Barba vs Boyd

It's funny.

If Benny told some of you to jump off a cliff, you would.

If Benny told some of you NOT to jump off a cliff, you would.

This is simply one of the strangest posts I have ever seen on this forum ! That even includes that fredie ? bloke....at least I think that was his name...

Back to this weird post though....could you not write anyone's name instead of Benny's and still the post would mean the same....unless I am missing the point or it's a reference to some movie, tv show, book perhaps ......

“I’d like him to come back and play here but I’m leaving it to Darius,” Bennett said.

“There are a number of guys who are capable of playing fullback so we’ll see where Darius fits in.

“Darius hasn’t decided to come back yet so I don’t know what he’s thinking.

“Until he does that, I won’t be making too many moves.”

Just re-read the article and it seems to me at least that WB may have other plans for Darius....it certainly doesn't look like it's something he has already decided on. Perhaps he may go to wing but he could probably play quite a few positions and handle them reasonably well.

It would be strange if Pete used anyone else's name except the one he used. But as it stands, it made perfect sense to me.

Let me have this moment, Ari.

He'll figure it out eventually.

One of the Mata'Utia boys, or even Jake Mamo...

I mean, Kidley did a better job that Boyd ffs.

Sione Mata'utia wasn't eligible until the week he played.

Chanel is a winger, Pat is a centre and wasn't good enough to play grade.

I disagree on the rest - Boyd's poor form has been grossly exaggerated and the others weren't playing better footy during the period Boyd was.

So there is a discussion of the Body-Bennett relationship, whatever that is, and the Barba-Boyd discussion. Two separate, distinct issues.

All I am interested in is that the Broncos have the best FB next year. For mine, that is Milford. By a mile.

Boyd is a fine FB but he is not a game breaker like Milford. His "poor" performances for mine are not indicative of his quality. They are exceptions to the rule. I just know that if I had a choice between Boyd and Milford at FB, it would be Milford hands down.

At the end of the day, given that Boyd looks like he will be here next year, I just hope we don't lose Barba.

Whilst I don't want Boyd at fullback, if we do inevitably end up with him there, I think I'd actually prefer to lose to Barba.

The last thing I want is for there to be a back up halves option ahead of Ashley Taylor for the 2015 season.

We of course disagree about Barba, but we don't about Ash Taylor.

As far as Barba goes, for mine he has much more to offer. This season wasn't his best obviously (and neither was Boyd's), but he showed me just what he is capable of with some brilliant plays which Boyd (for mine) simply, is just unable able to do.

Boyd to wing. YES. Exactly where he plays so well for the Maroons.

One thing I will say about Barba is that he could, for mine, be moulded into a centre to replace Hodges. Lyon went okay at five eight but was able to use his skills at that position to become an elite centre. A part of me thinks the same is possible for Barba.

Interesting idea. I like it

Possibility that Barba may be shafted out of the team next year. If Boyd signed and played fullback where Milford should play Milford will play in the halves alongside Hunt taking Barba out of the starting team and being used as an impact player of the bench where I don't think he is suited.

If Boyd signed next year this is the backline we should go with. Barba didn't live up to expectations but shows some promise towards the end of the year and played his best footy in the halves and is worth keeping there. I'm not a fan of Boyd coming but I could live with it if he played on the wing it's the thought of him playing at fullback and shafting Milford out of his best position that shits me.

1: Milford
2: Vidot
3: Copley
4: Hodges
5: Boyd
6: Barba
7: Hunt

IMO with Bennett confirming he will definitely be playing Milford in the 5/8 role, the Barba vs Boyd for fullback argument is set to intensify.

I wanted Milford at fullback personally, but i can live with him at 5/8.

but i can't decide at the moment who i would prefer at fullback. i still think we need to find a place for Barba in the team, but I'm not sure fullback is that place, unless he can discover his 2011/2012 form.

Maybe we could slim Barba back to his 2012 playing weight and use him of the bench towards the end of each half.

I said ages ago that Barba will be our bench utility and I think it's a great idea. We have lacked impact players for years off the bench and now we will have a few coming off the bench. He has made some good scoots from hooker, can pass. McCullough isn't an 80 minute player, yet. I'm excited.

Well, with Milford being in the halves...I really couldn't give a shit which one of these guys plays fullback anymore, lol.

But I guess if Barba plays like he did this year, it's bench time for him. Otherwise, I'd prefer Boyd on the wing.

1 Boyd
2 Hoffman
3 Copley
4 Hodges
5 Vidot
6 Milford
7 Hunt
14 Barba

Premierships.

So how did he go at fullback in Brisbane or in 2013 for that matter? Don't bother answering because you will just make some excuse for him..I'll tell you even though it is self evident. He was shit at fullback and even Boyd had a better season than him in 2013 when he was at the Bulldogs so, no not really an option. Barba was tried and failed...surely you cannot dispute what we all saw ! If,again stressing if Boyd comes back to Brisbane he will perform, no doubt. Remember, it's WBs plan, not yours and if he wants Boyd, good enough. I don't give a **** if we have 50 fullbacks, WB wants him, he's the coach, he's got the credentials, why argue. Just accept it.
So Barba's 2013 season issues aren't a valid reason for his below average performance, and define why he isn't an option. But Boyd's being crap for 3 seasons in a row, especially 2014, is not defining of anything, and he will definitely perform without a doubt! Cool story...

Why did you criticise Hook and his choices on this forum? It was his team, he was the coach, why argue?
Why didn't you accept it?
When you're a coach and have your own team, you can make your own decisions.

You forgot to put the line in where Wayne says that Boyd is the best fullback of them all (don't argue this please, it is very clear in his interview's video), but don't let that get in the way of your argument...

P.S. I don't think you have to worry... I don't see Wayne jumping off a bridge any time soon, nor asking anyone to do it...

More than ever, after reading the last interview, I really hope we don't get Boyd, simply because I truly believe Wayne cannot be objective with him.
They just have too close a relationship to allow Benny to dump Darius, even if that was better for the team, be it because of his affection for him, or for fear of causing him distress and sending him in a downward spiral.

Bennett is far too clever and too good a coach to actually believe Boyd would potentially be the best fullback at the club. It's better for the club and Wayne that Boyd stays at the Knights or goes to another club, as I do believe it's the only way WB can be fair with everyone on the Broncos roster, including our U20's, and put the best 17 on the paddock.

They can still have a close relationship, while allowing Darius to learn to stand on his own feet... and break away from this seemingly borderline unhealthy attachment to his mentor.

For all the hate and shit about Boyd/bennetts relationship that has been said, I think it is all a null point because you can't have Milford and barba in the same spine. They are too similar and it just won't work. This isn't bennett thoughts to justify signing Boyd, this is been said by commentators, journalists, fans Etc for ages.

Boyd at the back will lead us to a premiership
