Ben Hunt - Appreciation Thread

I completely understand what you are saying. I did watch his passing very carefully last night and was quite impressed. Admittedly, it was one game. These suggestions come only out of frustration and with the understanding that our young guns are being withheld from 1st grade in fear of exposing them to retainment competition and increasing their market value. Therefore, we have little to choose from in terms of 5/8 for the rest of this season. Macca at 5/8 could work but is not a long term proposition as he clearly is our best option at dummy half for quite some time to come, therefore, i didn't suggest it. Kahu is obviously not forthcoming, otherwise I would suggest him. Hodges at 5/8th at this stage in his career is nothing more than a pipe dream. How many games has he played this year? Which leaves us with the eternal debate of Barba being moved to to 6. Most agree that this is our best option, but, it isn't happening. Instead we are stifling his support play by asking him to do too many things at once. Hence, I resort to questioning if Granville can play 5/8. We look dangerous with him on the paddock and there is literally no other place for him than bench utility - and even this requires a quantum leap of 'faithinhook' to use the bench properly... You are likely right, but this all just evidences a completely fucked up system at our club.

Mate, couldn't agree more!

Where can you find the Dally M leaderboard. I've looked everywhere and can't find it

Ben Hunt closes in on Dally M leaders Jarryd Hayne and Sam Burgess

BRISBANE halfback Ben Hunt has moved to within a point of joint Dally M leaders Jarryd Hayne and Sam Burgess after being awarded two points in the Broncos’ round 15 loss to the Warriors.

While Manu Vatuvei picked up the three points, possibly for his haircut alone, Hunt’s form didn’t dip only a few days after coming within a whisker of his State of Origin debut.

He now sits on 17 points with Hayne and Burgess both 18. Hayne’s remarkable streak of late came to end in the Eels loss to the Storm, the superstar fullback failing to pick up a point.

Instead his Queensland counterpart Billy Slater overcame his Origin disappointment with a two-try performance earning him the three points and Cameron Smith also keeping in touch with the leaders picking up two.

Having started the year in blistering fashion, Gareth Widdop has been quiet as the Dragons descended down the ladder but he has once again jumped up the leaderboard with a three point performance in the Dragons one point win over the Titans.

Hunt still has a lot to get right in his game but his rate of improvement has been amazing. It would be very interesting to see how he goes with a halves partner who can do something. He has so much pressure on him when it comes to the kicking because he is our only option and tbh it is not his strength.

I was critical of Hunt in the early stages of this year's season.....but you're right, his rate of improvement has been outstanding.

His long kicks are still letting him down and I still feel that his organisational skills aren't quite there yet. It would have been interesting to see how he would've handled SOO with the likes of JT and Cam guiding him.

His long kicking game isn't great because he doesn't have a big kick to begin with. He has to overkick to get distance which means he loses accuracy. Add to that the fact that he gets rushed everytime because he is our only kicking option.

What's impressed me most about Hunt is his passing game. It's phenomenal.

Dare I say it, he kind of reminds me of Lockyer in that regard.

His kicking game has been poor, but I don't think it's because he's no good at it - it's down to the fact that he's our go to kicker pretty much 90% of the time, and that's accentuated even more with McCullough out.

The biggest weakness with his kicking IMO, is when we're close to the line and looking to put in an attacking kick... the defence rushes him and he struggles with the execution due to the pressure from the opposition.

So assuming Hunt got at least 2 points last night maybe 3 if Carney got 2 then he would be in the lead

Last Broncos to win the Dally M was Alfie in the 90's im pretty sure

voting has gone behind closed doors now, so we will have to wait and see. I couldn't stand Hayne winning it again though

You know it'll happen. He is NSW golden boy.

If Ben Hunt keeps getting MOTM and picking up 2 points in losses he's a big shot of the Daly M.

Is Ben Hunt's long kicking game poor? Or is it the fact that he has to kick 98% of the time, sometimes under pressure, means he has more kicks and more chance for kicks to look bad and also more pressure because the defence knows he's going to kick? I mean, even Cooper Cronk and Cherry-Evans have at least one bad kick a game, but the fact that they don't have to kick as often it doesn't stand out.

How good does he have to play for people here to give him a break?

I'd love to see Benny win it but if Hayne isn't deserving of it, I don't know who is.

He's a great player but he's also a whiny grub.

The biggest issue with Jayne is if he is great but another player is better, golden boy still gets the 3 because of who he is.

I'd like to see Hoffman wear an armband every game that simply says 'WWLD'

Zero tackle saying sharks are going to go hard for Hunt! New it would happen. Just hope they don't throw so much cash at him he can't refuse...

We could have already signed him to a longer extension to avoid this stuff, but no always best to wait because we have such a plethora of great halves.

Great work from our administrators as usual. Best in the business

You're wrong.

Hunt's managment don't want to sign- his price is going up all the time. Broncos have started with McGuire.
