Barba vs Boyd

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Lolz. So funny to see Huge call someone wrong and then call Hodges a useless fullback, all the whole ignoring the fact we have Milford and Barba as fullback options.

Think this is like a presidential debate, but instead of running for president AP and Huge are running for the most agenda driven award.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

First it was "Wayne Bennett doesn't play favourites, he won't bring Boyd to the Broncos because we already have 4 fullbacks. If he did he would play wing", then he unsurprisingly makes his intentions if bringing Boyd and having him play fullback known and it changes to "he will only pay him less than half his current wage anyway" lol.

Boyd, the coaches golden child, the coach who decides who we make offers to and how much, will not offer him a contract that is less than half of what he signed him to for the last 2 contracts. Why do people think he will? As you guys keep pointing out, hes a current Qld and Aus rep who won a Clive Churchill medal, so he's worth big money. It's like his dad is the one who decides his wage, and his dad clearly is looking out for his best interests by guaranteeing him a job and first choice position everywhere he goes.

Boyd will sign with us for ~$750k a year.

Boyd's intrinsic value, on those criteria, is overstated.

Clive Churchill - in an illegal/tainted/boring year without the best team in the comp playing. They wouldn't have beaten the Storm.
SOO success - completely due to Lockyer, Thurston and Inglis. Leon Bott would have scored his tries.
Australian jerseys - by default.

He's solid, but we've got dickloads of "solid' wing and fullback stocks.

We need a fucking 6.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

I would take Boyd is he signs for ~$300k/yr under the cap. To do that, he'll need a chunk of 3rd party stuff, which is likely what they're working on right now.

The other thing is, a fair whack of Boyd's money would be going to support his grandmother. There is no way the Broncos could pay for that and not have it included in the cap... but... could Bennett? There is an argument to say that Boyd is effectively family to him, and that Boyd will struggle to get his current value with any club, so could Bennett stump up the cash for Boyd Snr Snr's care, and it not be included in the cap because he'd be doing it regardless of what club Boyd plays for?

There is absolutely no way the NRL will allow a coach to pay for a players family member's care and not include it in the cap... It would open a can of worms...

maybe Greenberg would allow it if it was the Bulldogs, but no other club

We need a ****ing 6.

We have a 6, names Anthony Milford. He played all juniors in the halves and was recruited to be a half. Unless we don't get Boyd he will be at 6 and even if we don't get Boyd, Bennett had said he likes Hodges at fullback

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

i've said it before and i still think boyd is not going to end up at the broncos. this is just a hunch from the way things have played out so far with bennetts quitting and boyd in rehab a week later, etc.

bennetts "boyd is better than them all" is nothing more than a gee up to the squad to me. this is what we've wanted. players will earn their positions and not get picked under griffins 'favourites' scheme.

even the interest in packer (which is obviously real) is also saying to the current forwards that they need to harden up and bring more aggression.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Newcastle has already made very clear that they will not pay a cent towards his contract if he decides to action his get out clause.

Under the current salary cap rules, whichever club takes him, will have to at least pay his current contract value ($600K p/year), regardless of what the "Broncos financial administration" thinks of it.

There is no justification for this, when we have Milford, Barba, Hoffman, Hodges and both Nikorimas under contract... absolutely NONE!

I hope this is indeed a psych move by Bennett to get everyone on notice and make them work harder to earn a spot in the squad.

A statement 1 month before pre-season training has started.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

So Boyd says to Newcastle, I'm staying and taking the 600k. Newcastle says, are you up to it ? How do you feel, will you be able to put in your best efforts ? Boyd...don't know ,maybe, but you know depression is a tough thing so ,maybe.....

Isn't it possible in that case that Newcastle would say, maybe we would be better off without Boyd but we can't sack him because we would still have to pay him out. What if we let him go and give him 200 k ? We would still be 400 k better off and he could **** off to the Broncos

I didn't forget Barba. He was tried at fullback and found wanting. You could play him in the front row, find him wanting and still call him a front rower, same thing at fullback. If, and I stress if Boyd returns we will have two legitimate choices for fullback, a situation most coaches strive for in every single position. What agenda do I have champ ? I deal with current realities and not hysterical hypotheticals . I use facts and logic combined with wisdom from having seen and lived a lot. I don't make up lies to support arguments. If being fair and even handed is an agenda then I guess I have one.

Barba certainly wasn't any worse than Boyd was at fullback this year.

Gee, and there's me thinking Boyd was suffering from depression, a depression so severe it was wrecking his life and ended up in hospitalisation ...it's no excuse is it. No matter, Boyd may come or he may not but comparisons are useless simply because we still don't know what the future holds. Everyone gets it Foordy, you don't want him to come and that view is shared by several others. Why can't we deal with his arrival if it actually happens.

Barba was also tried at fullback and found a Dally M.

And your agenda is that you need to mention in every post how you think you are so wise and how that makes all your posts so much more insightful. Which I see you are still doing.

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Ap, you are very good at ignoring posts that catch you out lying, just like the last one in which you claim, Barba out scored all the Broncos and most of the competition. How about a response to your erroneous and outrageous claim ?

We do not have four fullbacks, we have only one makeshift one in Hoffman and the useless Hodges( at least at fullback )
Jesus christ it was a tiny off the cuff comment that was used for effect - even in Barbas worst year before he joined us he still scored a tonne of tries. the fact that you could name a single player that beat him is irrelevant. it wasnt an outrageous claim lol.

also we do have four fullbacks - milford, barba, hoffman, hodges (in bennetts eyes). even without hodges, cause playing him there permanently would be idiotic, we have 3.

Boyd's intrinsic value, on those criteria, is overstated.

Clive Churchill - in an illegal/tainted/boring year without the best team in the comp playing. They wouldn't have beaten the Storm.

i agree, but we've had page after page of people saying how him winning a clive churchill medal and being picked every year for QLD shows how great of a player he is, so he must be worth top dollar.

Tbf, the words Barba and Fullback should never be spoken in the same sentence again, especially whilst we have Milford and potentially Boyd on the way.

There's literally no scenario in which Barba plays Fullback for the Broncos again.
if milford doesnt play fullback then barba should.

Barba won a freaking dally M for christs sake lol. hes a brilliant fullback, definitely better than boyd. did boyd win a dally m? no, he won a man of the match once lol.

We have a 6, names Anthony Milford. He played all juniors in the halves and was recruited to be a half. Unless we don't get Boyd he will be at 6 and even if we don't get Boyd, Bennett had said he likes Hodges at fullback
IIRC cameron smith played all his juniors in the halves too, doesn't mean hes not a better hooker.

Barba was better than Boyd in 2012.
Barba was better than Boyd in 2013.
Barba was better than Boyd in 2014.

Care to explain? Has Boyd been depressed for 3 years?

Anonymous person don't forget about Eden ... so we do have 4 fullbacks, 5 if you include Hodges

He didn't win it for catching bombs though. He won it for his attack. Now his attack has slowed down and he isn't the same player he once was. His catching ability gives the opposition too much of an advantage already. He is not a fullback, anymore.
