Semi Finals Discussion

Re: Finals Week Two Discussion

Sports bet. 1.02:1. Don't forget kids..."Gamble Responsibly/" (TM).

I'm surprised they haven't suspended betting yet :takdir:

Re: Finals Week Two Discussion

Hate to admit it...

chookies vs broncs defence within oppostion half = chookies win

Re: Finals Week Two Discussion

I'm expecting the Cowboys to be seriously dudded tomorrow night ... The NRL won't leave just one Sydney team in the comp ... In case the Broncos do the impossible and beat the referees (sorry, i mean the Rorters) next week.

Re: Finals Week Two Discussion

I'll be at the site of the royal screw job the referee's will do on us next week.

Don't be so pessimistic. This was always going to be the likely outcome tonight.

We've shown ourselves to be in the same league as the Roosters this year. One apiece, and prior to the Evans travesty, the Dogs were well in this.

With a weeks rest and home ground advantage, there's no reason we can't take it to them. A vocal crowd wouldn't hurt though.

Look forward to the fallout from the Evans decision...

"Bracing for impact"

He'll get away with it.

Re: Finals Week Two Discussion

Totally different game after that evans try. What an absolute disgrace btw! We've got this though. The roosters are going to have to produce a blinder if they are going to beat a fresh broncos at Suncorp in front of 55 thousand!

Re: Finals Week Two Discussion

If the Bulldogs fans are serious, they'll recognise their team was far from perfect themselves and were shown plenty of leniency in the ruck.

Yes, the Evans try was a joke but ultimately I never felt as if the Bulldogs were the better team at any stage. Even when they were winning the physical contest early, their work with the ball left plenty to be desired and it seemed like only a matter of time before the Roosters would weather the storm. The biggest problem with Canterbury was their execution and timing. The work from dummy half prevented the Bulldogs from ever getting any ascedency in the ruck and I thought the work from Mbye and Reynolds wasn't up to par. Their attack was very messy, with players standing in each other's way, accepting passes they were never committed to taking. They needed to be more patient with the ball, back their power and take advantage of the space when it would inevitably eventuate. Unfortunately it didn't work out.

On the other hand, it was business as usual for the Roosters. I thought they might struggle after suffering their first loss in 13 games, but to their credit, they bounced back and led the Bulldogs for the majority of the contest. I thought the forwards were very strong. Guerra and Cordner in particular made some great surges down the fringes and provided the Roosters with the impetus to score their points. While in the backs, SKD and Ferguson were a real handful for the Bulldogs defence and ensured that the Roosters were able to maintain their momentum during the second half.

However, the real difference for mine was Maloney and Hastings in the halves. I was impressed with Hasting's composure last week. He absorbed a lot of the Melbourne Storm's attack and didn't look out of his depth in spite of his inexperience. On the other hand, I thought Maloney was quite poor and if the Roosters were to win, he had to really step up. To his credit, I think he was close to the best player on the park and his form helped Hastings find another gear. For mine, it brings into question whether an underdone Pearce is even needed for the Prelim Final. After suffering a hamstring injury against the Broncos in Round 24, it will be interesting to see how he goes first game back in a sudden death Prelim Final in enemy territory at a ground he hasn't historically performed well on. If it was up to me, I'd consider playing him off the bench and starting with Hastings. That way, he can come into the game when fatigue has set and can utilise his running game which is a very underrated aspect of his play.

Back to the referees and honestly I struggle to understand why Cecchin was selected for this game. I thought out of all the referees last week, he was by far the worst referee of the bunch as the Sharks/Rabbits game was riddled with baffling calls one after the other. I question his capacity to be assertive and make common sense calls at key moments. While the Kane Evans try was a major talking point, I thought there were a number of infringements in the ruck that were let go which resulted in a very scrappy late and opening period to the contest. Has Cecchin correctly penalised the players, I believe the quality of the contest would have improved exponentially, but the referee let the players get away with too much.

Re: Finals Week Two Discussion

Nothing changed much from what I could see, chooks get away with laying in the ruck as much as any team, get away with more forward passes, get away with absolutely ridiculous play the balls ( which no commentator has picked up on publicly ) and if they lose Robinson squeals to the press about how his over the cap bullshit roster is hard done by and makes sure of the calls the next week.

We have our work cut out next week even if they play like they did tonight.

Re: Finals Week Two Discussion

The Roosters will have a bit of wind taken out of them after tonight despite the score that was a pretty brutal game with plenty of hard collisions, score really belies the intensity of the game. The Roosters were just far to good for the Bulldogs tonight in every facet of the game and never gave the Bulldogs a sniff of victory at any time. Was a real rock and diamond game I genuinely thought that we were going to have a very intense and gripping second half but after the Evans joke try the Roosters went up a notch and Canterbury never got close. Canterbury really missed Hodkinson he would've at least kept them in touch if those kicks went over which he would've done easily.

The Evans try; I thought that call was complete bullshit and will never understand how they could give that. I knew they were going to give after I saw Cummins say try and I knew that only a divine intervention could overturn it. I was cheering for the Roosters and I even I think that call was rubbish and I said it to myself when I saw it. Very happy it didn't influence the result as the Roosters were the far better team anyway.

Re: Finals Week Two Discussion

Well, the press conference was a bit disappointing.

I wanted to see Hasler fuming. Unfortunately, that did not happen.

Didn't even say whether he thought it was a try or not.

Then someone from the NRL must have been impersonating Hasler ... Because he takes a chunk out of refs even when they are 100% right.

Well they got beaten very convincingly and the Roosters were easily better than them. If the Evans try was the difference he would've gone off.

The Roosters were the better team and probably still would have won but to say that farce had no influence on the result is just not true. The Dogs completely buckled after that kick in the guts. I hate both teams but I do feel sorry for the Bulldogs for that howler, it completely broke their up until then impressive fight.

Re: Finals Week Two Discussion

The important thing is how the **** can the two guys charged with getting the decisions right get it wrong and are the only 2 in the world who can't see it.
Just fucking mind blowing.
