Barba vs Boyd

Re: Wayne Bennett related player movement discussion

Jayden is a hooker/ half so Boyd should not have any influence. He has also got at least two years left in 20s
Sure, keep telling yourself that...
The only reason Jayden has been playing relief hooker, is to toughen him up in defense, like they did with Hunt.

Boyd is only 27, so if he is fullback by decree, there are only 2 spots for the likes of Hunt, Milford, Barba, Taylor and both Nikorimas. Tell me again how that doesn't influence keeping Jayden.

The Broncos see him as a possible hooker, check his profile if you do not believe me. If he is to make it in the backs it will be up against Hunt, Milford, and Taylor not a fullback whoever that may be.
The fact he is playing hooker in the 20s has nothing to do with toughening him up, they are testing him in multiple positions

Haha because if there's something that will toughen someone up defensively, it's defending in the front line in the NYC..

Re: Brisbane Broncos scrap co-captains

When did he say he wants to bring Boyd here ? I might of missed it ?

from this article:

Bennett said he would love to lure Boyd, who was poised to walk away from his final year at Newcastle after undergoing treatment at a mental health facility.

The master coach also confirmed he wanted Russell Packer at the club but was still having registration talks with the NRL.
Currently in jail for assault, Packer is eligible for release in January.

Bennett inherits a player list that features plenty of fullback talent, including Test centre Justin Hodges, who reignited Brisbane’s finals chances when he switched to the No.1 jersey.

But Bennett was adamant Boyd would be fullback if he returned. “They all bring different things but Darius is the best of them all,” he said.

god i hope not ... the NYC is one of the most useless comps fro developing players ... we need to move him to the ISC as soon as we can

Let's all keep in mind that Packer will be coming on absolute bargain basement wage.... We want the best team on the park as fans, which means buying players like Boyd. If we can achieve this by only losing Hannant, and a few other fringe players, and gaining a bigger, more imposing prop and an Australian player then I'm all for it.

If we were to all of a sudden start taking into consideration off field indiscretions, then Barba would be gone, as would Thaiday, Vidot etc etc.

I'm not advocating what Packer did, but I am happy to give anyone a second chance. If he stuffs up again, by all means he deserves what he gets, but I think we all deserve a second shot.

Re: The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

I don't think you can compare what Packer did to what Thaiday, Vidot and Barba have done.

Just stating how young he still is

Good point. In the eyes of the law, Packer has served his time. Does that count for something? Whether the sentence was too light or harsh is a separate issue. Whether he deserves a second chance in NRL (or in life) is also a separate issue. Let the Broncos play the cards as they're dealt.

Sorry BB, I may not have put that as eloquently as I should have. I am not comparing them, merely pointing out that most people have had off field indiscretions of some degree. Yes, Packers was serious to the point of incarceration, but if he has done his time, why can't we offer him a chance to turn his life around?

I run a business, and if someone applied for a job at my company, and had a history like this, but was genuinely reformed and wanted to prove he could become a real genuine contributor to my organisation, I would absolutely give them a chance and guide them. No better person to do that than Wayne Bennett.

Re: The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

Packer is just an average prop...

Re: The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

So is Hannant. The only difference is some guys may think twice about running at Packer.

doubtful ...

having him on the Rosters is only taking up a spot that can be better utilised

Do you rate Packer at all? Yeah I know his 80m a game is not much to brag about but with a stat like that the only way is up. He brings plenty of positives. For example, he's played in big games so has big match experience. He's not intimidated by top tier teams like the Storm (which clearly have the wood and a major psychological edge over a lot of our players) and played well against them.

I like Hannant and his stats are always good but I don't think he's really kicked on. He still makes crucial errors during games and doesn't seem to be able to halt opposition teams when there is a momentum swing.

Re: The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

No i don't rate Packer at all ... I think we we were looking for a prop his size, we could find better, or make do with what we have coming through the ranks. guys like Molo, Garbutt, Ofahengaue, Hala etc

Re: The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

I really don't understand why he wants Packer so badly, when we have promising forwards already within the 2015 squad.

Re: The Wayne Bennett Super thread!

Wayne is just EXTREMELY stingy when he comes to front row forwards.

This is how current negotiations are progressing...
