The Storm.

Picking the players solely on the positions they currently play (hugely biased towards Brisbane);

1. Slater (Guys, it isn't the firey start of an Origin match. Having Slater on the bench isn't needed, and you can't honestly believe that Hunt is better then Slater overall. I love Hunt, he brings much to the table, however Slater is on fire. And has been for 2 seasons.)
2. Kemp
3. Falou
4. Hodges
5. Turner
6. Lockyer
7. Cronk
8. Lima
9. C. Smith
10. White
11. Thaiday
12. Crocker
13. Johnson

14. Hoffman
15. J.Smith
16. Hannant
17. Kaufusi

I got 5 this time. That's being very lenient and on name alone. IMHO, Hannant hasn't the right to tie Blair's shoelaces atm. Hunt maybe as a bulky bench spot, but he isn't playing that role at the Broncos and rightly so, it isn't his job.

I would have Boyd over Turner - Boyd can finish as well as he can but is a mile better than Turner in defence. Probably 1 of either Crocker or Johnson deserves to be in front of TC but not both and I could definately find a spot for Eastwood (at full fitness) on the bench, maybe in place of Kaufusi who has promised plenty but given little. I can't believe people are talking up White - his workrate is terrible and his weak performances in big games have shown he is nowhere near top shelf when talking about front rowers. Lima has outplayed him all year and if Clinton had performed all season like he has in the last 4 weeks he would be in the front row in place of White.

I agree Dave about White, he is complete shit and Clinton is currently in really good form and gets there over White any day of the week.

The Broncos have the ability to beat the Storm, even though at the moment it's hard to imagine it happening. You shut down Inglis and Smith, you win. I honestly believe it is that simple. And honestly, we can easily match their forwards if all of ours show up. Just need to win these next 3 games first..

Clinton over White is funny! White as crap as he has been for NSW has been very good for a long while consistently for the Storm, he doesn't have the greatest workrate but not all props do. As for big games look at the performances from White and Cross in last years grand final if you think he has never stepped up, for NSW they lump to much weight on him by not picking enough props to help him out and he then gets bashed as you would expect but for the Storm he aims up time and time again, not a great prop but better than Clinton on performances this year and the last few seasons for that matter. Clinton is playing half decent football now after seasons of wasted potential running like a girl, it is great to see him aiming up but he has some way to go yet.

Are you saying the Broncos aren't well drilled?

As a unit, undoubtedly.

But look at the effect that Hoffman and White, to name two in particular, have when it comes to playing rep footy.

They aren't great individual football players. IMO with the Storm pack you either have them all, or you wouldn't pick more than one or two in any merged or mixed team. They are drilled *too* well. They know every millimetre of how they need to play in that same unit week-in, week-out, but just can't adapt their game to different styles or when playing around different players. It's clearly, blindingly obvious IMO.

Translation: Storm are a champion team. Broncos are a team of individual champions...some of them in their own eyes *cough* Taylor, Parker, Ennis *cough*

Well, pretty much right.

The Broncos have far better footballers in their pack than do the Storm. There is such a thing as being too precise in what you want from your players (cough, Brian Smith, cough) and I think it's very clear that Bellamy falls into that trap when it comes to the engine room.

Yep. Although there could be an argument that the Broncos would play better if their forwards worked better together. And didn't run off doing chip and chases to themselves *cough* Ennis *cough*.

Absolutely.

I just think people go WAAAAAY over the top when suggesting the likes of Hoffman et al. should be in any "best of" or prospective rep team named. Hell, has this guy played enough rep footy for people to realise that he is USELESS unless he's wearing a Storm jumper?

If it was that simple then the Storm would be out of the 8 right now. It's just not that simple to shut them down.

I am not saying it is simple to shut them down. I am saying it's a simple game plan to adopt. Hard to make it come off but that's the way to do it, that's the way it was done one great night in 2006.

I remember with great fondness Berrigan being attached to GI's legs all match.

Yep Mick, however I go one step further on Hoffman and White; these guys are crap at ORIGIN level, however at club level, when they are playing lesser opposition, they play damn well! Have you guys actually watched a Storm game?

Chumba- I understand what you are saying ref a great team in pat that hasn't performed to what they should on paper. I just don't think we have been that great on paper since end of 06. I hear what you are saying, esp seasons 01-06.

Also remember guys, many of our "reps" are old timers. They "were" reps and for some reason keep getting selected on name alone.

Johnson and Crocker over 08 TC no questions.
White over Clinton no questions.

In summary; to prove how great Storm's current roster is compared to Broncos; look at this years Origin selections.

That's exactly my point. Superb players when alongside and around the blokes they play with week-in, week-out. Shithouse the second they pull on a jersey that isn't the Storm's one.

Agree with Mick, they're great in the Storm pattern of play and understanding they have with Cam Smith etc.

It'd be interesting to see how they would go at another club. And it'll surely happen. People go to Melbourne to make a name for themselves and then go to a real club.

Like Izzy did.

Cam Smith makes them look good. Now if they had Shane Perry....they'd look even better.

And with Minto and Kelly on the wings... UNSTOPPABLE

And Seymour at 5/8....

Perry and Seymour would have to be the playmakers of the century - yep UNSTOPPABLE!

Fark Cronk and Inglis...
