NEWS Seibold: leave Darius alone

On the comparison, its a one off.

It's not actually.

Keary hardly runs the ball. Most games you can count the amount of times he ran the ball on one hand.

Those runs are usually more effective, though. Keary picks his moments on when he runs.

However, the shit about Boyd has been about his lack of runs and metres and being slammed for that reason while other 5/8's who don't run the ball are left alone despite running the ball and making metres being a very important part of a 5/8's role.

It is a tad hypocritical.

Pretty simple really, Darius is copping the flak for a ‘fail’ at 6 while the responsibility lies with the coach for putting him there. Clearly Seibs didn’t see that coming so feels a need to defend his player. It’s just the way he’s gone about it that seems a tad amateurish to me. Perhaps if he was more upfront with the reasoning behind some of his selection decisions would he helpful and take some of the speculation, if not mystery, out of those selections or non selections as it were.

This is a good point, who is he really defending? Boyd or himself?

Ennis made commentary last night about how seibold would be disappointed with how he’s handled the pressure, from preseason until now. I saw it last year and how he looked in the coaches box after our first few losses, and told you all I was not impressed by him, the cracks are really starting to show.

Seibs isn't handling the pressure well at all imo.
Steep learning curve.

I'm sure he is regretting his Keary comments already, but this year was always going to be a massive learning experience for him.

Baptism of fire if you will.

Personally i am.looking forward to seeing how.next year pans.out for us... with a fully fit roster of Seibs choice.

Only then will we get a real idea of who he really is as a coach.

Keary looks like he wants to win, and tries like he wants to win. Can't say that for the old useless captain of the Broncos.

Perhaps, yes I say perhaps Boyd contributes an intangible. Every time I've mentioned stats I always rea a few responses telling me the stats mean nothing, it's the things that stats don't show. I say fair enough but maybe, just maybe Boyd does something for the team that makes them better.

I'm loving this from Seibold actually. Why? Well he's using the masters tactics, namely building a seige mentality within the team. He's making the world the enemy, it's the Broncos against the media, the fickle fan, the other clubs, the ex players.

From what I can tell the team supports DB and this stuff solidifies the resolve. A lot of us, myself included have been kicking him and it's probably time we stopped. Time for kicking is when the seasons done.
Thankyou for saving me the time to write pretty much the same thing. Siebs has taken a leaf out of WB's book. Always defend your players. Drive the team closer together. Build confidence in the targeted player to help him step up his game.

Also this isn't about Keary. This is about Siebs trying to take the negative spotlight away from Boyd. Exactly what Wayne would've done. Make some comment that makes him the Media's target to get the media off the players back. Wish he did more stuff like Wayne... Especially pre 2015 Wayne

If Boyd is guiding the team around he must then take the credit for that clusterfuck omnishambles of an excuse for a game we all had to suffer through last week in Townsville.

If he's guiding the team around it's pretty reminiscent of the story about the blind leading the blind.

I praised Seibs for taking time to talk to the media at the beginning of the season. I was wrong he needs to stfu and get the team (our spine) sorted and stop giving ammunition to the media and our opposition.

NRL 2019 | Brisbane Broncos coach Anthony Seibold sparks interstate rivalry

Sydney Roosters star Cooper Cronk has weighed in to defend his teammate Luke Keary after Brisbane Broncos coach Anthony Seibold took a shot at the five-eighth. Seibold fronted the media and defended his five-eighth Darius Boyd after continued criticism, which sparked up after a one run game against the North Queensland Cowboys. In a bizarre decision, Seibold decided to compare Boyd to incumbent Australian no. 6 and defending Clive Churchill Medallist Keary. “Darius for whatever reason seems to be an easy target,” Seibold said. “I had a look through the competition last weekend, there is an Australian No. 6 (Keary) playing for a team in Sydney who only made four metres last week and missed five tackles and not one thing was said in the media about that.

Michael Ennis doesn’t think Anthony Seibold will be happy with that one.

Michael Ennis doesn’t think Anthony Seibold will be happy with that one.

Keary fired back at Seibold after he was drawn into a feud without even stepping onto the field against the Broncos. “Thanks for reviewing my game,” Keary said in reply. “I don’t really care to be honest. It’s a little bit odd. I don’t know him, I’ve never spoke to him. “I don’t care what he says. I don’t care what he thinks.” Cronk also defended his teammate, asking Fox Sports’ Thursday Night League panel “do we play the Broncos again?” The comments clearly sparked some feeling in the Roosters’ camp. Cronk had worked with Seibold previously when they were both at the Storm but hit back hard. “Not really sure what he’s doing there,” Cronk said. “Obviously he’s protecting his player and he was quick to cotton on to Darius being the manager of the team and Milford takes the line on, but Luke’s the complete opposite. “If we want to get petty about these things, we could basically compare over the last six weeks in a thousand different stats where Luke, the Australian five-eighth would miles in front. I just think it’s a little disrespectful of Luke and he’s a little bit of an angry ant today Luke.”

