The biggest disappointment of Seibold as a coach for me is that I bought into his academic new age coaching act. I thought he’d bring with him the cutting edge in sport science and apply it to league. I expected to have a roosters type set up, Instead we don’t seem to have any specialist staff. We got Ben Cross.
The only interesting thing Seibold did was bring with him his stat nerd which is cool but I imagine his job this season has consisted of reading a Professor Frink contraption and saying “we suck in every area”.

Well my other half is a clinical psychologist, so you might have to excuse me if I'm a little skeptical of meeting the Buddha on the road, so to speak. Like I said when I posted this in the other thread, his observations ring true, but I'm not sure his remedy will work. But, of course, it's worth a shot.

Another theory is there's a cancer within the squad. Maybe it's a single player. Maybe it's a faction of cynical players who suck the life out of the squad. Maybe it's that a few players are being paid more than their value. Maybe it's one or more players who don't respect the captain. Maybe the captain can't direct with authority. Maybe the coach's plan is too hard to implement. Maybe no-one can follow the coach's plan. Maybe there's a general disdain for the coach and his plan. Maybe the coach doesn't have a plan.

What's certain is there is no talk within the team. No one is directing attack or defence. No one is barking orders. The best you get is the dummy half doing that pointing thing before he bends over, which is no indication of anything.

My hunch is the coach is shot. There is no confidence in his vision. The other is Patty is out of his depth as captain, at least for now. Boyd and Milford don't want to be there. They're just turning up for their paychecks. And there is some sort of passive aggression going on.

The first thing I would do is make Payne Haas captain for the rest of the season. He's the only one who's led by example, for the last two years. If he doesn't have respect no one does. The time is now.

The second thing I would do is **** off Seibold, Boyd and Milford. Seibold, because he's been a proven failure. Boyd and Milford to show we don't tolerate mediocrity.

In my early 20s I worked for a company that employed a team of a dozen 18-27 year olds who worked under a staff manager and a head operations manager (both 40+). I got the job because my mates had worked there for a couple years already. The job was awesome, there was 0 accountability. The managers didn’t really care and even if they did they were so matey with the staff that they wouldn’t say anything. Everyone did the bare minimum and covered for each other. No one ever did any work, and I mean it. If any higher ups came and visited the site the managers would cover for everyone. Anyone who tried too hard or complained about having to pick up the slack would be pushed out and anyone who got around the culture was safe from any criticism.

Then one day, the head manager got the boot. I guess corporate finally picked up on his poor performances. They brought in a new head manager who was buy the books and strict as to sort the place out. How dare they expect us to all of a sudden put on effort at a job we were previously getting paid to do nothing at. They moved on the staff manager and brought in a new guy, and fired the worst of the group in a clean out and put the rest of us on notice. They employed a bunch of goody goodies to fix the culture.

The new staff worked hard...to begin with. Until we (the experienced team members) showed them how to cut corners and be lazy. The new staff manager came in full of plans and goals but being inexperienced he relies on the experienced staff for advice (even though we were below him in hierarchy). Eventually our toxic culture of laziness and disdain toward the new boss infected even the staff manager and they became disillusioned. Things continued to be as unproductive as ever but now with added friction between staff and upper management.

The place went through about 4-5 staff manager in 2 years. All of them would eventually be infected by the culture that was being set by us original 3-4 boys, and either leave or get fired and replaced.

Eventually a few of the guys from the early days moved on by their own accord, and management completely cleared the decks. All new staff and new staff manager. I knew some of the new staff by coincidence and it sounded like the whole culture had now changed and were buzzing. All they had to do was completely remove all traces of the original culture before things improved because the original toxic (toxic to productivity, sweet as for the boys) culture would infect any knew staff or initiatives.

Anyway, that’s a very long yarn that most probably won’t read, but I feel like it very closely parallels whats happening at the broncos.

it sounds very much like my experiences in the public sector, minus the ending where they eventually got their shit together.

you can always spot the new guy gleaming with optimism. give 'em 6 months I say until we (the system) break 'em and send 'em on their way...

Since 2015 I have not seen any players posting entire team photos. I see the factions tho, the Islander/GC boys, the young up and coming lads, and the Boyd/Oates wives crew.

I’ve got no connections to this group, but from the outside looking in they don’t look United.

Yep, I think I was banging on about something similar last year.
The group, like any group, needs an alpha, someone to set a standard to follow and to be able to pull the dickheads into line. There is always a hierarchy in any sporting group that is successful.
Some people have it and some don't and never will, even if they are the hardest trainer or a really good bloke, they just will never be a leader.

