Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

I'd be done with the sport if that happened, and I watched pretty much every game this year (mainly for SC). Souths, rorters, Melbourne get so many leg ups it's incredible.

EDIT: I don't agree with Souths having to carry his cap if he retires, but those are the rules which they knew when they signed him to a stupid 5 year deal with pre-existing injuries. He shouldn't even be allowed to give up his money GI style because it's obvious that he won't lose out on cash.
Imagine loosing probably the most promising back row talent that the games ever seen to a team that shouldn’t have the cap space to offer anything and the nrl lets it happen.... that would be it for me.

The Eels would be pissed as well after the Watmough situation.

I'd be bitterly dissapointed to lose Oates, but if it comes down to him or Fifita then sadly, it's just no contest.

I think knowing we're losing a guy like Oates simply because we're unable to come up with a solution to our Boyd and AM9 problems really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Surely Boyd can see how that plays out quite badly in the media too.
I wouldn't care at all about losing Oates. He's basically a SKD type player now. Can do some good things, but mainly just error prone.

Eels can be pissed all they want, Watmough's was a pre-existing condition.

In Sam's case, it doesn't qualify as that. Souths do have the right to apply for cap relief here.

I still dont get why if a player has to retire for medical reasons the club has to carry his contract, and why it should be any different to a player just retiring.
It's to stop people taking advantage of it. "You're only worth $500k a season but here is a 4 year $350k deal and you can medically retire next year with your shitty shoulder."

Retiring would mean not getting paid, so players wouldn't do that. THey will just sit on the sideline if injured.

Exactly! there will be a lot of teams monitoring this, It will turn the nrl into even more of a joke especially when I saw Inglis playing footy the other month on instagram how the **** does that work? I thought he was medically retired?

No, he wasn't..

I believe a player that retires for medical reasons has a right to be paid out in full. In this case Sam would get about $4m for retirement under medical reasons.

If a player can retire medically and then also be paid out for preexisting injuries without it sitting on the cap... then rich clubs can just sign older players to ridiculous long term contracts knowing they won't get hit hard on the cap... basically Sam would get $5m for one year and Souths wouldnt be wearing the remaining 4 years.

Rorters could've signed Cronk for 4yrs at $500k knowing he would still get $2m, but only have to play 2yrs

A player can retire whenever they want without a payout, but that would mean Sam walking away from $4m

Not medically fit to play professional sport, you’re not saying I’ll never walk or run again.

Watmough was pre-exsisting. Same as Stewart and Matai- Nathan Ross and Trent Hodgkinson weren’t and they got approved.

Don’t sign injured old players.

Valuable advice. Can we have THAT painted on the training room walls

Yeah, thats why we are fucked because we signed Boyd whilst out with serious hamstring issue, and signed Gillett while out with serious back injury. Good one Whitey...

No wonder the players all like Paul White, he gives them cushy as **** deals.

SB should have a chat with Darius. He doesn’t need to retire just because his body can’t handle first grade anymore. He can just jog around at half pace, missing tackles and generally stinking the joint up for the duration of his deal.

Wouldn't do that to Crowe though considering the family connection wink wink

Is anyone able to post the article from the DT where a club is apprarently going to throw $1mill at Fifita?
My guess is the rorters, dogs or eels, but I cannot open it..
