Barba vs Boyd

Re: The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

Barba at the right weight and rehab on the ankle if that's still a problem, we'll be 10x better than Boyd next year. I hope he gets his form back next year I rate him. Disappointing to hear Bennett say that boyd is better than every fullback is bullshit. Milford has a really good kicking game his game against the eels was a real great kicking display against Hayne. And hunt will benefit of having a 5/8 that can kick. So this is my back line

1. Barba
2. Kahu
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Vidot/reed/maranta
6. Milford
7. Hunt

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

I really hope Molo and Ofahengaue get some decent time in first grade next year, especially Molo.

Re: The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

Just for anyone who wanted to know the pre season starts on the 22nd of October.

Poor bastards don't get much of a break.

Then again, I'm sure they hit the piss, eat dirty and catch up on a lot of TV and video games during those 4 weeks.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

WB said he'd love to see Darius Boyd at the Broncos next year. That does not mean he will be there. I would love to see myself looking at my bank balance after winning lotto next year. That does not mean I will win lotto. WB clearly wants Boyd to return and play but unless you all believe he has mysterious powers it will be up to others. Firstly it will be up to Boyd and his partner with many unanswered questions still to be resolved. Boyd may not even play anywhere. He may decide to head overseas, away from the pressure and expectation. He could also stay in Newcastle although that does seem least likely.

If he does return I will look forward to him being a great contributor but I cannot see the Broncos offering him very much. I don't care what AP writes, 750 k a year lol, the Broncos are a private company, a business and will not spend that sort of money on a fullback/ winger. Those decisions are out of WBs control and if you think he has a say, you clearly are in cloud cuckoo land.

Re: The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

I don't know whether to be happy that Wayne Bennett actually said something of substance in an interview today or whether to shake my head at what he actually said.

I'll go for the latter. Oh my ... what on earth have we done in hiring him.

Oink !

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

If he isn't good enough to force his way into the team by then and he wants to look elsewhere then good luck to him I say.

I highly doubt that will be the case and believe we'll see him in the first grade side within the next two years but if things don't pan out then so be it.
Only if you operate under the assumption that WB would drop Boyd... tall order!

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

This is the first time I've actually watched the video and not just taken the word of all the posters crying that the sky is falling.

It didn't even seem like Boyd coming here had been discussed yet. Sure he probably will but its far from the certainty that people on here would have you believe. Maybe Wayne was just talking up one of his good mates who is in a bad place right now and has no clear future.

It would be awesome if you dropped the personal attacks to everyone who doesn't look to WB as the messiah.

If you actually believe Wayne will have no control over player recruitment and retention, you're well beyond cloud cuckoo land...

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Boyd could be on either end of a good/bad signing scale depending on where he'd play.

If he played fullback, he'd be a rubbish signing. Half of our 25 man squad are fullbacks. That's 12.5, with Hoffman being 0.5.

If he played wing, it would be a good signing. All of our wingers have their own major flaws. Boyd is a great finisher, good defensively, strong at returning kicks and reliable.

Then he'll be a rubbish signing ... Bennett said Boyd will be his fullback

I might be wrong but didn't he just say Boyd was the better player?

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Maybe he will come to the Broncos with a better mindset and play the best footy of his career.

Yeah I've been thinking that a move back to his home state which would make him more comfortable and happy could make him return to his best.

I think boyd will be a great signing. If he finds the form he had at the dragons you will be eating your words. Here you were always telling the anti griffin people to find some positives, and you carry on like this, Wayne obviously knows his shit and is not just some benevolent dictator. Your WB hate just seems a bit hypocritical chief.

I mentioned it a few months ago, but don't write off the Titans securing Boyd.

Re: The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

I feel like everyone is seriously trying to downplay Barbas 2012 just because it doesn't fit their Boyd pushing agenda.

The Bulldogs forward pack didn't help Barba score half a dozen 100m+ tries. The Forwards didn't make his line breaks out of nowhere, or make him do his chip/chases. Yes having a dominant forward pack helped his game, but most of what he did was just that - him doing it all. Every kick return you had the feeling he was going to run the length of the field and score, and often he did. Even when he was playing injured and with off field dramas last year he still scored more tries than anyone in our team and most other teams.

so we should move one of the best fullbacks and players in the game out of the position he has played and carved up in for 2 years to a position in which he has played a handful of games and has been average to slightly above average in, just to hope he'll be better and so we can fit Boyd in?

No thanks, I'll take playing the most dangerous player in the game in the most dangerous position in the game over that any day.

The speed of the play the ball is irrelevant in how much time the first receiver gets before being confronted with defenders. It is 100% to do with the dummy half service, and McCullough is one of the worst in that department. How a first grade hooker can play 100+ games and still not be able to pick up and pass in one motion boggles the mind.

Hoffman scored 15 tries while Barba only scored 10 from 17 appearances and most certainly was nowhere near as prolific as others. In fact Corey Oates was arguably better with only one less try but in half the amount of appearances ! Talk about downplaying things, you just make stuff up ! Barba was ordinary yet you just blatantly lie to support your argument....
