Tesi Niu

I thought about him as a stocky winger, but i dont think he has the strength or physicality of say a To'o to make a go of it. And you are right about his defence at center, i dont think he will get to grips with that.

If i were him, before i thought about switching positions i'd try to improve as a fullback in Q Cup. If he cant, then i think thats about it for him as an NRL player.
I was trying to find a positive angle. I really don’t see him as an NRL fullback. We can all raise this post from the dead in 6 years time when he’s had a long successful career as a fullback and laugh at me but I’ve never been as positive that a player doesn’t have it.

They will be laughing at me as well! I can recall people on here saying how much of a gun he was going to be 3 or 4 years ago and i was always saying i didnt think he would be., I've never seen any kind of superstar in him.

Actually fans on here didn't understand why the Broncos or the CM rapped him so highly and have basically made the same comments since Day 1. It's only ever been a minority that have really rated him on here.

Got to love the search function.

This is the only post that's referred to him as any kind of stupid c from IBM in reference to the offside penalty against the Roosters in Round 5.

Mind you if you go through Locky24's post history there's a lot of vitriol there. Of course it's going to rub posters the wrong way.

Not to play moderator but if a poster really bothers you that much, why not put them on ignore? It's just like any other social media platform and if you don't like their content just ignore them.
I hate Tesi with a passion 🤷‍♂️

maybe I just have better morals, and feel we should back our young players instead of giving them shit.

I really think he needs to be directed into a simpler position and if he works really hard to he could still carve out a career as a cheap option - imo winger or centre. I would say wing but his height and fear of the high ball will make that difficult. Centre has to worry about defensive reads and setting up outside men.

I think he could keep practicing taking bombs and continue to work on his leg drive and he could become a serviceable stocky winger in 2 or 3 years.

Otherwise, send him to super league and he can be the next Bevan French
How about hooker? Maybe @McHunt wants him to replace BillyW...?

I’m not sure how serious this suggestion is but his service from dummy half is laughable. He kept getting in there to help out and his passing made Turpin look like Cam Smith
Serious in that he's on our books for another year, has more brute strength, balls skills and slipperiness than Walters and Paix. If you try to hide him on the wing, he'll be peppered with high balls. We all know how that will go.

His defensive issues seem to be more about not being in the right place at the right time. You don't need to think much about defence at hooker. Seems to be more about fitness and willingness to put your body in front of bigger dudes. All our hookers have been reasonable defenders, or at least they turn out big numbers.

I have no idea whether Tesi would be good there or not, but the other two are barely bog average, and most of us are satisfied with them.

The other option is to have him run around for the year at Souths. Waste of money and talent, but that's the most probable outcome.

Oh you are being serious? Good god. The kid can’t pass or tackle and you want to put him at hooker lol.

Paix is a serviceable hooker. He’s likely not a long term option but he does a job. Billy is fine for 20-30 minute stints and he’s generally improving as the season goes on.

I have no idea whether he could fashioned into a better hooker than Billy or Cory, but that's not exactly a high bar to jump over. The best description you can come up for them is "fine" and "serviceable."

You can't find another position you want Tesi in, so pissing his salary down the toilet isn't the smartest move either.

The big issue with Tesi has nothing to do with skill or ability. It's mental, he lacks urgency off the ball, gives up to easy on cover defence, pulls up early, doesn't commit to bombs and essentially it comes down to a defeatist attitude. Sometimes it has to do with being so good in lower grades and having everybody tell you your the next big thing. You just never build the will to push on as maybe you never had to go the extra step. Fafita is another that I see of a similar ilk. They just lack the mental fortitude required at this point in their career.

The honouring sunk costs approach to coaching. Brilliant.

Not to mention who ever he squeezes out of the 17 will also have their salary pissed down the toilet.

I think our difference of opinion comes from me thinking Tesi has some elite talent we need to unlock whereas you've already written him off as a dud. I don't see either of our hookers as having elite talent, just more (some) experience in that position.

I got ridiculed for pointing at Te Maire as the canary, but it's the same logic. I'd rather Tesi left to the Warriors than Te Maire. If we have to manufacture a utility, I see Te Maire able to cover multiple positions at a higher standard than who we retained. Could he be trained to cover hooker for x minutes? Probably, I don't know. But if Adam/Ezra/Reece go down - which they will - he'd save our arse, and we wouldn't miss a beat.

Tesi probably doesn't cover any position, next year. Well, not with any aplomb.

You should be ashamed of yourself. How can you hate one of your own players?.
Best you go and support the Dolphins.