Luke Keary is doing just fine.

Luke Keary is doing just fine.

In terms of stats, the Fox Sports Lab broke down the pair’s records over the past six games. Boyd has averaged 3.8 runs per game for 43m, while Keary averages 2.7 runs for 30 metres.
Outside of that, Keary dominates in try assists (10 to 2), secondary try assists (7 to 1), linebreak assists (11 to 1), kick metres per game (227m to 14m) and forced dropouts (4 to 1).
Michael Ennis said the comments were “interesting”, especially Seibold’s comments about Boyd being an organised when the experienced campaigner should be taking the line on.

“I thought to bring Luke Keary into it, when Anthony Seibold looks back at the end of the year and assesses the season, I think he will he will be disappointed with how he’s handled the pressure,” Ennis said. “I really think in a number of the press conferences throughout the season and throughout the off-season, boy he’d be disappointed with himself and how he’s let the pressure get to him. “To bring Luke Keary into it, who’s a terrific little player and had nothing to do with the situation, was just distasteful, it was unnecessary.”

Ennis needs to leave Darius alone and so does Cronk...and Keary has no right to be angry, it’ll hurt Darius’s feelings...and state mean nothing because Darius is just there to let Milford do his role for him.

It was pretty obvious the point seibold was trying to make but he just did it in such an amateurish way. Keary has been on fire all year as well, so if he has a game where he runs 4m it's an anomaly, unfortunately its the norm for Boyd to turn in a shocker.

Yes, I'm certain this is Seibold emulating Bennett: being the sacrificial anode to take the spotlight off the team. But like his namesake Mundine trying to be Ali, it's a hamfisted clown show that only serves to make him look like a rank amateur in comparison.

Bennett would never sprout gratuitious garbage like this about an opposition player.

Yeah I can see what Seibs is trying to do here, but he comes off looking like a bit of an idiot. Rattled.

This is what happens when you try and defend the indefencable. It's the old"look over there" tactic. Problem for ol' Siebs - he's only succeeded at inspiring the media and others looking even more closely at Darius' performance (or lack there of).

It's getting very, very embarrassing for the club and for the coach.

What I would give to listen to the weekly phone call between Boyd and Bennett!

He's actually brought even more attention on himself in addition to Boyd.

It's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pay's off for em.

Yeah I think he needs to re-do sophomore year at Harvard after this Clanger.

If Seibs is trying to make a siege mentality its at least working on me. Our boys can't catch a break. The only time it feels a positive write up is out there is when their speculating on poaching.

Melbourne flog us and we get torn to bits for it. Other clubs are getting a pass on the criticism all based on this prediction of top four. No body has justified a top four finish for the Broncos. Our spine was a mess and is a mess. No team is top four with the spine we finished last year with and the one currently being run out. Its pure garbage and its the main reason why i am giving Seibs 3 yrs to change it due to contracts. If the media were honest they wouldn't have even said this with a straight face. Has any other team who moved players on got the criticism over it also. Like how dare we move on guys like Niko. From what i can see the only guys playing regular grade is Moose and Jet all the others are predictably injured or not playing the position they moved to play. In saying that Jet isn't setting the game on fire and Moose is sitting on the sidelines for being a fool.

Blind Freddie can see whats going on. The game is still NSW orientated. The media love bashing the Broncos and if anything Wayne leaving has made that worse because Seibs is too open with the media. He needs to start toying with them and say nothing.

Get behind the team lads because nobody else will. Mark my words in 2-3yrs this team can be owning this comp and the media are terrified. **** em.

So here's an alternate theory which is actual genius if it's Seibold's real plan.

He wants to get rid of Darius but, for whatever reason can't or doesn't want to look like it's coming from him. He makes a ridiculous statement comparing him to a leading player in his position that in reality draws attention to how hopeless he is, and brings in a lynch mob of other fans.

Result is Darius is now up to his scrotum in widespread ridicule with intense media scrutiny. His shit form is the leading story going into the round. His position looks untenable. But Seibold looks like he's sticking up for his player.

If Boyd retires in the next few weeks, I'm going to credit it to Seibold's gamemanship. Otherwise, Seibold is a bozo.
