Australian summer of cricket 2009-10

Very happy to see that Watson still doesn't have a hunge against his name icon_smile

LOLZ! Oh look, it's a length ball on middle stump, I'm going to try a wild pull shot and get bowled.

That's why I'm a douchebag. LOLZOLZOLZOLZ.

Geez the Windies arent keen to push the score along are they. Go for runs and make a game of it

So the aussies need 330 to win from 81 overs...4+ per over.

Can they do it?

And credit to Chris Gayle. A sensational knock from someone who is renowned for being flashy and giving their wicket away. To dig in and carry bat for 165 runs, sensational. Shane Watson take note.

Take note all the Aussie batsman - no one's got a 100 yet.

North gone.

5 down with 25 odd overs left.

Surely they can't lose to the Windies...

And still.

5/139 now. Pitiful display of batting from the Aussies but good fielding and bowling from the Windies.

I hope they knock the tail over to be honest. Might actually force some changes.

I'm not sure how low we would have to sink for the man-love to evaporate and/or the selectors to grow a brain. Either way, what changes would you make Coxy?

1. Drop Hussey. I know he's had a fairly reasonable 6 months or so, especially in the one day game, but he spends so many innings just poking and prodding and looking so uncomfortable there. Not what you need from a number 4.
2. Drop Haddin. We can't afford to give away 13 byes a game (that's how many Haddin conceded this Test alone).
3. Move Watson from opening the batting down to 5.
4. Clarke to 4.
5. P. Hughes or P. Jaques to open (whichever is scoring more runs domestically at the moment...haven't checked the stats - but I do like Hughes)
6. C. Hartley or G. Manou to keep.

Nothing that drastic really.

1. Hughes
2. Katich
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. Watson
6. North
7. Hartley (we need a QLDer there! ;-)
8. Johnson
9. Hauritz
10. Siddle
11. Hilfenhaus

12. Bollinger

Obviously Hilfy is injured, but hopefully he'll be back soon. At least he provides some swing.

I love that side. Great choice.

Swap Siddle for Bollinger and I would have the same side, Siddle is a nuffy.

Heading for a draw. This is pathetic. It's like kissing your sister.

I propose they introduce 2 Golden Six overs.

Each team picks 6 batsmen, and 6 bowlers.
Captains toss to decide who bats first.
Bowler 1 bowls 1 ball to Batsman 1, and so on.

If Batsman 1 hits a 6, then batsman 1 of the other team has to hit a six, or the other team wins.

If after all 6 batsmen and bowlers have been through for both teams, the draw stands.

I call it the Gallop Method.

Did you expect anything different on a 5th day Adelaide pitch though? It was well thought before this test even started that the team who batted first would find it very hard to lose!

Not really, especially with a mediocre spinner and an even more mediocre captain. For the Windies 2nd innings that is.

and a mediocre batting line up that just doesn't want to apply itself in the Aussie 2nd innings.

Dougie has got to be a mainstay from now on. I really rate him.

He just doesn't let up. Quite accurate left armer. Great energy too.

Are you quite finished?

Coxy = hot air balloon.

You've already got my vote for Most Agenda Driven. This is the millionth time that you've implied/mentioned or blantantly expressed that Punter should be dropped and a magnitude of other wild ideas.

You should deadset be given the Chairman of Selectors job. It would certainly be interesting and very proactive to say the least to the typical Australian cricket follower. Would be interesting to see if any players are retained after Coxy has put a nuke through the joint. [icon_wink

Perhaps you could also get to the bottom of the extremely injust Hughes dropping. If you could work that one out, you'd be my hero.

Agenda maybe. It's an undeniable fact that Ponting is the worst Australian captain since Kim Hughes. He has no idea how to break established partnerships. His field placings are amateurish. He goes on the defensive more than Border used to.

His early success after Waugh was entirely down to having McGrath and Warne at his disposal. Australia's attack is largely popgun these days and Ponting is incapable of increasing their effectiveness with field placings and plans for opposition batsmen.
