TV companies prefer us playing the low rated game on a week that gets low ratings anyway.

Fair and balanced competition not controlled by TV executives profit margins yes.

I wonder how far back in years we have to go to see us playing the NZ game not in a origin period.

I checked the last 10 years... it would be 2019 (NZ game in May - SOO 5th June). and then in the 6 games after that, only 1 has been in NZ...
