What is happening at the Broncos?

I agree with others on here, Lang Park crowds are the worst I have ever encountered. You can still watch a game and chant your support... Well most of us can do this simple multitask. People who just want to 'watch' the game are better off staying at home and watching TV as they're obviously not going for the atmosphere and they'll see more on TV. Brisbane folk turnout in numbers for Broncos games but they are timid as hell.

Why? Given the majority of us sit down and watch the footy, I would say the annoying ones should stay home.

Why is my statement being called out for being unoriginal? Have you read the rest of this thread? It's all been said before.

Not exactly. But I dare say the opinions spread by the media could be having an effect on the club. Wayne being told he's a bad father, Milford and Bird being called fat, the Hunt jokes, the terribly overused Boyd jokes and the Matt Lodge stuff. These blokes are humans and it's entirely possible that they read comments. I don't mean BHQ specific comments either. Twitter, Facebook etc. mostly. But I also never said it was directly leading to us playing badly. I did say that not being able to hold onto the ball is though.

To be fair though, to say the players are playing bad because the fans are shit is just as reasonable as any other guess on here. Because that's what they all are at this point. Guesses.

Are you serious? Can you drop this poor me sad sack act? I was pointing out that it's been an ongoing argument for years, you assumed that I said you were arguing, and I cleared up the point you were making was nothing knew to confirm I wasn't calling you out for arguing.

Holding onto the ball is a massive part of it. Can't fix attitude if you can't fix the basics.

They need to sack up if that's the case. yes they are humans but criticism of all forms is part parcel of being a professional sportsman.

I remember Lockyer saying in an interview when everyone was saying he's shit, the Lockyer 5/8 experiment has failed, if he doesn't move back his rep career is over, so on and so forth - his response to the question what he thought about the criticism? he didn't read it. he didn't read the papers, read social media (facebook and myspace existed back then) or take on board what others said apart from the people that mattered, being his coach, his family and his team mates.

If the players are bothered by the criticism, they need to zone out and stop paying attention to it.

I just answered the question that was asked, even though it wasn't the point I was making and probably wasn't an honest answer. I doubt they do read the comments and if they are affected by it they should harden up. Fans are a part of the club and many people think Broncos fans suck. Sometimes it's not difficult to see why when they jump up and down like the world is ending after every loss. And that's not aimed at anyone in particular.

I get ya, in the modern age success is now now now otherwise everyone's shit.

But that's the rollercoaster of being a fan I suppose. Forums are an outlet for that, I think most people are more reasonable the day after a loss but at the time they just want to vent which is fine. I don't really care what other fans think of us though, do you? It's not like you get a trophy for best fans in the NRL.

They do read a lot. I know for a fact we have players checking this place out.

Have you ever seen Broncos Mean Tweets? They did a couple back a few years ago.

It's embarrassing really. Opposition fans are noticing too. The silence at games when we are leading, people trying to start Mexican waves when we are down by 20 with 20 to go, half of this site admit to supporting 2nd teams! I get that everyone supports the club differently but Broncos fans suck and it needs to change. We are hated by every other club yet we treat their players like long lost family members. We need to embrace the hate and give other teams a reason to hate us.

I have a theory for this. I think the Broncos fans are actually fantastic, we are the only side in the comp that regularly posts 30k plus attendances, thanks to being a 1 team city. I think the reason for lack of atmosphere sometimes is because a lot of the 30k might not be diehard supporters and are just along for a good night out and may not even follow the NRL that closely. Each week a large portion of the 30k spectators are probably different to the week before. Further, being a 1 town team, a lot of local non Broncos supporters would be more inclined to go to support their team when they visit Brisbane, further diluting the fanatics and atmosphere.

Compare that to some of the other teams who have a small but extremely fanatic and vocal following. They go every week and probably make up a lot larger portion of the 10k crowd at a small home ground. The atmosphere would be fantastic i'm sure, but I don't think we can hate on the casual RL fan at a Broncs game.

Annoying is plainly subjective. What you find amusing may not necessarily tickle the rest of us. Likewise, what you find annoying may seem fun and expressive to another. Personally I have never found fans at the footy chanting annoying. It's the passive deadheads who sit motionless I find dispassionate and slightly off-putting. Its the footy for heavens sake not the frickin ballet or some highfalutin opera.

Like in almost any other stadium outside of Australia, there should be areas for both types of people.

At Suncorp, that is strongly discouraged, and results in the piss-poor atmosphere we see most of the time, except for the away bay, where supporters are generally the rowdier type.

I dont think there's anything wrong with chanting and songs and so on, but certainly dickheads in front of you that won't sit down is annoying as **** and doesn't add anything to the atmosphere imo.

Has anyone else noticed how shit our fan base has been over the last few years? It's like they're a bunch of bandwagoners that hop on awhen we are playing great and hop off as soon as we aren't winning by 30 points. The players seem to be playing the same way. If things aren't working for them they have a sook and don't put in any effort.

Then there’s the Facebook group where you aren’t allowed to bag out players for playing shit

I agree. Nothing worse than someone who won't sit down. More so when they have an opposition jersey on and we're behind. :-)

The guy at Brookvale that starts chanting "Manly" annoys the **** out of me for some reason. Have no issue when I pile of people do it, but that just seems to be one guy.

Well you only want me to stay at home and watch it on TV because you're annoyed right? So it works both ways. I actually don't care, I'm there to do my thing, you're there to do yours.

Most of the people I see not getting involved tend to be those who simply have no idea what is going on, who is playing, or is that one Souths guy who is at every NRL match.

People can express their passion for the Broncos in far more ways than simply going mental at the footy, it doesn't make them any less of a supporter.

I can't comment on outside of Aus, but it was no different when we played out of ANZ. I don't reckon it's Suncorp, I mean, it's allowed for Origin, so it must be the team.

What's security like over there compared to the guys who look one step below bouncers that looks after the place when the Broncos are there?

Cant comment on European stadiums but it was fucking wild in Brazil. Lots of fun. Lots of chanting, flares, singing, dancing. It was honestly like a carnival in the stands.

Don't forget the fires and those crazy shot they serve in the plastic tube.
