Honest Opinions

Please end the Hunt discussion there please, there's a thread just for it.

Now on topic, I think McCullough is average, and we should never have let Granville walk. At the very least there should be a hooker on the bench who can challenge him, right now he has no pressure on his position whatsoever.

Granville is a pidgeon-chested one season wonder who will fade into obscurity.

Hasn't played for us yet this season but David mead... never understood all the hype and excitement over his purchase. Great for deapth but by no means anything better then average.

I'm sure a lot of people disagree and rate him though?

I don't think anyone was really that excited about him signing to be honest, most people were just ok with it because A) He came for cheap and B) Would be good depth / injury cover. I expected him to start the season on the wing, but I've got no issue with him playing ISC, I do feel a little bit bad for him though, he seemingly came here expecting to play first grade for us.

In situations like this I would feel better if we just paid out his contract and let him go join another club where he can play, we've got enough depth to cover Fullback & Wing without him imo.

I'll throw a couple out...

- Daniel Vidot was a quality blue-chip signing that doesn't get his due because he didn't fit under Wayne's regime. He was one of the Broncos best during a trying season and deserves more credit.

- I've been watching the Broncos regularly since 2000, Michael Ennis is still the best dummy half I've seen week in, week out for the club. In fact, I thought he was head and shoulders the best Broncos player in 2008 and based on the replays I've seen that opinion still holds up.

- At the time, Ben Barba's form at fullback was a much bigger concern than Josh Hoffman being selected at five-eighth.

- Anthony Mundine actually played well in the '97 Grand Final and despite what the team-list read, played plenty of five-eighth. His public persona maybe ratchet, but he was a quality player in his day and the game would be greater if there were more players like him.

Has only 16 tries in his last 58 games=budget contract with the Broncos. Was lethal early in his career but with the loss of his above average pace, so went his effectiveness. Good guy to have as a spare though.

I agree that Vidot and Ennis were better for us than they were given credit for.
Barba was atrocious. There was a game very early in his time with us that we lost because the ball was stripped out of his hands in the in goal. For me that was a sign his attitude sucked and I would have dropped him immediately as a wake up call. It didn't happen and he sunk our season.

I disagree, McCullough WILL BE REPLACED if his game drops off by Waddell. WB actually rates Waddell and although he only played a handful of first grade games last year proved he was totally capable of replacing McC.

Agree with this one, although I think I was harsh on him at the time. He metres out of our own end were invaluable, he was arguably better than Oates at doing that, he went through a stage where he had 200+ running metres every game.

If he could catch and finish tries consistently he'd still be one of the best wingers in the game if you ask me. Hopefully gets some playing time at the Tits.

I went and checked, and was surprised to see that Ennis only played 25 games as starting hooker. It feels like it should have been a lot more.
Also Macca is our most capped starting hooker as of about 11 rounds ago.

I agree, we should kept Ennis around, he was always a favourite of mine too. Tough, competitive, and knows how to win. And fucking annoying when he's on the opposition.

Great idea for a thread @BuckietheBronc

One opinion I have is that if Maranta plays in the 2015 GF we would've won.

I don't blame Wayne either, he made a fantastic call on Oates and with Kahu fit he didn't have much of a choice.

However I think as fans we underrate short term investments like Vidot.

I also think Wayne lucked out on Kahu and feel bad for Hook who stuck by him through all the horrific injuries and never got to enjoy any success from it.

I don't know about that. Yes, Oates and Kahu were ahead in the pecking order, but we didn't have much depth in the backline, and Daniel would've been first cab of the rank if an injury struck a back.
I still cannot believe Wayne kept Maranta over Vidot... even if the former had his career year.

I'd imagine one was far easier to retain than the other, which is where the business aspect comes into it.

Another opinion...

Bennett is a better coach now than he was during his first stint at the club. We still might not win a premiership but our effort, attitude and general play have improved out of sight since his return.

Our young forwards at the club are shockingly overrated and quite frankly calls for them to be replacing battle hardened forwards at the current time are a joke. None of them are remotely ready to start and our established players don't get enough credit for what they do. Arguing over paying McGuire, Thaiday, Glenn, Blair and Boyd their fair value on the market is ridiculous. They are all top line players and you pay top line players top money. I don't give two ***** what these kids do in ISC or under 20s, until they do it week in week out in first grade, they shouldn't replace any established star at the club. And thinking towards the future is overrated, look at Gus' 5 year plan. How did that pan out

Also, Milford needs to learn how to direct the team if he wants the top dollar. Don't know too many clubs that will pay top dollar for a player that doesn't run the team. Pay out Hunt all you want, but Milf will be our senior half next year and he needs to take the reigns sooner rather than latter.
