Where does Benji Marshall fit in?

This could turn out to be a very shrewd deal.
i mean what would you pay for a halves mentor, one that can play backup or fill in when experience is needed.
100k seems cheap.
And for Benji, it's a way to transition into coaching post career. Win win.

I mean.. technically it's not official until it's on the club website, there can always be issues with the NRL registering it, etc.

On that topic, I saw a quote from Benji's manager last night saying something along the lines of "Benji has been told that if he trains hard and performs, he will be selected". So if that's accurate, Wayne doesn't seem him as a depth player, but somewhere in our 17.

I'd imagine that would be said to all players in the group.
I hope he trains the house down!

Think it wound up being 200k

Thought Benji would be focussing on his media career post footy but I guess a halves coach like joey could be what he's thinking...

I'm not against the Benji signing he's coming super cheap, provides depth and a potential mentor. We've also lost most of our halves talent over last few years so the 20's are probably barren for us at the moment with no juniors to give the contract to as renouf is suggesting

Wayne isn't afraid to mix up positions, like Glenn into the middle late last year was a masterstroke. Whether Hunt could be shuffled around the middle with Macca at 13, I dunno. If Bennett can extract the form turnaround he did with Blair on Marshall, anything is possible.

You have to be willing to try something different or else you get the same result.

How do we beat the Cowboys in a clutch game in the final 5 minutes..? That is literally the only thing between us and a title.

We can beat any team on our day, except for the Cowboys in the above situation

It doesn't hurt to put a bit of selection pressure on Milford and Hunt which is something that didn't happen this year and wouldn't have happened next year otherwise.

Benji always relied on his running game as a half. He never had much else going for him. What can he really teach our halves? Tell Milford to enjoy it while he still has his speed too?

He's 91kg as it is, so he's the same sort of size as Roberts/ Lyon- it's up to his defence. I really like the idea of having a playmaker in the centres: it'd make that side of the field insane with Benji, Milf, possibly Oates, Thaiday, and Boyd lurking.

The more I think about it, the more I realise how important Benji is. But it needs to be a 2 year deal instead of one. He has an excellent record against the Cowfucks. He's going to be the difference. I dread the 2018 season because you bet your ass the NRL will do their fucking hardest to send Thurston off a winner when he retires in 2018. Benji can counter this bs and send him off in a worse possible way that Justin Hodges could only imagine.

So, 2017 is a rebuilding season, and Benji can sort himself out and get rid of the bad stuff out of his game and we can get ready for 2018 which will contain yet another NRL manufactured bs Broncos/Cowboy semi/prelim/GF.

Also the media is important here. They love Benji and by a small chance, we may become a "fairytale" team in their eyes. These days to win a title you need 1 player in your team for the NRL/Sydny media need to fap over. **** you SBW/Souffs for starting the trend.

But like I said it has to be extended to a 2 year deal. Or this won't work and 2018 will have a bad ending, worse than 2015.

Wow

I'm making a video of his time at the Dragons since he got back from Union.. Some of the shit he has done, it's unbelievable.

If he can perform like that consistently, then we just got one of the deals of the century.

But of course, one of his biggest problems has been consistency. He can still do some amazing things with the footy, but the problem is, you just don't know which Benji Marshall is going to turn up.

Hopefully Wayne gets the best from him.