Sure, it could have been trimmed a little but I read it through and can see a real parallel with the Broncos. I don't really include the players in this even Milford could thrive under new management. It's a top down cleanout that's required but I don't believe the players have much to answer for. I think a lot, if not all of them are busting their guts to win. It's rotten at the top.
 
A 100-0 scoreline would surely see Murdoch step in. It would make international news that one
Murdoch would be smiling all the way to the bank if this occurred. I believe he is the major shareholder of the Broncos & also owns the Courier Mail. The CM is undoubtedly the biggest bagger of the Broncos ( after Gordie ). This would lead me to suspect that there is more $ in selling papers shitcanning the Broncos than there is in running a successful team.

They are mentally scarred for life as the 1st ever Broncos team to lose a GF, they will never have success again except with another NRL team or SL.
If the Broncs want to ever return to the giddy heights of premiership glory again and also the complete extermination of WBs influence - they better get rid of Boyd, Milford, Oates, Offa, Glenn and Kahu.

Most of those are gone in the next 14 months. Boyd and Kahu are gone this year, Glenn probably next. Milf will go elsewhere at end of '21 or get peanuts. Oates Player options to end of '22 - if he can capture some form won't be too bad, Joe is a problem - end of '22 on est. half a mil a year *puke*.

Hopefully ISC gets underway next year and Joe gets plenty of game time. That might light a fire under his arse. Mind you, he could trot around doing little in 21 preserving his body until 22 and then voila, a sudden burst of brilliant form and what do you know, offers for 23 and beyond.

I'm not as concerned about Oates, he wants to play first grade and I think is a team man too. He'll probably kick on. He isn't doing too badly as a second rower. Hopefully his body comes good. I see him resting for the remainder of this season.
 
Not exactly what this thread is about but I thought it interesting. Not sure who Dingo_Dan supports but an interesting take from a non-Broncos supporter. Seemed a fair enough take to me:

Broncos have always been arrogant, but for a long time in their history that arrogance was earned.

They had stacked teams, but every guy in that team put in, where the ultimate professionals. Early on in their history they punted qlds greatest ever player because he wouldn't have a dig. It created a great culture for onfield success.

The 2006 premiership came at the tale end of a lot of great players careers. Post Lockyer retirement they only had 2 players left from that success, Parker and Thaiday. Both were junior members of that team. Neither were key. At that stage of their careers you probably could have traded them with any random forward in 2006 and broncos still would have won. But these 2 had a huge influence on the next generation of broncos. Thaiday was always a Lazy player and Parker is infamous for being arrogant and egotistical. Justin Hodges was there, and imo he was the last of the true broncos, the arrogance that was earnt broncos, but he was never a natural leader.

Thaiday and Parker lead the next generation of broncos. Almost a golden generation of broncos. A core of their 2008 NYC team, plus guys like Gillett, Oates, Reed. These guys really achieved nothing, but carried the same sense of entitlement that the 90s and early 00s broncos teams had. Near enough was good enough for them. Just making the finals was enough. The bar really lowered with them. Even though they gained back another 2006 prmeirship player, it was the extremely introverted Darius Boyd.

This is why today's team is so bad. They have carried on the broncos arrogance and entitlement but have a serious disconnect from the great broncos sides. They are following and being influenced by the Cos-play broncos of the 2010s, the bunch of frauds who beat their chest at how great it is to be a bronco without actually achieving greatness like the Webckes, The Peteros, the Carolls of year's before.

Not sure I'd take anything from LU too seriously. Those pricks absolutely hate the Broncos. It's easy for anyone to say the players are arrogant because they've been told their whole lives the Broncos are arrogant, doesn't mean it's actually the case. Plenty of people will tell you we get more than our fair share of penalties too, it's a fact and everyone knows it despite it not actually being so.
 
Yeah I know all that but even so I think if we're discussing the club's culture then the above is an interesting take. And he's right about our 'arrogance' which I take to mean our old, much lamented expect-to-win attitude.

But yeh, we need to dig, find them and move them on...

My fear is the infection now runs to the younger brigade coming through..that would set us back even more than what we face currently

Things can turn around quickly in sport, but this will be the longest year of our Broncos supporting lives

trust me....there is worse to come yet...there are no answers whatsoever to what troubles this club

none....

So get used to it is all im saying....maybe we just forfeit..?
