Test Series v India

Agree, but only slight changes, biggest one being absolutely no inclusion for Ponting or Hussey. Old men, time to go.

Warner
Marsh
Khawaja
Watson
Clarke
Christian
Wade
Siddle
Pattinson
Lyon
Harris if fit, Hazelwood if not

THIS

Was about to type a similar side, but with Watson opening until I saw this post and it essentially saved me the effort.

In the long run, I'd have Cummins replace Siddle.

I'm Dan's biggest fan - It was a tragedy he didn't go to the ODI WC. He should have been an automatic selection in the t20 team for the last 3 years. However, Christian is not up to scratch to bat top 6 in a test match. Are we already forgetting how the Steve Smith experiment worked out?

The only way you could justify Dan is if Watson is still too crook to bowl. The Huss has had 4 poor tests. His previous 5 scores before that? 93, 118, 142, 15, 95. Stats guru tells me from his last 12 tests he's averaging more than his career average! If you want to point the finger go straight to Ricky. From the 2007 summer onwards he has averaged 38!!

Look if they stick with Hussey I can live with that, but I think his time is running out quickly. I wouldn't have him around for next summer.

Looks like both Punter and Hussey are safe according to Mickey Arthur... Not surprised but I am disappointed.

I don't think there's a lot he can do TBH. Marsh has also been ruled out. Had he been fit I've no doubt Ricky would be under pressure.

Easy Watson to 4 and Cowan to open.

Cowan is a 29yo career state player who doesn't average 40. Hughes is far younger and has him covered for consistency and scores. I'm not going to pick a bloke just for the sake of it.

I'm happy to replace Hughes with a slips cradle at the moment. He needs to get out of the side.

He'll play for sure given Watson won't be bowling. Biggest road in the country down there, that drop in pitch is an abomination.

Which means either Khawaja or Hussey/Ponting goes. Most likely Khawaja.

One of the weakest batting line ups we would have fielded in recent memory.

Haddin
Christian
Siddle
Pattinson
Starc
Lyon

... is not pretty reading. They're all a spot too high.

That's just a sign of the current state of Australian cricket.

Christian's been in good form lately but a bloke averaging just over 30 is first class cricket is not really worthy of a top six test berth.

Agree with Coxy's team on the first page, although no Christian obviously - Hussey can stay at 6. And I've never liked Brad Haddin's style, so the sooner we get him out of the team the better. Always plays a flashy innings when the team is on top but he's never the man for a crisis. Wish Tim Paine wasn't injured, I really like his temperament.

And hopefully Watson can get back to bowling soon. He's such a valuable cog.

Paine is out for another 4 months. Huge blow because he was our chance if dropping haddin
