The Storm.

Alos, one other thing; for quite a few sets you need to kick on the 3rd! That's right....the 3rd. Quinn and Turner don't drop back on the 3rd, therefore you have a better chance of the ball going dead, which is a must.

Regardless of anything else you have to play hard and really get into them early. Every time they have been beaten (bar Origin-less matches) in recent years the opposition have ripped into them early and it can really push them back on their heels.

Every time [icon_ee How many times in the past years have they been beaten?

They have had a great combination to. One that has been together for a long time. When is the last time we have had a combination of a 6 7 9 like we did in the 90's? We haven't. These teams who have can throw the ball knowing that their mate is right there ready for it. We don't have that.stuff you Bruno we nearly had it

Ennis will be a key player if we go up against them in the finals. He is an absolute pest, and because he doesn't play alongside Smith in the Maroons he won't have any kind of friendship with him. If Ennis can get under Smith's skin by restricting him in attack and giving him constant sledging, maybe that will frustrate and put him off his game.
Cronk has an easy time in defence in most games, we need guys like Tunza and Dave Taylor running the ball up at him hard and tiring him (or ideally taking him out of the game), and someone needs to read from the Book of Steve Price and knock him over whenever he even looks like kicking.
Agree with getting the ball out on the kick. Slater's kick returns against a staggered defence are the biggest part of his game, if he gets no ball that way he will have little impact and get frustrated.
When defending on our line, have Hodges on one side and Hunt at the opposite centre. Boyd reads well enough to be fullback in that situation and I'd rather have the muscle of Justin and K to smash the backs (specifically Folau and Inglis) into touch as soon as they get fingers on the ball.

I just think that you gotta keep on building pressure, repeat sets of six, no easy turnovers in possession.

The Broncos don't have any players with the same height as Folau and Inglis, so cross-field kicks to try and score tries shouldn't be in our game plan against the Storm, instead we need to grubber in-goal to get repeat sets of six and some set play grubbers to score tries would be our best go on the 5th tackle.

We need a player to play a Steve Price type role to pressure Cronk's kicking game, that's why The Warriors has some success against the Storm.

Slater can be suspect under a spiralling torpedo bomb,Slater has dropped a few bombs in the past few weeks, Lockyer has one of the best spiralling bombs in the game. Lockyer should definately test out Slater with his Torpedos. I also liked Bellamys game plan in the Origin against Slater, to kick straight to him and bash him, tire him out with a good aggressive kick chase team of Hodges, Ennis and co with a bit of niggle to put him off his game too. And I do agree with the idea of kicking the ball out into touch aswell, Slater will get frustrated by this tactic.

And attack Quinn's and Turners wings with our second man play, these guys can't help but getting sucked in and come off their wings.

And lastly, we should kick on the 4th tackle while the defence is still up and the wingers haven't dropped back, with a good kick chase team Hodges will definately improve us in this department of our game, keep on turning their forwards around and make them work it out from their 10 metre zone.

In this day and age, in even Q Cup, wingers are half back by the 4th anyways.

This is why I'd liek to see (not always of course) some kicks on the 3rd followed by a good chase.

the storm bore their opponents to submission, which takes the crowd out of it too. They're also cunning linguists.

The storm do have a wealth of stars and have gone some time without any great number of injuries, BUT so too have the Broncos over time, only difference being that we have still failed to do the one thing that the Bellamy coached storm are able to do, WIN THE GAMES WE SHOULD!

For 20 seasons the broncos have rarely been a safe bet, no matter who we had in our list, who or where we were playing or the relative form of either or both sides involved. I don't know what it is, but ever since day one. we almost never put sides to the sword and have lost more games to sides and lost in more pathetic ways than I care to remember, BUT WHY?!

What are the Storm doing at training or what is the culture that has been created where they managed to get it done week in week out for almost three years???

Who can say what the Broncos are or aren't doing? Is it a lack of intensity under WB, responsebility, is it complacency... Is it a feeling of never likely to be sacked, I don't know, I wish I did. Maybe we need a spy... perhaps Falou will tell us, or will he go off the boil at the Broncos... or without WB being there next season will the young centre be able to inject some of that winning formula into our lot.

