2019 Ashes discussion

Not entirely sure what you mean.

I've wanted Wade back in the team at certain points over the last 12 months, but I don't think I've ever said I wanted him in the team for an Ashes series in England. I wanted Marnus at 6 for this game and this series, always have. I mentioned his name a few pages back as someone to look at, but ended up settling on Bancroft & Labuschagne as the 2 batsmen I'd select.

I think the team is pretty much spot on to be honest. Yes, you could certainly make an argument for Labunger/Harris/Burns but they also all suck against anything moving slightly off the pitch, air or seam.

The fact is, Bancroft played an unbelievable innings in the warm up game (Smith-like in fact) and Wade has been in irresistible form for a while now, so understand why they have given him a shot, though he has been on fire so long, he is probably on a downward trend poor guy.

Smiths already the captain of the team. That knock last night was a captains knock. I don't care if he has the arm band on, he is the real captain of the side and should be given free reign over his bowlers today. Paine's a glorified babysitter.

Paine's shot was horrid. If we had someone who was prepared to dig in at 7, like Carey, we'd have probably scored closer to 350.

ANOTHER wrong decision, Burns should've been given LBW to Lyon. Should've reviewed but still, this is a joke.

The umpires right:wrong ratio is quite incredible really

At least the umps are consistently inconsistent for both sides, certainly can't claim cheating, just absolute blindness.

When you bowl a wicket keeper and you don’t bowl a guy who started his career as a bowler...

There were quite a few questionable decisions by Paine last night. He made a lot of fielding position strange calls, took the pressure off as the bowlers started getting on a role, etc.

Wade's bowled before in Tests, Hughes took the gloves for an over. He is actually pretty good. He rolled Qld for three wickets 12 months ago.

He is quicker than your average part-time seamer, he isn’t pretty good. He also bowled rubbish last night.

We conceded a million runs down to 3rd man and Paine didn’t put anyone down there. I’d be fine if he was dropped, not that it’ll happen

35 play and misses from Burns + an LBW not given. Good on him, but damn it’s a weird game.

Our Darius ?

Goodness, yes. How have we missed this comparison before?

Well, this is game with almost two pitches - when it is sunny, nothing for the bowlers at all. As soon as it gets overcast, the ball becomes a bomb.

Good bowling by Siddle and Lyon to get us back into the game here. Surprised Patto hasn't come back on vs the tail.

Paine missed another trick with that, his captaincy this test has been appalling.

And it took them like 60 runs into a partnership to realise tailenders don't like bouncers. Really poor captaincy so far.
