What is happening at the Broncos?

Imagine signing for the Broncos, it's your first game at Suncorp Stadium. The crowd is roaring and the referee blows his whistle for kick off. You're hyped and ready to tear in and that wild Brisbane crowd falls silent like they do every week. All that excitement would immediately be sucked from you.

Isn't that where the ground announcer or whatever you call it is supposed to earn his money?

Plus, what is wrong with having a second team?

The ground announcer is a Manly fan so **** that guy too. Nothing is wrong with it, just makes it hard for some to take you seriously as a Broncos fan. Let it be known that I don't mean that your opinions are worth less, just that they might be less pure as you want two teams to succeed instead of one. For example, if you wanted the Sharks to win a premiership you should be mocked often just like the Raiders fans who show up on here every so often.

You might like that 2nd club but all of their fans hate our club. Your soft spot isn't reciprocated.

You mean I should be screaming and acting a fool instead of watching to game I paid money to watch and enjoy? I'v enever understood this argument, ever. I've experienced it many times, and know exactly the "silence" people talk about. It's because we are watching the bloody football.

There was a mad keen Broncos fan in the front row of our bay trying to get things going. No one is interested in him, because he's not in the middle playing footy, and while he's acting an idiot looking at all of us, screaming, and banging on, we just want him to STFU so we can watch the footy.

Edit: As for second teams. I don't have a soft spot for the teams fans, why do they even matter?

Suncorp management is definitely to blame for a lot of it. They suck the life out of any supporters or groups trying to improve the atmosphere in the stands. They're too focused on comfort and convenience, but prefer to call it safety to avoid criticisms...

Of course, there is also a responsibility from the club, administration, coaching and players to draw the public into it, and they're not even close to doing that either.

Firstly, what argument? I am just saying it would suck for the players to hear dead silence after the kick off. It doesn't happen at any other stadium. Not to that level anyway.

Secondly, I answered that already. Every other fan despises the Broncos. We complain about our team not having the killer instinct and being too nice to other teams yet a lot of Broncos fans do the same thing.

All I am saying is that opposition fans are tired of Broncos fans being so entitled and a lot of Broncos fans are tired of the constant end of the world attitude that occurs after a loss. Some are no better than the Paul Kent's and Buzz Rothfield's that spurt bullshit to cause hysteria.

What is wrong with the Broncos? They can't catch, that is where our problems have started and ended this season.

Absolutely, but how long has it been happening at Suncorp? Why do opposition chants drown ours out? It's hardly a home game if we can't boo the ref and get the home town penalties every other club gets.

Yeah I completely forgot Boyd. He will definitely be picked and rightly so on the wing, he has never let anyone down there. Milf should be nowhere near the side unless he drastically turns his form around in the next month which is highly unlikely. Macca will be shadow for Smith but unless Smith is injured, he won't even be close. So McGuire, Gillett, Boyd and probably Bird. Can't see anyone else in there, so unlike the glory years.

Didn't Walters drop Oates from origin because Walters wanted a genuine winger? I wouldn't call Boyd a genuine winger these days and with his injury woes Walters might make the harsh call.

I had a season ticket from 06-12, in that time the atmosphere wasn't any different. For whatever reason Brisbane has always had a lack of atmosphere, I don't know whether it's the apathy of the fans, the stadium staff (they definitely don't help) or the overall culture but it's never been an in your face atmosphere.

For mine the best game I went to was the Lockyer finale in '11. Atmosphere was rocking. Also in the infamous storm final in 08, everyone was fired up after toiletgate.

What do you mean what argument? Turn it on mate. The argument that Broncos fans go missing in the stadium instead of supporting the team. Every Broncos player would know about it, so I can't see it being a bother to them, especially since the pros block all that noise out anyway.

They are too nice to plenty of teams, and we haven't had killer instinct in years, what's the issue with pointing that out? What's the issue with being upset that your team, who you expected to do better, didn't do better? What's the issue with discussing your opinion on why you believe that has happened?

Ever had a thought that fans ride emotions...if the team is playing piss poor or showing no emotion/heart/commitment, the fans won't respond in the stands either?.....just sayin....

That's true. But the Broncos could be on a 50 game winning streak, and up at the halftime break by 72 points, and the stadium would still just rather sit and watch the footy than act like a bunch of roudy dicks.

Well it wasn't an argument. I just said that it would suck out the excitement on the field. And Broncos fans do go missing. We get drowned out by the away fans for ***** sake. It's embarrassing, just like a lot of things the fans do are embarrassing.

That last question, that is a good question. Ask yourself that and you'll see entirely why I brought it up in the first place. I am joining the discussion about what is wrong with the club. I think the fans are one of the things that is wrong with the club.

Probably not when he has to go collect his payslip from Boyd's dad.

I wasn't saying you're arguing, but your thoughts on quiet crowds isn't a new one. It's been debated forever.

Do you think it's because Wayne is reading the comments? The fans opinions on the state of the club is having an effect on the team?

Boyd hasnt let QLD down in an origin jumper yet. Until he does, he will have a spot somewhere in that team

No problem with Loyalty card if Boyd is fit. But cannot have a player in origin afraid or unable to stretch out. Boyd/Inglis combo could be come quite fragile

Holmes is stinking up because he’s 3rd choice fullback at Sharks when he feels entitled to it. Pretty bad when your club buys two fullbacks over you having said that. Got a bit of the Hoff in him nonetheless I suspect.

Honestly the lack of vocal crowds isn't localized to Brisbane, I don't think many clubs are overly vocal.

Sharks and Cows from what I see/hear on TV tend to be fairly noisey but they're both bogan areas, makes a bit of sense huh. I think Melb is sometimes loud too but from memory they had their stadium designed for acoustics so it probably reverbs better than ours.

I agree with others on here, Lang Park crowds are the worst I have ever encountered. You can still watch a game and chant your support... Well most of us can do this simple multitask. People who just want to 'watch' the game are better off staying at home and watching TV as they're obviously not going for the atmosphere and they'll see more on TV. Brisbane folk turnout in numbers for Broncos games but they are timid as hell.

Why is my statement being called out for being unoriginal? Have you read the rest of this thread? It's all been said before.

Not exactly. But I dare say the opinions spread by the media could be having an effect on the club. Wayne being told he's a bad father, Milford and Bird being called fat, the Hunt jokes, the terribly overused Boyd jokes and the Matt Lodge stuff. These blokes are humans and it's entirely possible that they read comments. I don't mean BHQ specific comments either. Twitter, Facebook etc. mostly. But I also never said it was directly leading to us playing badly. I did say that not being able to hold onto the ball is though.

To be fair though, to say the players are playing bad because the fans are shit is just as reasonable as any other guess on here. Because that's what they all are at this point. Guesses.