Because on paper, we should be able to match the Storm or whoever for that matter... but we can't on the field.

Except you forget the following seasons;

92- lost 4 games (played 22) win % 81
93- lost 6 games (played 22) win % 72.72
95- lost 5 games (played 22) win % 77
96- lost 4 games (played 21) win % 80
97- lost 3 games, drew 1 (played 18) win % 77.77
98- lost 5 games, drew 1 (played 24) win % 75

Now, I don't profess to be an orsm punter, but to me, that looks kinda a safe bet.^^

Ahh yes. Because Bennett leaves next season, any success we have will have nothing to do with his legacy at the club. Of course, any unsucceful times we have would have nothing to do with him leaving and will be a mere coincidence.

Dude!!! On paper;
Fullback
The current Australian and QLD fullback.
The QLD "run-on" fullback, who at rep level, is now moonlighting in 5/8th and lock.

Wings
Two NSW reps
1 guy just up from QRL. And another guy, who is very promising.

Centres
The best winger in the Universe moonlighting as a centre, who is also the best aerial player in forever. A decent hand in the other spot who has made the NSW team once.
An Australian centre (when he actually plays) and a guy who just managed to scrape into the QLD team on the wing; which let's face it, is sort of given to any decent outside back atm.

5/8th
The greatest centre in the universe moonlighting as a 5/8th, a freak of nature
God

Halfback
The 3rd best half the universe. Has made the Australian team and when Locky does retire, if Thurston or Prince are injured, will be wearing a QLD #7. Knows his #9 like a book.
A very promising player, a NSW rep. Has to be in the top 2 NSW halfbacks IMO.

Props
A QLD rep, a NZ rep, a NSW rep
A QLD rep, a once was Australian rep, 2 guys (with potential) still fresh from QRL.

Hooker
The QLD and Australian hooker and (next/fill in) captain. IMO, the player worth the most $$$ than any other person in Rugby League.
A decent hooker, with an attitude problem who hasn't even made a rep side yet.

Backrowers
3 Origin reps (2 Australian), a kiwi rep (and IMO one os the most devastating 2ndrowers in the game), 2 promising youth.
2 Australian rep, 2 once were QLD reps, a kiwi rep, a guy with potential.

Make no mistake. The Storm are the best team on paper, in forever. The talent they have is amazing. When you actually look at the team, it defies belief that they can all fit under the cap. And in time, it will defy belief. By 2010 they will have no one. Already lost Falou, J.Smith and Crocker; Smith, Slater and Inglis are off contract 09. There time is limited. Let them enjoy it, sit back and watch the orsmness that is Storm.

so what you're saying is they've rorted the salary cap to this point and are unloading players before a bulldogs like cap scandal. Agreed.

Very likely.
How can the current 17 players be under 4.1 mill let alone all 25 players in the cap.

Where going to need a bigger boat after this bit of burly.

I agree, we need a bigger boat. Hey look--> an athlete on drugs. :P

No what he's saying is, if you talk Brisbane down enough you can make the Storm look even better.

The key to beating the Storm .. IMO .. is having a disciplined defence.

No rushing out of the line, no gaps ..... just hit them as a unit and stiffle them out of the game.

That, and a decent kicking game, should go a long way to getting the job done.

I make no mistake, the Storm ARE good, they ARE well coached and they HAVE had a good run with injuries; and the broncos HAVE had a great roster, HAVE had shocking runs with injuries and HAVE on a number of times underperformed under WB... and you can pick and quote any season you want.

It's ok Chumba - Hammo has verbal diarrhoea, and pretends to Coxy's Throne of being the Forum's Cunning Linguist.

The point is, the Storm win consistently - we don't.

So I've lost $100 - or will I, and the team I love will get smashed in the first round of the finals by some other team that has nowhere near the credentials we have.

Pass me the drugs Hammo.... [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1. [icon_lol1.

Man, this year's premiership will be arguably the worst of this generation, along with last years. Melbourne winning anything sucks.

Why? The key Storm players are Qlders: Slater, Folau, Inglis, Smith, Crocker ...
