I have long said I would have picked and stocked with Burns, but given that didn’t happen, the reason for picking Bancroft isn’t that hard to see. In the pre-test match, he batted like Smith has here in that second innings. He won selection in that trial basically.

It isn’t hard to see why he was selected. He’s a favourite of Langer. Any other player with an average barely touching 30 would not even get a look in. Especially considering a player with an average of 40 and 4 hundreds and a last up score of 180 can’t make it.

Wade deserves a run in the side given his FC form, the same can't be said for Bancroft and Paine. Siddle was good given the conditions, and has bowled extremely well on green decks, but I dno if I'd play him at Lords. Harris would go OK at Lords given Aussie batsmen usually bat well on it compared to other English tracks, but I'd honestly just open with Khawaja and get Marnus in the side due to his County form.

EDIT: I have us as favourites for this test if Root keeps bowling Ali from one end.

Coming home in May and missing county games didn't help. He would have got seven games if he wasn't sick.

I never took notice of the fallout really. Just had a quick read and it’ll be 2020, not 2021.
