2018 NRL Grand Final - Roosters vs Storm

Never been so happy to see the lads from Bondi win a game of footy. That was excellent, the expressionless face on Billy Slater at the end was fucking excellent.

The last 5 minutes were when the real Melbourne Storm showed up. Absolute grubs, and just showed why they deserve the hate they get.

Munster should be rubbed out for double digits for that.

Cooper Cronk, even doing **** all, he did more than our halves have done all year. So happy he doesn't wear purple now, looked really emotional after the match, hope he's able to sort this injury, but I have a feeling he'll call it quits now.

I'd 100% be behind this. Use future wages as coach to entice him. He can play HB if we can't find one, **** it.

After tonight’s gf I think the real general and puppeteer is cooper Cronk. Get him as a halves coach at least. Having such a professional around the club would be so invaluable. Milford needs a mentor badly. no ifs or buts about it. Not just in football but a life mentor as well. Cronk is the man.

Cronk did stuff all. Roosters dominated Melbourne in the forwards and Keary ran off the back of it.

They released Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Mitchell Pearce, Aidan Guerra, Kane Evans, Liam Knight & Paul Carter and only brought in those two.

That seems pretty reasonable to be honest. The Roosters cop a lot of shit for cheating the cap, but the realistic approach is that they just manage it better than anyone else, including us. You wouldn't see them throwing $800k at a utility player like Bird, or a slow and old Fullback like Boyd, they're smarter than that.
2 $1 million players and theyd have to fill the other spots with AT MINIMUM base wage players. So thatd mean those players would have a combined wage of $2.4 million. Pearce you could say maybe $800,000, 3 of them mid range (average of $400,000) and the other 2 would be base wage. They are bang on the money ASSUMING, the new players they brought in (highly rated juniors) were brought in on minimum wage. Also, critchon stated they offered to have hin there this year. Space for a $600,00-$800,000 player. Also next year, they have ryan hall and brett morris coming in lol. Come on now, maths isnt my steong point but when you add a larger number then you subtract you get a bigger number. Year after year their squad adds better players, so when will they have to release better players without the ability to replace them?

Also, 2-3 of those players you mentioned were released early.. they would have had to pay out part of their contract as part of their own cap, unless of course they “coincidentally” found drugs on them.

What was cam smith trying to do on the very last play chasing friend down the field?

They're losing Blake Ferguson, Ryan Matterson and potentially Cooper Cronk to retirement for next season.

Cooper cronks wage would still be on their salary cap if he retires.... so they get critchon (a highly pursued second rower who they won in a bidding war with the rabbitohs), the highest regarded english winger of the last decade and still current international, and brett morris-one of the bulldogs best players and 2016 australian player..... and they lose, a player who was at the time of his last contract (the amount theyd gain on the salary cap by not re-signing him) a perennial off field drama magnet who most nrl clubs would not touch at the time, and a player who was making his way into 1st grade and was not highly regarded and was regarded as a bench utility... seems legit...

Cronk was incredibly fortunate. The Storm played so bad (15 errors) that he was barely put under any pressure in defence. Also the Roosters forwards and back 3 were incredible which meant Keary had acres of space and Cronk wasn't pressure to do anything.

I think Ferguson is better than either Hall or Morris, especially this year, but two of them is better than one of him, especially if the other winger is Tupou, who is either shit or average.
Chrichton is a massive signing, if Cronk plays on, his short pass to Chrichton could rip left edges apart.
Then insanely talented young guys like Manu, Mitchell, Radley etc. are 1 year older with GF experience.

If the Roosters are mentally up to it, they should be able to go 2 in a row.

The fact you're using Morris & Hall's credentials of the last decade to justify why they're going to cost so much on the cap in 2019 is laughable. They're both in their final year or two in the game. Morris was forced out of the Bulldogs and would be on close to minimum wage at the Roosters, nobody else wanted him, he was likely coming to the Roosters to play second grade until Ryan Hall tore his ACL. But wait, Hall is the highest regarded winger in the Super League! That's roughly as significant as the highest regarded point guard from the Brisbane Bullets joining the Golden State Warriors.

It's okay though, they're only losing Ferguson & Matterson, an off-field drama queen and a poorly rated bench utility, absolutely not the Dally M winger of the year / Australian representative within the last 12 months & a player who was in contention for Origin and considered one of the best young edge back rowers in the game until suffering a bad head knock & broken wrist a month before Origin 1.

I have no idea why I'm even bothering replying, this is a debate about a subject which I have zero interest in. I just think people who swear the Roosters are salary cap cheats every year and no different than the flogs on social media who say the exact same about us every year.

Youre having a laugh right? Morris and hall on mear minimum wage? They are well past their primes but come on now. And then you go on to talk about what ferguson and matterson are THIS YEAR. Did they sign their last contract at the rposters this year did they? Because thats how much it is on the cap, it doesnt go on future contracts so what him being a dally m winger this year has to do with it im not sure.

We have a squad that was tipped to finish 5th-12th this year, just like nearly every year bar 2016 (post gf). The roosters have a squad every year bar maybe 1 or 2 years in the last decade that is tipped to win the premiership. No lull’s, no juniors filling holes that arent quite ready, no having to sell players to fit under the cap, no getting outbidded for their best players. And coincidentally, who was that bloke on stage again representing the roosters? I could have swarn he had a job at the nrl at some point, what was it again?

No way Hall is coming out to Australia from Super League for anything less than a decent contract.

The Roosters success is built around paying players not that much under the cap and being able to find TPAs. Full stop.

Once again you're just making stuff up to suit your agenda, it's sad to watch.

No juniors? Mitchell, Manu, Radley, Liu, Napa, Cordner, Friend, Aubusson and others throughout the season. Not selling players to fit under the cap? We've already been over the 7 or 8 players they've lost in the last 24 months, most of which are current or recent representative players.

I don't know where this delusion is coming from.

Roosters have signed over $3M worth of players within 2 seasons. Probably even just close to 3 mil in just 3 of the players acquired for this season and the next. People were up our asses when we just signed Bird.

Tedesco is an amazing player. He's the biggest reason - rather than Cronk - why the Roosters were able to improve from a prelim loss to a GF win this year. Big upgrade from Michael Gordon (who has moved on from 2 clubs who won the Premiership the year after he left now - Sharks in 16 and Roosters in 18).
