Sack Griffin/New Coach Discussion

Broncos won't have anything to do with Gallen full stop

Re: Round 11 - West Tigers vs Broncos - Pre-Match Discussion

Griffin could have easily kept Wallace around another year given he was still signed here till this season but decided to move him on in favour of Hunt.

Really not that different from Brooks and Marshall in that regard.

Not arguing it was pristine or anything, but he definitely rolled the dice with Hunt this season.

Too late a move particularly by then the season was pretty much dead for the Broncos, hardly a tough decision when it's at the stage your getting nothing from your halfback just like now with our 5/8th yet Hoffman remains(and this time around you can argue we actually have more on the line by sticking with Hoffman yet getting less by doing so), especially considering Hunt is up his 100th game tonight, how many of those were spent during 2012-2013 on the bench? Could he have kept Wallace on? Sure. Could he have also moved Wallace to 5/8th(where you could argue he was better suited for) or play Norman there during that time frame of 2012-2013 alongside Hunt with a real time frame in place for him(not just the odd game here and there) definitely, but he didn't.

It's really besides the point.

At the end of the day, Hook ended up backing Hunt for the full-time role in 2014 just like Potter backed Brooks this year.

Really neither are worth celebrating.

Don't forget Potter wanted to play Brooks last year but wasn't able to for salary cap reasons. He was only allowed to debut because the Dragons gave them dispensation.

Even though Potter is a shit coach, he always wanted to take Brooks to the dance. Griffin asked a number of girls to the ball and only after all showed no interest did he end up taking Ben Hunt.

Re: Round 11 - West Tigers vs Broncos - Pre-Match Discussion

But like Hunt, Brooks wasn't his first or even second choice - that would be Miller, Sironen, Moltzen, Anasta, Fulton...

Potter played 32 players above Brooks, if he wanted to play him so badly, he wouldn't have waited that long and more importantly would have kept track of that. Being unable to field him really shows how piss poor he was about blooding players than anything else.

No dice.

Brooks was 18.

Hoffman is ahead of half a dozen guys older than that.

So?

Re: Round 11 - West Tigers vs Broncos - Pre-Match Discussion

Potter is better at promoting players than Griffin.

Griffin is the worst coach in the NRL.

Even worse than Stuart?

In your opinion.

Hook promoted two 18 year olds last year, one of which has played more first grade than Brooksy but can't let the truth get in the way of a good rant.

Hook only promoted those players because he literally had no choices left. He's as conservative as they come, and his choices definitely show that.

Re: Round 11 - West Tigers vs Broncos - Pre-Match Discussion

That isn't true, there were other choices available and he made the call on both.

Oates was about as traditional of a debut as there was. He proved himself in the NYC and earned himself a full-time gig.

Drew was a virtual shot in the dark.

Credit where it's due.

"This shit really tastes better than the other shit." - The Griffin defence

'Hyperbole' - The critics.

Bennett is ok as a 3-5 year project, particularly if it brings back a winning culture into the club.

Biggest issue is how much would Walters will bring as a head coach.

I'd be inclined to let Walters, Locky look at halves. Keep Corvo. Bring in a forward hard-nut coach. Sort out mindsets in defence - piss of players that don't buy into that. Then go all out for a long term head coach solution to come in sometime over a 3-5 year time frame - like Paul Green.
