on a side note, not overly impressed on them getting hammered during the finals but couldnt care less about them making amatuer adult flicks

Pffft. Poor boys. You have stains on your reputations (and probably your clothes). You earn more money than most of the punters who pay $50 to see a finals game can dream of. Live the life many dreamt of. And you **** it away like this?

I hope they don't get sacked to be honest. But I want 12 month alcohol bans, banned from Alhambra lounge, and warned that even so much as sneezing in public will have their contracts torn up and deregistration from the NRL.

They have brought the game and the club into disrepute. There is NO doubt about that.

moreso the press brought the game into disrepute

I was at a function tonight with a room full of people I didn't know, now I'll talk and mingle with anyone. But I kept a low profile and walked around just listening in on peoples conversations. Yes yes I know BUT about 80% of them where talking about the Broncos and what happened and not to many of the talks where in favor of the club or players.

And no I didn't win the 5 star trip to the Grand Final. [icon_thumbs_do

Too right; Their Australian wide image in the general public (and most importantly their marketing image) has been severly diminished by this episode.

Sure it's the talk of the town now but no reason it won't go away like most of the other incidents have. Realistically how may times do you hear Gaz and the phone or Laffranchi and his incident come up in general conversation when talking about the footy - I hate the Bulldogs but honestly the Coffs Harbour thing barely rates a mention these days unless you are at the game yelling abuse at them. It's instances like these that see all of these old issues bubble to the surface for another 15 minutes of fame.

It is a frenzy at the moment because no-one knows the truth - is everyone going to apologise to the players involved if it is decided they have no criminal case to answer? If handled in an appropriate manner there is no reason why the image of the Broncos has to suffer any long term damage.

I remember a few years ago the Dogs had some players accused (but not proven guilty ) of sexual indescretions. When they played in Brisbane , Coxy and co abused them from the sidelines calling them rapists and other hideous insults. I still have the transcripts of Coxys insults...he supplied them himself on this forum...freely admitting he called them the worst names possible even though nothing was proven, then or later.

Strange how his views have changed...another one Coxy got wrong but would never admit too.

If you read this before I'm banned for bringing up this disgraceful slice of history please remember that the only people who are permitted to be wrong are the non-admin...Coxy is never wrong because he simply picks up his bat and ball and runs home...I guess this will be my last post because I suspect I will never be allowed back on.

Coxy. to be remembered and thought of as fair and reasonable you have to be just that. It takes courage to be wrong and admit error...I pointed out at the time that it was wrong but who listens to an old man ?

I know where you are coming from, but do you honestly think other supporters wont be calling Hunt/Thaiday disgraceful names and jokes too? (even if they turn out to be innocent)
It's something we would have to live with. Unfair or not.

IF I was the player, and I was proven innocent, I would not think for a second there would not be people out there calling me names here and there for the rest of my career, personally I would tell them to go jump. (In my head of course, not out loud, but that is the attitude to take imo) They have no right to judge you but they will, all you can do is hold your head up high because you know what you did. They dont.

I feel the same about these Bronco grubs as I do about the Bulldogs. Illegal? Jury (or at least the investigation) is still out. Doesn't matter. These guys might well be dumb arse, uneducated, idiotic young men who want to spread their seed wherever they like, but they're in a privileged position. They have to respect that.

They didn't.

I have so little respect for these guys as men now it's not funny.

Me too Coxy.

Do you think we're gonna hear anything from the Club or are they just going to ignore this? I reckon the players need to eat humble pie and apologise. Look at what Roy has done...it isn't that hard and will be one step in the right direction to restoring some sort of club pride.

They definitely will need to make a public apology, but they won't be able to or asked to until the police investigation is finished.

Yeah, as long as something is said soon though, not even about the allegations just about the negative publicity at this really exciting time of year. I sent the club an email with my opinion saying as much.

I don't particularly respect many players off the field anyway. Webcke, Petero, Hannant have been notable exceptions.

I like them for what they do on the field.

Yeah, I think what they've done is, at best, totally stupid and not something that I would partake in. But good luck to them, I guess...

Damn straight. And I'll throw heaps of ex-players as well. That's why I can't believe people are so "shocked". These guys are far from angels, off the field, at thes best of times.....but then who is?

A person from this forum tried to explain it (people's "shock" and feelings toward this allegation) to me last night.

He said;
Finding out your idol's or heroes are human and partake in behaviour that you personnally would find deplorable, is like a child finding out there is no Santa Claus.

That's a brilliant analogy Hammo. Whoever came up with it is very astute.

Fans see football almost like a fantasy, a way to take them away from reality and into a different world where your heroes are virtuous and immortal. It's so much harder to have the same passion and enthusiasm when you know they get up to shit like this in their own time.

Which is why it's better to know as little as possible about the men, but rather focus on the bloke in the jersey.

And the best way for that to be possible is for the players to keep their private lives guarded.
And the best way for them to do that is to not act like a dickhead in public.

Funny how it all comes back to the same point. And ultimately if these guys are too dumb to keep their noses clean in public, the club has to make it a part of their contract that they're forbidden from frequenting public places of drinking and debauchery while on the books.

This hits the nail on the head for me. I am not at all shocked or surprised at this behaviour. I hear whispers and hints at what they get up to, but until now it's all been hearsay and fairly easy to ignore. When they do something so publicly, and it is shoved in my face for 4 days in a row, it becomes a little harder to ignore.

I was quite happy believing the fairytale that has been presented to me by the club for the last 10 years, because it made the game more fun to watch when I held genuine affection for the players. If someone had said to me "do you really think these players behave themselves off the field?" I would have said "of course not, but I don't want to know about it". It was a kind of self-inflicted (and blissful) ignorance.

.

Especially in a one team town, where the patrons you are spitting on and cutting in front of more than likely support you & your team. This cuts me a bit too.
