The Broncos are poised for a major strike at the player market with chief executive Paul White revealing they now have salary cap space to contend for the best off-contract players.
The Courier-Mail can reveal that by letting Martin Kennedy, Josh Hoffman and Dave Hala break their contracts early, the Broncos have significant cap space for the 2016 season.
The obvious target for their needs is off-contract North Queensland enforcer Jason Taumalolo but Israel Folau, Kieran Foran, Daly Cherry-Evans, Dane Gagai, Billy Slater and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves are also free agents for the 2016 season.
The club is also willing to let Ben Barba go early if the fullback can find a suitable club.
White stressed that recruitment of players would be coach Wayne Bennett’s decision and they hoped to find the players they needed in-house.
However, they now have cap flexibility to chase any talent they require.
“If needed, we will go to the market,” White told The Courier-Mail.
“We will be in a strong position.
“If we need to add to the roster, we will have the ability to be in the game for a player.
