NEWS Why Haas Rejected 6m Offer

Do you really think the Rosters are going to give us one of: Teddy, Keary, Walker or B.Smith in return for Haas?
It’ll never happen, just like an investigation into the Rorters cap will never happen.
Uncle Nick is far too influential for any investigation to take place whilst he is at the helm.
Honestly, no i don't think it will happen, but those would be the grounds to release Haas in my opinion.
Otherwise he see's out his contract and that would be the end of it.

It also has me wondering if all of the "talk" of convincing him to leave and go to the Roosters (sooner rather than later) is deliberately coming from the Bulldogs Roosters 4 Eva crew so that the Roosters can deny any alleged approaches to ask him to break his contract early (which is illegal).

"Of course not, that was just some guys in the media expressing their opinion, we know it's illegal and would never approach a player who is already contracted".

It doesn’t help that people all over socials and even some on here are talking about it like it’s already happening.

I reckon half of the player movements only come about by pure manifestation of media speculation

Which would be great to see Donuts come out and shut it down. In fact, it doesn't even to be anything substantial. Something like:

"We have been disappointed to hear the innuendo in the media about our contracted player. We are investigating these rumours as in the NRL era, you are not allowed to try and get a player to instigate a release from a contract and it is disappointing to hear speculation of this in the media. We would expect those who are supposed to be influential in speaking about these things to do so professionally and with an understanding of the reality of the situation being spoken about and if they are not doing so, this becomes a grounds for libel which we certainly hope we never have to pursue. Any player who is found directly responsible for this will not be released and will not be playing first grade for the remainder of their contracted period with us elsewhere.

At the same time, if another club is trying to get in the ear of one of our players, and we are not saying this is the case here, we would obviously pursue this matter legally and take it up with the NRL as this would be a clear breach of contract law and any party from another club or being used by another club could become open to litigation.

Of course, all that said, we have acted in good faith with all of our players, even upgrading some as a show of good will and we hope that this is not forgotten in media reports around the club. As Ben mentioned the other day, we are happy with what we have at the club and will not be going to market. Any further comments in the media or elsewhere encouraging any players to break contract will be met with potential legal action which of course we hope we never have to pursue."

Thats a fair call, but it is no different to the Fifita/Coates situations and they played out the same way.
Media noise > speculation > inevitable outcome.

There were people in here when the Media were talking about Fifita and Coates leaving saying it was just media hype, and click farming and the like and that it wouldn't happen.
There were also people in here who smelled smoke and looked for the fire.

This situation is very similar in a lot of ways and there is every reason to be both cautious and pessimistic about it because it has happened before and turned out poorly for the Broncos.

They're not the same, those players were off contract and could speculate meet with and talk to whatever they wanted.

That just gives it oxygen, Donoghy knows that- you don't need to hold a press conference to say a contracted player will play for you and continue to play for you and not another team.

Right, which makes this situation with Haas even worse.

The similarities i was referring to is those players saying they were staying with the club and not leaving, then leaving anyway.

We don't know what this situation is- at the moment it's a lot of media speculation is a player worth more and who would potentially give it to him.

Of course and that is why you don't call a press conference for it. You just make the statement as part of normal PR.

We do know that SBW and his crew are playing up his value, and hinting at him joining the Roosters before his contract ends.

We even had Gus come out and verify his management had approached the Bulldogs.
Then you have several well know NRL media outlets stating that there is potential trouble with Haas and his contract and he is looking elsewhere.

This is not just mild media speculation people are reacting to, its rife and it seems to be gaining more traction with each day.

After Coates and Fifita and TPJ is it any wonder people are skeptical?

I will add, this kind of response is exactly the same kind of response people had to Fifita leaving, and Coates leaving when it was just "media speculation".

(i'm not saying you are wrong btw, just stating that those situations played out poorly after "media speculation")

His mates can say he's worth a billion dollars, he can't just leave Brisbane. This hysteria he's going to run out for the Roosters tonight and Kevvie will be sitting at home saying what's going on? Is ridiculous.

Again they didn't have a contact- they could leave.

It is not hysteria, its a precedence that has been set in recent seasons with us losing some of our biggest stars.

Again they didn't have a contact- they could leave.
And again, this is SBW and the Roosters we are talking about, pretty sure SBW walked out of a contract before as well.

And wasn't allowed to play for anyone else for the duration of that contract. If Haas flees to France until 2025 then so be it.
That's fine, im just saying this isnt just media speculation and hysteria and some trepidation is understandable.
In recent times we have lost our big name players who have said they are staying, much like the Haas situation.
I understand there are contracts in place, but this whole contract situation is murky because it involves the Roosters and Politis and because of Haas legal issues with his manager (i know this does not affect his Bronco's contract).

If this plays out and Haas is still a Bronco next season, and all this blows over and was literally just a media circus, then thats all well and good.

But jeez after recent history with the Broncos losing big name players to other clubs, i would not be in the least bit surprised to see Haas playing for the Roosters next year.
