State Of Origin - General Discussion

Big test for Hunt this week going up against the Storm.

A good performance will pretty much guarantee him the 7 jersey with the way Kevvie is talking.

He feels Hunt is ready for it.

I said earlier in the year don’t rule out Hunt for the 7 jersey. He is the front runner at the moment.

Munster & Morgan would still be the front runners, being the incumbents. I don't think Hunt is playing THAT much better than Morgan right now to justify replacing him.

Morgan - 0 tries, 6 try assists, 6 line-break assists, 2 forced drop-outs
Hunt - 3 tries, 7 try assists, 6 line-break assists, 2 forced drop-outs

Pretty even, all things considered. Morgan is playing the worst footy of his last few years and he's still neck and neck with Hunt statistically, I think we give him first shot, he's already shown what he can do as the primary play maker, for Queensland & the Cowboys.

Hunt as the bench utility ready to come on if Morgan stinks it up.

I'd prefer Morgan too. Hunt needs his forwards firing to dominate, and QLD's forward pack is pretty poor in comparisson with NSW's potential one. Hunt plays very direct, and it's no wonder he's looking good again behind the Dragons insane forward pack. Morgan has shown more organisational skills than Hunt last year, though he hasn't been allowed to do that this year. Both are really strong runners. I'm also really worried about Hunt's inconsistency, it's not even game to game, it's set to set sometimes.

So did Morgan, though.

When the forwards weren't laying the platform, Morgan was pretty much useless. He came up with a nice play every now and then due to his running game, but it wasn't until the finals and the forward pack started standing up that we saw the best of Morgan.

Even this year when the forwards were actually laying a platform, Morgan was still underwhelming until he started playing a fullback role.

I would prefer Morgan myself, but I don't see him being picked over Hunt. Morgan is the incumbent but then again he hasn't played a whole game in the halves for QLD so I'm not sure the loyalty card will be played for him for a half position.

When you have Smith in the side and even Slater, you don't really need to worry about organisation from the halves. It's Smith that does it for Melbourne.

Jennings has committed to Tonga over the Blues.

I don't think he was close to being selected, anyway. But more and more players are committing to Tonga over the Blues, it's great to see.

Roots are in flux, it seems. This is what I meant be misplaced, almost patriotic loyalty in brands that are only loyal to their bottom line, rather than historic community culture.

That's a single side of the story, which Lion Nathan has stated is simply not in their plans. As for employing contracted workers, sure, strike over that, but I hope they realise (Unionists usually don't see the big picture) that by doing that, it's just going to piss the company off, and push them to move away from a unionised workforce.

I'm glad you at least acknowledged that unionists see the big picture some of the time ! I actually think they see it most of the time but cowering in fear or worrying about how pissed off a company gets shouldn't be an issue. The truth is, if a company and it's workforce work together, everyone benefits. When an employer holds all the power, the workers rights are destroyed. When a union holds all the power the company is driven into the ground.

There is no organisation on earth that will protect a workers rights other than a band of workers, barganing collectively. That band of workers must work WITH the company and it(the company) should deal with the workers in good faith.

No doubt. And I'm sure there is at least one or two unions in Australia who operate like that and do the right thing by all. Unfortunately, assholes like the CFMEU have caused what I believe is the start of the end of unions.

Exactly. Unions have become almost the same as political parties, with most of their leaders saying one thing, but doing another entirely. I've been witness to quite a few disputes in the transport / logistics world, and it isn't pretty!

I don't see why would play Cooper, he's really not good without Thurston, which we'll discover in Game 1 if we decide to play him.

I guess we're going with the whole loyalty thing again, I assume McGuire & Glasby will race the clock and be fit, which means this'll be our pack for G1.

8. Scott
9. Smith
10. Napa
11. Cooper
12. Papalii
13. McGuire

14. Hunt/Ponga
15. Wallace
16. Glasby
17. Hess

Yuck.

That pack is SHOCKING. Let's see, even if NSW pick their overrated plodder incumbents their pack is still miles better:

Woods > Scott
Smith>>>> Peats/ Cook/ whoever
Klemmer >>>>> Napa
Cordner > Cooper (battle of the out of form, old plodders who shouldn't be picked)
Jackson = Papa (both are in horrid form)
Jurbo = McGuire
Frizzel > Wallace
RCG > Glasby
Hess > Graham

If they pick in form blokes like Crichton, Matterson, PV, JDB, etc we're in trouble.

Stopped reading there... :notsureifserious:

Form often goes out the door in the Origin arena. The NSW pack has been far superior to ours on paper for many years now, and yet, we still spank them regularly on the paddock.

2015 Game 3 anyone?

Yep heaps scared of woods backing into the opposition lol

I think Oates bombing several tries tonight will hurt his chances.

It depends on how the other contenders respond.

1. Slater
2. Holmes
3. Inglis
4. Chambers
5. Gagai

Likely the backline chosen imo. Holmes pips out Oates on incumbency. Not saying it's the correct call - just what will probably happen.

Cotric is firming as an option for the other NSW wing spot.

The one thing Cotric has over Addo-Carr is that he is a stronger returner of the ball, he breaks a lot more tackles than Addo-Carr. He can still score tries and has plenty of speed.

Addo-Carr has 27 tackle breaks for the season.
Cotric has 47 tackle breaks.

Addo-Carr has him beat on tries, but there are whispers NSW are looking for someone that can also provide that option of being able to return the ball strongly.
