Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Were all those years where the broncos made the finals on the back of 5+ losses and a 50% win rate good years?

I don't think it's as black and white as that. If during those years Bennett had an above average team that everyone was expecting to be in GF contention, then I'd say it wouldn't be a good result. If he had a below average team that everyone was expecting to win the spoon, then I'd say it was a good result.

Did anyone really predict the knights would top 8 material last year, let alone finish one game short of the GF? This year has been terrible, I'll give you that, but to say last year was also, then I think you're letting your anti Bennett agenda get in the way too much.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

1 bad year?? Try 3 out of 3 lol.

Yes, because getting a team full of "nuffies" to a preliminary final, beating Melbourne in Melbourne along the way can be called a bad year...

Bloody hell..

Why are WB enthusiasts in for a shocker? One bad year at newcastle under pretty extreme circumstances ans all of a sudden he can't coach anymore... amazing
As QUEENSLANDER guessed, I was talking about player selections, rather than his coaching ability.

And like AP said, despite reaching the finals last year on the back of a 50% win ratio* and 8th spot, where Newcastle was pretty lucky with their opposition until the prelim, it has been 3 years since a WB team has performed at top level.

*Yes, I know they lost less than 50% of their games...

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Last year they just got very very very very very lucky that they didnt get matched up against any other team in week 1. They would've been eliminated. instead they played the team who was out on their feet, having just been smashed by the 12th placed and playing poorly broncos. you cant just look at where they finished overall to determine if it was a good season or not, thats what people on here have done in years gone by when some of us have wanted a shakeup in the playing/coaching roster, saying "we finished 7th so we are obviously doing great" when we finished 7th on the back of 8 straight losses and then exited the finals without a win.

you need to look at how they got to where they did, not just where they did. they were never going to win the grand final, and they only got to where they did by the luck of the draw in the finals, and about 4 other teams just falling apart at the end of the season (broncos included). as soon as they came up against a team in the finals who werent a shell of their former self they got absolutely blown off the park.

people love to point to the melbourne game as validation that newcastle had a great season, but did any of you even watch the bloody game?! melbourne were poor, as they had been since the state of origin series, and newcastle still only won off the back of some terrible refereeing decisions.

they missed the finals in his first year, just scraped in in his second year, and are still in the hunt for the wooden spoon with 6 weeks to go this year. they are not good years. they never posed a real threat in the finals last year, they were just filling up the numbers.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Blinded by hate and delusion. Get your hand off it. Here you are trying to dribble any kind of shit you can just to try and make people think you are right.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Maybe we could now get back to discussing the team and not Wayne Bennett's coaching ability.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Yeah our defensive structure definitely needs work, but our effort and scramble for the majority of the season has been pretty good.
We scramble well but we are always scrambling which wears us down quickly imo

I agree with all this, however I think you're still missing the point that the fact they were even in a position to be playing finals footy should be considered a good year with that newcastle team.

Some teams over acheive, some teams under acheive. Just because they didn't win the GF doesn't mean it was a bad year.

Re: Wayne Bennet's 2015 Team Line Up

Last year was a bad year was it? Made it to the finals and beat your team the storm. Sounds like it was an ok year.

If any Broncos coach had a 3 year stint at the club that was the same as Bennetts at the Knights ... there would be a sack the coach thread that is 200 pages long ... hang on there is right now. in fact Bennetts 3 years at the Knights are actually worse than Griffins 3 years at the Broncos ...

but hey don't lets facts get in your way.

Players that will likely continue to get selected include: Reed, Stagg, Lowrie, Boyd etc. get used to it.

I have no idea why some people have a romanticized view of Wayne Bennett now and actually forget how he coaches: for example:

His style is similar to Griffins ... I.e. 1 out runs before a 5th tackle kick

he rarely makes mass changes and under performing players survive in the top squad much longer that they should. i.e. Boyd this year

some of his selections are head scratches. i.e. Stagg has played at 6 under him

All of these points have been addressed previously, but you and your mates just ignore it to suit your agenda. I can't be bothered with you anymore.

Yes everyone, we are in for a terrible few years. Bennett completely fluked 7 premierships and has no idea. All hail AP, Foordy and Porthoz. Prophets and guardians of truth and decency

all i'm hearing from you Wayne Bennett groupies is that we are wrong and he won't do all the stuff he has done for the last 20 years. (i.e poor selections that everyone hates (Stagg, Lowrie etc), keeping players in the top grade who don't perform (Boyd, Michaels etc), continue his one out style)

but hey he is going great guns at the moment, he may even be able to beat out Ricky Stuart and win his first wooden spoon)

ALL HAIL THE GOD OF RUGBY LEAGUE WAYNE BENNETT.

And if we look at how the Melbourne Storm won "premierships" in 2007 and 2009 what do we gain from that?
