Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

I wanna see what Kennedy's got tbh, hopefully he plays most of our last 6 games so we can actually get a read on whether he's been harshly done by early in the season or whether he's just not good.

The last 6 weeks of the season is VERY important for some of our players, it's basically an audition for Bennett, because he'll be deciding who's here and who isn't next season. People who should be playing their asses off in the next 6 weeks: Kennedy, Reed, Barba, Hoffman, Hannant, Vidot.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Moving Kennedy on is going to be tricky, so I don't know how that will play out. In regards to barba, his glory days IMO are behind him. I still think he may produce the odd flash of brilliance here and there but the days of him scoring 20 tries a year are well gone. During his magic run with the bulldogs he had the luxury of the following names, Kasiano, tolman, graham and pritchard absolutely plowing through opposition forward packs and producing a style of play in the forwards that other teams could not cope with (forwards passing the ball)

As for other recruitment/retention there is a story around at the moment that the cowboys are pushing hard for josh mcguire so we will see how that unfolds. Who really knows what wayne will come up with but don't be surprised if a few of the knights highly promising 20's kids follow him north.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

I can handle losing Kennedy and keeping Moose and Hannant .... especially now we have that young prop from Melbourne coming our way.

We still need more size up front IMO, and i think Bennett will recognise that fact also.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think that a lot of the WB enthusiasts may be in for a bit of a shocker next season...

However, I still hope that the Bennett we get, is still the master coach with all the smarts and ability to use the best players we have at their best.

There is no way in the history of... ever, that Boyd should get a spot in our 17, unless Hoffman throws another tantrum when he's put where he belongs ---> Wing.

If our backline is not something very close to the following, I will throw B4L off Suncorp's tier 5 stand. :thefinger:

1. Milford
2. Hoffman / Kahu
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Vidot
6. Barba
7. Hunt

I love this lineup, just switch the 2 and 5 around and it would be perfect. I think it's better to have someone speedy outside Hodges as he can make the breaks but probably needs a speedster to finish off anything too far from the line, while Copley is a better chance to go all the way by himself.

I can't see the logic in your statement. As far as I am concerned, the issue is, as Barba himself said, getting enough ball. Playing 5/8 guarantees that. He has had 2 games at 5/8. For mine, it is premature to make that sort of assertion.

With us, he got SweetFA quality ball when FB.

Apart from which, our style of play is at its best when our forwards pass the ball. The task at hand is to get them to do it more often, especially Thaiday, who needs to be used so much more as a ball player close their line. When he does, he creates great opportunities

Why are WB enthusiasts in for a shocker? One bad year at newcastle under pretty extreme circumstances ans all of a sudden he can't coach anymore... amazing

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Give or take 1 or 2 players, I really like the team we have, and at our best, we can compete with the best.

What we need is 80 minute consistency: attitude, line speed in defence and playing to our strengths: edges and backline.

What I want from Bennett is that, not a raft of his favourite boy wonders from Newcastle

This in part is true, but I'm over it being the excuse for why barba isn't doing well this year. Watch the bloody highlights reel please! He was a freak. He would bust out of tackles that looked made, prefect vision of the path to the try line from his own in goal multiple occasions (not once was it a fluke since he did it consistently) he scored tried from literally anywhere and had a very impressive fend ! I remember him just stepping out of a one on one tackle with peter wallace last year when he played us. .. And Wallace was a notable defender!

His ankle injury had hurt him. Mentally, he's not what he used to be. He would run on pure belief that he was going to score, and from literally anywhere. I read an article in the sunday mail about bennett's philosophy on self belief. How it has been proven to be as effective if not more effective than performance enhancing drugs.... the teams' mental toughness as a group has been in decline for the last 4 years under griffin. Bennett is one of the best coaches of creating synergy amongst a group. Why I am excited to really see what our payers are really capable of. All the slackers you've all been harping on all this time will soon prove their worth with a proper mentor and coach.

Bennett will deliver us a premiership. I think it can even be in 2015 or by 2016.

Believe. That power is greater than you know..

I agree with you belief is the key for him and maybe a slightly different game plan he could be back to his damaging best, either at five-eight or fullback.

I have a feeling Porthoz was more referring to his selections. Correct me if im wrong but i think hes saying dont expect WB to make the decisions we all hope for (milford at fullback, no reed) etc

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Were all those years where the broncos made the finals on the back of 5+ losses and a 50% win rate good years?

That wasn't the case for Newcastle last season. 1 win away from a Grand Final is a good season for that squad.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

1 Boyd
2 Vidot
3 Copley
4 Hodges
5 Hoffman
6 Milford
7 Hunt
8 McGuire
9 McCullough
10 Hannant
11 Gillett
12 Thaiday
13 Parker

14 Barba
15 Oates
16 Garbutt
17 Wallace

18 Glenn 19 Reed

Honestly this is what I think the squad will look like.

If that was the team it would be interesting to see how Barba was utilised off the bench.
