which is the reason why I don't embark on this blame Wallace or Prince or Norman or Hook or Reed or any combination of those. Once we get the forwards problem fixed, we can focus on the backs!

I'm increasingly liking the idea of Wallace at hooker, as his service from there has been better than what McCullough can offer, and he might get us to roll on better in terms of ruck speed.

I know it's not going to happen, and we would need time for this to gel, but I'd like to experiment a bit and move Parker to prop, Macca to lock, Wallace to hooker and Hunt to the halves. Would give us an extra play-making option (with Macca doing the same as Glenn Stewart does at Manly) and hopefully with some time, Hunt can show the goods and creativity we so desperately need.

In the backs, if Dugan is indeed recruited, I would move Reed out of the centres for Norman, or leave Corey out all together and put Hoffman there with Kemp/Berryman on the wing.

Re: Sack Griffin

So many good ideas Porthoz, none of them ever going to see the light of day because of Griffin. Man I hate his fat face sometimes.

Re: Sack Griffin

Hate the idea of Macca at lock, hooker or the halves for him.

Re: Sack Griffin

Macca at lock is a good idea. Parker ain't getting any younger and he doesn't have any ball playing skills. Macca there could provide something more. Parker is basically a prop anyway.

Re: Sack Griffin

A lot of teams play a lock as an extra tight forward, makes it easier on the props. Parker at lock just means someone else would have to pick up his slack.

Sack Griffin

Too much desperation around here. Shows how badly we are going

Re: Sack Griffin

mccullough at lock.....lol.

I've never had such little faith in a Broncos team. I've always truly believed if we play our best we can beat anyone. This week I think we're going to be destroyed even if we play our best, that's not exactly filling me with hope.

Leave him alone... He's bulking brah

Re: Sack Griffin

That one made me giggle. He should own up and say, yeah our players played like shit and it's mostly my fault.

Re: Sack Griffin

McCullough at hooker is a terrible idea IMO. If we decided to go with Wallace at Hooker we would get rid of McCullough IMO. McCullough has all the tools to be a good hooker he just hasn't taken the next step. His service out of dummy half needs to improve but he isn't that bad.
