POST GAME [2022 State of Origin - Game 3] QLD vs NSW

Singin' Aye Aye Yippee Yippee Aye

Singin' Aye Aye Yippee Yippee Aye Aye Yippee Yippee Aye Aye Yippee Yippee Aye!

I remember a game back in 2007. Queensland had the series wrapped up and in the first tackle of the game Dallas Johnson knocked himself out. Over the course of the game I believe they lost Tate, Inglis and Myles before eventually succumbing to the Blues. Had the Maroons won, it would have been the gutsiest victory of all-time.

Tonight, they pulled it off with the series on the line.

They went into the game and lost Munster and Taulagi before a ball was even kicked. Then in the opening exchanges of the game they lose Cobbo & Collins which causes a major reshuffle and on top of that they had to come from behind to win it.

It's just sensational and so well deserved.

To me that performance had the legendary spine's finger tips all over it. The early kicks was a trademark of Cameron Smith and while they got it wrong in Game II, tonight they nailed it and the kick chase was unbelievable from the Maroons.

I'll admit during the game I was disappointed with DCE's under-cooked grubbers close to the line but in hindsight it was a smart each way bet. At the very least the kicks were never going dead and the Blues were going to have to work it basically from their own goal-line giving the Maroons the advantage. It was a smart tactic and it played a key role from the Maroons.

I thought everyone did their job but the spine led the way. Cherry-Evans' was in everything, Ponga brought all the steps and played with the intensity he's often accused of lacking and both Hunt and Grant backed themselves at key moments. Special shout out to Dearden too who was just class in everything he did. He was brilliant in defence, his try-saver then try-assist was a huge moment in the game and he never switched off at any stage. I'd almost put Ponga's try down as a Dearden TA as well considering it came off his half-break.

I loved the physicality Queensland played with and when the Blues did get their noses out infront they were able to hang in and jag that try. Capewell had a few forgettable moments but when the team really needed him most he stepped up to the plate and scored a try he really had no right to score.

Ponga was a well deserved Man of the Match, but I'm so glad Ben Hunt got to score that try. A lesser man would have let 2015 get the better of him, but tonight he'll go down for that do or die try and there wasn't a more deserving player.

It's going to be difficult to rate this series win. It's easily right up there with the best like 1987, 1991, 1995, 2001, 2006, 2012, 2017 etc.
2020 👋

Cameron Smith wasn't a whole lot better as Ben Hunt scorched away for the game sealing try

As a QLD fan, I was cheering with him but it wasn't very professional of him
It just shows the lack of integrity channel 9 has. Yes we know explayers will have their biases and you expect that (not from the main game caller though), but to ok the assistant coach and football manager of an nrl team to commentate on games is pretty ridiculous.

Saying that, fox is not much better, having a player manager host nrl360 where he hypes up his own players is pretty ridiculous too.

I reckon we embrace the bias.

Every game should have a play by play commentator and a home team commentator. No away team commentators needed because everyone gets the same amount of home games.

Of course Klien favoured the blues with some of those calls and if you want irrefutable proof of how he advantaged them you just need to go back and watch the tape about ten minutes from full time. Not sure who it was who was tackled in the blues ten metre zone but they looked like getting up for a quick play the ball. Cleary was offside and moves forward to the ruck and you can hear Klien call Cleary out of it. In actual fact he calls his name twice. He calls a warning "Nathan!" and when he sees that Cleary is still intending to flop on the player he calls "Nathan!!" in an even sterner voice to warn him again. Cleary though proceeds to flop on the tackled player, but Klien decides to take no action at all.

Full credit where it is fully deserved.

DCE, whilst it turned out that his destiny was not to be a major part of that incredible Maroons dynasty, he has now undoubtedly been the Captain and a significant part of a couple of our most incredible, against the odds, series wins of all time.

Take a bow mate. Then go and take another one, because you’ve earned it.

This is how the Warriors games typically work and to be honest it’s proven to be largely insufferable.

You need an even split. There is very little evidence to suggest anything else works.

But then we get Cameron Smith being overshadowed by whichever NSW dork they put in the box and it isn’t an even share

Just goes to show you how bullshit the no fight rule is. When was the last time a punch sent someone off on a cart? That Melbourne grub king hitting a Tiger way back in the early 2000's? The hits that Cobbo and Collins took to the head are more severe than a front on punch ever will be.

Just like everything the NRL does, it's a face saving move.
I’d love to agree with you from an entertainment perspective, but it’s 2022 and in basically no other circumstance is striking another person on camera or in front of witnesses not a criminal offence.

It’s not face saving, it’s simply holding footballers to the same standard as any other citizen.

We’re Queensland, it’ll never be even. If you support us then you really do just need to make peace with that.

NSW fans have been indulged with 40+ years of heavily biased commentary and coverage, so the whining we’d have to put up with if they ever had to get a taste of being on the other side of it simply isn’t worth it.

Let them have the media bias, we’ll just keep having the wins.
