2024 pre-season discussion: Pre-season Premiers

Bringing back TPJ would not be a positive.

He's wildly inconsistent and has a shit attitude. When he retired barely anyone reached out to him. That says something.

He doesn't like being told what to do and that's something he will have to put up with at the club. That's not going to change.

Even for a fraction of what he was earning at the Bulldogs, he's not worth it. We have young forwards coming through that will provide more value and that's who we should be focusing on.

Anyone else notice that Vossy almost never commentates our games? Hmmm....
Happy about that. Just my opinion that our club is not in need of his incessant pretentious and embellishing calls. We are quite capable of showcasing the real thing. Yes I am well aware I have a volume control that I do turn down when he or Roach start grinding out their bullshit. Sorry - just my two bobs worth.

I can put up with pretty much every rugby league commentator after cricket season. That's like your tolerance pumping iron at altitude with covid.

It's shocking how much the commentary on games has deteriorated. I watched some 90s games recently and it was pretty good.

It was always about the game (not some random TV show channel 9 or fox were trying to flog that week) and not other random shit that has nothing to do with the game.

If the ref made a mistake, they said so and moved on. They did not bitch about it for another 15 minutes or complain that they should change this rule or that rule.

It may be unfair but it started to deteriorate when Gould started commentating regularly.

I think the reason the nrl consistently makes rule changes now is a knee jerk reaction to something a commentator had said and bitched about.

Totally agree. I might be wrong on this, but I have Gould at ground zero in pissing all over the floor about the refereeing. Every commentator these days seems to think his job is grading the referee, and bignoting his own interpretation of the rules, rather than commenting on the game. In the olden days, you yelled at the TV every time a decision went against you, not really caring whether you were wrong or right, but ultimately accepting the game sometimes comes down to the rub of the green. Commentating was about bigging up the drama, but not whinging.

Fatty gets it right: cracks a joke about it when it looks like a howler, and then moves on.

I only really watch Fox but the thing that annoys me is they will have someone like Ennis commentating a Cronulla game, explain to me the logic behind that? If you’re a fan of the team playing Cronulla, it’s a mute job.

The Fatty and Smith combo for Broncos games is my favourite.

Uh oh.

Patty:
“There’s a bit of noise around Tevita. He’s just moved back to Brissy and training down at Logan. We are close, Tevita, myself and Payne. I’d love to see him back at the Broncos. He retired and I think he’s enjoying his challenges with boxing, but we’ll see what happens.”
“Flegler is a big loss, he’s become one of the best front rowers in the game. Our marquee signing Fletcher Baker has plenty of skill, is a big body and has been at a really good club. He comes into the mix and Marty, Corey Jensen, Xavier Willison and Kobe Hetherington are all rep standard footy players that are pushing Payne and myself."
“‘Capes’ leaves, which is a big hole in experience, but you get Brendan Piakura whose potential is endless. Someone will step up. You manage it and move on. People will step up and do a job for us.”
“Kevvie hasn’t had this chat with me about moving from lock to prop, but you guys are having this chat in the media. I don’t care, I’ll do whatever’s best for the team. I’ve enjoyed my time in the 13 jersey. I feel like I’ve worked on my craft and I’ve got a lot of growth to do there. I’ve got a pretty high opinion of Kobe Hetherington too, so whatever’s best for the team is best for the team. Whatever Kev says goes. I won’t be arguing with the big fella.”

Patty spent the morning with Olympic swimmer Mack Horton, outside the Nobby’s Beach Surf Club with the Albatross Nippers, a program designed for children with special needs:

“The kids love the water and so do I. It’s a pretty exciting program they’ve got. I’m loving it. It’s cool to see how far these kids have come on their journeys. The opportunity for these kids to come here into a safe space environment and be themselves is great.”

I just saw kevvie in the northbound bp service centre near morayfield. I said "bring it home for us kevvie" and he said "will do brother".
GF winners incoming. I like to think I am the missing piece of the puzzle from last year

It is an interesting proposition moving Patty to prop. He has been phenomenal at 13 but an:

8. Patty
10. Payne
13. Kobe

Is REALLY strong.
This is the problem with having an outstanding player; you want them to play every position.
