Not long after Boyd was photographed on his mid-season holiday, the Knights came out and said that if Boyd left they wouldn't be paying him a cent (but he was welcome to stay and fulfil the contract).

now, obviously i have no idea if they changed their stance, but it could also indicate that we are picking up his full contract value
I think it highly unlikely that Newcastle are not paying something towards Boyd simply due to the news release they put out or perhaps it was a journos question they were replying to. In short they said the financial arrangement was private which is what you would expect however I would think if they were not paying out some portion of Boyds salary they would have said so. By doing so they fulfil the secrecy aspect yet indicate they had no more to pay. Like I wrote earlier , Newcastle might think releasing Boyd with a small outlay is better than retaining him when he may or may not be a contributor.

Doesn't the NRL own the Knights now?

That's incorrect. I posted it recently...

The example is clearly for 1.5 years, where the full contract value has to be paid between both clubs for the whole period!

You're correct I misread it at the time. a very silly/illogical rule though. In any other job you get paid a redundancy. Not a guaranteed salary.

In the same breath nrl.com have been wrong before (november 1st negotiation window). Even coaches believed that one.

What do you mean, they have been wrong before? The November 1st rule abolishment has been on the nrl.com site since 2010, where I got it from many times, after media repeated ad-nauseum the clubs couldn't talk to players before it...

The weirdest part on that one, is that all clubs and media were told by the NRL about it. :noidea:

Wrong, Barba was moved on because there was use for him,he was surplus to needs. He was also a financial burden which when removed allows the possible signing of Rod Griffin should he impress. Further to what Shakespeare wrote, should I find myself in a battle of wits, and I find myself half a wit short, I'll be sure to call on you....

Hey Huge, call on me anytime. I am sure you will enjoy the echo.

To say Barba was surplus to our needs is equivalent to what I said. Bennett didn't want him. He wanted Boyd.

Bennett determines our needs now

If only Boyd was a quality prop

So let's look at the recruitment now since Wayne has taken over...

Gains: Adam Blair, James Gavet, Travis Waddell, Joe Boyce, Darius Boyd (all but confirmed)

Losses: Ben Hannant, Martin Kennedy, David Hala, Josh Hoffman, Ben Barba

Got to say, on paper I absolutely loathe it. I try and judge these signings if they were to happen to the Titans or Dragons so if the Broncos somehow manage to be successful next season and the likes of Blair, Gavet & Boyd are able to improve on the efforts we saw from those listed, I'd have to give Wayne all the credit in the world.

But right now, it isn't looking good.

To me personally BP, I think the squad is way more balanced than next year, with good forward depth, flashy players without having to many and solid players who just play their part for the team.

Yeah, I rate the cuts because we needed a bit of a cleanout.
I don't rate the signings though, they are mostly Parramatta or Cronulla level.

It basically looks like we threw out the rubbish, and the bin is full once again.

Imagine if this happened under Griffin...

What ticks me off the most though is that with Milford and Hunt there, if they play to how they played this year (and last year for Milford), we would have gone better next year than this year regardless of bennett coming here or not, yet Bennett will get all the credit for Milford carving up and Hunt playing the house down. a 1/6/7 of Milford/Barba/Hunt (or Barba/Milford/Hunt) could have been the most lethal combination in the entire league. Now we'll never see because of Bennett.

Bennett has brought a rubbish bench hooker who will never be good enough to start in an NRL team, a rubbish second rower who for some reason everyone thinks is a prop, a kinda unknown prop who hasnt set the world on fire, and an above average at best FB who has been out of sorts for 3 years. That is not good recruitment. He's lucky that we got Milford signed already, and that Hunt has made the position his own, otherwise we'd be in strife. As it is we already had a team that made the 8, we were cutting the chaffe already with hannant and kennedy being out of favour and at least one being given the move along orders, and we were improving it by adding the most exciting player in the game.

But now bennett will get all the credit if we have success, for a team that he had little to do with other than bringing in some shit players, and wont cop any of the criticism if we stay the same or go backwards.

He won't be able to escape the criticism if we go the same or backwards.

Despite everything, I expect the Broncos to be much better than last season. Anything else will be unacceptable, unless we have an injury riddled year like 2013.

He somehow managed to over the last 3 years. With all the flip flopping going on around here lately, it'll happen again if we miss the 8 or get bundled out straight away yet again.

If we miss the 8 with this roster I'll be off the Pro-Bennett bandwagon

EDIT: Bait
