SOO Teams 2010

With Prince and Lockyer not available, QLD still have an awesome squad.

Firstly, you've got the Melbourne magic trio. Slater - Cronk - Smith. Throw in Thurston at 5/8 and you've got yourself a ridiculously awesome 1, 6, 7 and 9.

The only concern for the QLD squad would be the forward pack if Price and Civo retire, which I think they will. However, with the outstanding form of Thaiday and Myles at the moment, the back row looks in good shape. Hannant will take up one of the prop positions, so you're sweet there.

This is what I'd pick for QLD for week 1, taking into considering that Price and Civo retire.

1. Slater
2. Tuqiri
3. Tonga
4. Inglis
5. Boyd
6. Thurston
7. Cronk
8. Hannant
9. Smith
10. Scott
11. Thaiday
12. Myles
13. Luck (A dead set MUST)

14. Shillington
15. Harrison
16. Stagg
17. Bolton

Seriously, even without Price and Civoniceva, that's still a damn good forward pack. Defensively it would be awesome too, Stagg, Harrison, Luck and Bolton are all quality defensive players.

NSW will find it tough to win again this year.

Have civo or price even hinting at retiring? I like that team tho, and my only change (apart from civo and price) would be folau over boyd (if fit). if civo and price play which i expect them to, i would drop stagg and either shillington or bolton

i thought they changed the initial diagnosis and that he will only be out 3 - 5 weeks

Bolton really seems like one of those players who would grow 100 feet taller in origin and and tackle until he died for the honour to play for Qld. I do hope he gets picked - though I worry your bench may be a touch light Rocky, but as Qlder mentioned, it really comes down to Civi and Petero, then Hannant and Shillington give us weight on the bench and impact

I'd think about using Tuqiri as our bench utility.. You just have to have him there he is awesome.

Great team Rocky,

I'm a little surprised we can still put together such a strong looking side without players like Lockyer, Hunt, Hodges, Folau, Tate, Civo, Petro, Johnson, Prince et al because of injuries, missing the cut, retirement, moving on etc

shows how much depth QLD has nowadays (i remember the days when we were so desperate for a halfback shaun berrigan got a start there in an entire origin series, and josh hannay was our first picked at centre)

I think Tonga has almost all but cemented his centre spot, he has something like 10 line breaks in 4 games.

Scott Bolton must be close to forcing his way into the team too and both seem to be improving each week.

I'd honestly give him a crack at right centre again with Tate on the right wing. I dont buy into this left/right garbage - he played there last year and he was fine.

that is true, but tonga is killing it right now with that left step of his, wouldnt be as effective on the other side of the field

1. Slater
2. Tuqiri
3. Tonga
4. Inglis
5. Folau

That's what dreams are made of.

As I said, I don't believe in left/right but you DO put the better player in the preferred position of course!!!

I mean you wouldn't put Tonga over Inglis for their preferred but going by form definitely!!!

The thing is, GI is a monster with JT and Locky feeding him quality ball. Destroyer of NSW.

1. Slater
2. Boyd
3. Inglis
4. Tonga
5. Falou
6. Thurston
7. Prince
8. Hannant
9. Smith
10. Civoneciva
11. Thaiday
12. Harrison
13. Parker
14. Tate
15. Shillington
16. Myles
17. Scott

Anyone who thinks we should pick Prince over Cronk hasn't watched either of them play over the last season and a bit, Cronk's form over that period has been far superior to Prince's and Prince has been the first to admit he hasn't been his best during this period.

What pisses me off more is people putting one of them on the bench. That rarely works and only really does come in handy when a key player gets injured.

I would pick Cronk over Prince because:

a) I like Cronk more, and
b) I would like to see Melbourne without Cronk, Smith, Inglis and Slater at Origin time.

Even better would be to have the 5th series in a row wrapped up at 2-0 and in the last 10 minutes all four get season ending injuries.

The Biggest question for QLD this year is who is going to take the utility role this year? The last few seasons we've been blessed with Slater/Hunt as our utility player and Berrigan before them. Nobody stands out to me, so it will be interesting who they choose.

If Cronk is halfback I can't see there being any real utility player available for selection. The selectors may choose 4 forwards on the bench or chuck on a back who can cover most positions and run around in the backrow.
