I don't particularly respect many players off the field anyway. Webcke, Petero, Hannant have been notable exceptions.

Damn straight. And I'll throw heaps of ex-players as well. That's why I can't believe people are so "shocked". These guys are far from angels, off the field, at thes best of times.....but then who is?

A person from this forum tried to explain it (people's "shock" and feelings toward this allegation) to me last night.

He said;
Finding out your idol's or heroes are human and partake in behaviour that you personnally would find deplorable, is like a child finding out there is no Santa Claus.

[eusa_clap.gi Brilliant quote. It fits in for so much too, though.

Love so many footballers solely for the football they play - for the entertainment and enjoyment I get when they're on the field. Off the field, I would have absolutely nothing in common with most of them, and probably wouldn't even get along with them well at all.

Just like music. The likes of Bob Dylan, Victor Wooten, Eric Clapton and Neil Young have been some of my musical idols. Away from their amazing performing and songwriting abilities, most of them are utter twats!

Yeh true, the argument has taken a strange tangent of separating the 'player' from the 'man' which is interesting. Rock, are you saying you would lose respect of them as MEN but not as football players? As in their skills and ability on the football field?
If so, I reckon that is pretty fair.

I've heard nothing IMO that warrants suspension let alone sacking.

I always thought Tunza was a decent bloke off the field too eusa_think

Nick Kenny would have be one of the exceptions for sure . Maybe something to do with the fact that he is one of the few educated players in the team which will have a profession when they retire and their life is not all about football. The last few days takes me back to the days of Keevie, Alfie and co .We all heard the stories and many of us longtime supporters would have no doubt seen alot of the mischief. Back in the day when players played for peanuts , they just loved their footy and we loved the team and couldn't really care less what they got up to. We even had a laugh about old Julians's many exploits!!

Excellent point Kymbo......imagine if we awoke one m,orning to a news article of a player doing what O'Neill did in that Casino!!!

It would be bigger than this by far!!!

How times have changed.

The cornerstones of out team for years to come.

Once ...many years ago I was involved in a bitter family court drama...for my boys first 3 years he resided with the mother before spending the next 12 years with me, his father.

During battle a few disgusting things were alleged by the mother in a desperate bid to inflict pain.

My point is this....only the very stupid are allowed to label some-one as a criminal without proof. You can have your own view of course but slurring someone is not only wrong, it in itself is illegal...a criminal act.

They structured our laws that way to avoid the very same thing happening to our players.Coxy, you removed the offensive slur straight after I pointed that out to you(rightly so)..you did that because it was the smartest thing to do unlike the insults hurled that day. You know it's wrong to slur people..I tell you from painful experience what a deeply offensive label does to you...most particularly when totally innocent of wrong-doing.

Absolutely, and one of my all-time favourite Broncos. Don't know how I left him off the first list - a great family man and ambassador for the club/game. Always great off the field too. I remember telling him after a match a few years ago that I didn't want to take any of his time, but just wanted to shake his hand and congratulate him on a good match. 15 mins later he was still chatting away with me. icon_thumbs_u

Nick Kenny looks like he's a good lad...glad we have sewn him up, works hard on improving his footy and is a smart cookie to boot. Yeah!

Did anyone read in Webby's book about how he took Hodges under his wing and got his head back in the game, we need more of that.

That is just what Tallis was saying on NRL last night. There is no Webcke's,Lazo, etc anymore. All these guys are so young now to be taking another player under their wing or taking orders from them.

Mick did you understand every word Tunza said? [icon_wink
Will be really missed at the club. Top player and top bloke from what we hear. Funny bloke to.
I kind of saw Sammy stepping into that role one day

Hey look, there's no reason Sam and K can't still be leaders and role models for the younger blokes coming through the club. All they have to do is look at themselves and realise this was a massive **** up and coach the younger guys saying "look at what happened to us, that's why you just have to be so bloody careful about how you behave. Partying is not worth this sort of crap."

If they take that attitude to this, then I can see them salvaging their reputations.

If they take the attitude of "we dun nuffing wrong, it's all the fucking media's fault" then they're not the men for that job.
