NEWS Win five games or you're sacked Seibold

All this does is give seibold 5 weeks to start looking for another job. We will be lucky to win 1 of the next 5.

If Pies was as smart as he claims to be he would go to the board and work out a severance package that works for both. Offer to walk away now for a million or something. If he stays the year he will lose any integrity he has left as the record losses continue to pile up. By leaving on his own terms he can take a few years off with his money and then re-emerge and rewrite the narrative. Get an assistants gig someone and rather than being viewed as an abject failure here he can push the narrative that he realised it wasn’t working and did the beat thing for the team.

Imagine being a player and reading this article ! No worries we play shit and the coach will get the arse and then when the new coach comes in we will pull our finger out of our ass.

It could be that if they are concerned about the look of a mid-season sacking, they are hoping an ultimatum like this will cause AS to quit, Dean Pay style.
Potentially a stroke of genius by the Board, but then I realised the likelihood of our Board doing anything genius-like :)

I'm really still curious to what changed after round one and two with the group. Something seriously went wrong in that break...I really cannot understand what has changed the dynamic so much.
This is the key... something must've happened during the covid shut down and dare I say it the board need to do an independent review to find out what the **** happened:
- Did the players come back unfit? If so was that on the players or was it on the coaching staff?
- The defence is horrendous... was that because of the rule changes? Was it a continuation on previous years and we are still trying to fix it? Why has the defence still not been addressed even though it was clearly an issue as early as the roosters game?
- Is the covid bubble impacting on coaching due to loss of the support staff? If so is the coach too dependent on support staff?
- The playing group and their current attitude issues on the filed... need to find out what the **** is going on inside these blokes heads that they're happy to be run over all game every game?
- **** ups in the recruitment process... What has led to the leadership vacuum? Was there an alternative approach compared to release of Roberts, Kodi, McGuire, Macca, etc. Although to me excluding McGuire I'm not sure many of the released players get into the team (outside of injuries)... It could also be argued that if the intention is to not re-sign Milf at the end of 2021, then why didn't we look to release Milf instead of Kodi to create cap space.

Other teams have handled the covid break and yet we have gone from a definite top 8 team to battling for the spoon and the football club need to figure out what the root causes are for that failure.

I've been asking myself that question a lot - what happened during the covid break. Posted it here a while back. Big Pete suggested 2 things. Loss of key players like Bird which was massive, then Fifita, and also we came up against the best teams which exposed us badly. Lack of coordination at a time when we needed it most, building a new spine and Bird being a key element in that. Losing inspirational players progressively, like Fifita, then TPJ, Staggs, Turpin - all pivotal to getting things and keeping things together. A new coach. Players just had the stuffing knocked out of them, and building a coordinated team with all that happening is proving somewhat hard.

Losing Bird was massive. He was ultra competitive and had a good football brain. Really needed him

Seibold talks about a lack of resilience and he's 100% right. I think losing Macca was also significant in that with Bird and Turps out, we lost a key organising factor around which the team was built, like Macca or not.

I think the real test of what we are made of comes when we have the full team back on the park. Changes until then can certainly help although they are not the answer yet until we see how go with everyone back

If an incoming coach has any nous he will weed these players out quick smart.

Meh.....two scrappy wins against two non contending sides at a time when everyone knew the season was about to shut down and possibly not return. Motivation may have been low in some players and everything was pretty chaotic at the time. I wouldn't take anything from those two initial rounds, the Roosters lost both of those games and now they are headed to their third straight title. The Bronco's problems were there from the start and would have eventually shown itself, COVID or not.

This should absolutely be the focus of any investigation into this season because something sure appears to have happened in that period. It appears that other teams individually and collectively (perhaps in breach of protocols) trained their asses off during that break and more so, after the rule change was announced specifically prepared for that.

We look as though we did none of this, or very little, and some of the players were not diligent in their training. We look as though we have come back lacking fitness and lacking organisation (which were both present to varying degrees in rounds 1-2). If some players did indeed coast, and they are some of the higher earners, that may well explain there being a divide in the groupl

Phil Gould's reaction:

“Is that for real? I can’t imagine any club would be stupid enough to give an ultimatum like that to its coach and allow it to be public. That’s just ridiculous. Two things with your coach, it’s either over or it’s not. You’re either sticking or you’re not. But the biggest thing that has to be done is the Broncos have to do a complete review and find out how they got in this position, particularly with their playing roster."

“What I see at the moment is senior players that have a pretty low care factor and I see young players that are just not ready for the NRL and have been exposed way too early. Physically and mentally they aren’t ready for the challenge of NRL."

“The key for the Broncos is to work out whether not so much whether they made the right decision having Anthony Seibold, but whether the club has given Anthony Seibold the support and the platform in which to operate. I keep coming back to the roster."

“The roster for a Broncos is not good enough. Now they have a lot of injuries to key players, that might make a difference when they come back. but I’ve got to look at the style of football they’re playing as well. there is so much wrong with what they're doing and suggesting they can win five of their last 10 is fantasy land.”

“Their last seven games in Sydney under Anthony Seibold they’ve been outscored 270-58. They’ve lost six of those games including an embarrassing 58-0 semi finals loss to the Parramatta Eels. As an organisation they’re not travelling well. The senior players aren’t doing the job. His career is now on the line.”

This is the problem with results only based focus. Attitude leads to results, how much effort you put in leads to results, results themselves don't lead to results.

I perform at my best knowing I am about to get sacked said no employee ever. If this is a player driven revolt against AS for whatever reason, then this decision just handed the laziest, most negative players the key to the club. We had a challenge before AS came in, if he is sacked, we will have a cultural nightmare to clean up..

Stupid thing is we will actually beat Melbourne this weekend [emoji33]

Mate if we come within 30 points of Melbourne it would be an absolute miracle.

Melbourne are ruthless, great at identifying weaknesses and are even better and exploiting them. Our right edge defence is going to have an absolute nightmare of a night Friday. Melbourne are everything we are not. They will not take their foot off our throats the entire 80mins. It’s like they still hold a grudge from 2006.

I’d put $50 on Ado Carr to score at least 3 tries

If this win 5 from 10 or your out is to be believed, then what is Seibolds mindset?
Does he stick with the group of players he has shown faith with, and who have won 3 from 10?. Or does he say **** it, enough is enough and drop Milford Boyd and anyone else who is not performing or at the very least putting in 100pct effort. It goes against what he had previously said in terms of bringing in more inexperienced players. If he wants to save his job then he doesn't really have any other choice than to change things. If he makes changes and gets his 5 wins, then he deserves another season.
Whatever he does I can only see a couple of wins at most but we just might compete more and have a happier playing group if he has the balls to make the changes.
