Broncos Player Movements and Rumours 2013

The Broncos didn't offer Beale 330k.
He would have stayed if they did regardless if he was stuck on the wing. He has a young family to look after.

I'd take Beale over what Hoffman offered in the 2nd half of last year, but it's really not a big step up. I think Hoffman will be back to being better once he wakes up a bit. Either way, they are both in the low tier of NRL fullbacks.

Beale isn't worth 330K, no way in hell. I'm glad they didn't offer him that kind of coin!

You'll probably find we are paying Hoffman around that mark.

Steve Renouf's plea: get Israel Folau back to stem Brisbane Broncos' talent crisis
Dan Koch February 28, 2013 12:00AM

FORMER Test centre and Brisbane legend Steve Renouf has implored those in charge to do "whatever it takes" to lure Israel Folau back to the Broncos next season, fearing his club is facing a previously unimaginable crisis in its playing stocks.

Recruited from Melbourne at the end of 2008, Folau showed why he is one of Australian sport's most sought-after commodities, scoring 37 tries in just 38 matches during his two years in Brisbane.
Following a lucrative, though unfulfilling stint in the AFL, Folau opted against returning to the NRL this season, instead choosing to sign a one-year deal with the NSW Waratahs for this year's Super Rugby season.
Renouf said Folau remained a "rare talent" and urged Broncos coach Anthony Griffin and football operations manager Andrew Gee to make it a priority to have him back in Broncos colours next year.
According to Renouf, Brisbane heads into the season with its stocks of backline talent at an all-time low and little in the way of promise for the future. "The strike weapons just aren't there anymore and I think it could really become a major issue for the Broncos if something major isn't done to address it," Renouf said.

"A huge amount of talent has been allowed to leave ... and it now looks like they are in the position of simply being unable to replace that departing talent.
"Outside of Justin Hodges, who is coming to the end of his career, it is hard to see where the points are going to come from this season."
The loss of Dale Copley (knee) for the season was a blow for Griffin given the cloud over winger Jharal Yow Yeh, also on the long-term injured list.
But Renouf said questions needed to be asked about how players such as Folau, Greg Inglis, Gerard Beale, Antonio Winterstein, Reece Robinson and boom youngster Dane Gagai had been allowed to slip through the club's fingers.
"I can't remember a time when the club had so little strike out wide ... Think of guys like Wendell (Sailor) and Lote (Tuqiri), Willie Carne, Michael Hancock, Brent Tate ... Brisbane's backline has always been a strength."
There is still conjecture about the best backline, with Corey Norman's most effective spot up for debate.
While Griffin has indicated Josh Hoffman would again start the year at fullback, former Test halfback and commentator Greg Alexander suggested it was time for a rethink.

"They need more out of the fullback position than they are getting from Josh Hoffman ... Corey Norman would provide a bit more of what you need there," Alexander said.
"With Norman at the back and Scott Prince and Pete Wallace in the halves - in those three you have the sort of spread of attacking options you need in today's game."

Even Liam Georgetown's uncle is concern.

Yes the names on the left are all cricket players and the ones on the right are all nrl players. Very good work

I'd probably make Pattinson McGuire. When he's on fire, McGuire delivers, just like Patto. Unfair to link McGuire to Maxwell, who delivers once in 20 games and only by fluke.

Linking Kahu to Watson also doesn't make much sense. Watson is a great batsman with an excellent technique and is also a very good bowler, one of the best allrounders in the world. Kahu...hasn't played a single game?

Missed the point.
Kahu and Watson both injury prone.
McGuire and Maxwell are both known as THE BIG SHOW!

I know they share the nickname. One has actually shown a glimmer of delivering on it.

Oh ok well if we are spotting similarities like we are in grade three then Clarke is Norman (both have six letters) smith is Stagg (both have five letters and start with an 's')

Norman (Khawaja) Shows a lot of promise, but yet to harness it. If he does he could end up being a great player, if not could end up being disgarded.
Hoffman (Cowan) After a slow start, started to show some promise, however is really struggling for form. Close to being dropped if he doesn't improve his form, however nobody really threatening his position.
Reed (Siddle) Tries his heart out in every game he plays. Not flashy, but reliable. Pretty safe in the team, but a string of poor performances could see his position under pressure.
Hodges (Clarke) Carrying the team.
Maranta (Bird) Has been impressive during his few opportunities, but really hasn't been given a long run. Could be a very solid and reliable player.
Prince (Harris) Fantastic player, but is he past his best? Injury prone, but when when fit is a match winner.
Wallace (Watson) Has shown absolute brilliance for a season or two, mixed with some seasons of very ordinary performances. If he can stay injury free can be an allround match winner.
McGuire (Hughes) In and out of the side early in his career. Has shown brilliance and lapses in form.
McCullough (Starc) A great player at times, but a little inconsistent. As he plays more he is developing maturity, almost ready to play full-time.
Thaiday (Johnson) Can be fantastic when in the right conditions, but can be very ordinary when not. A key player in the team when things are going right, but a liability when not.
Glenn (Pattinson) Very reliable player and rarely puts in a poor performance. A vital cog in the team.
Gillett (Warner) A great attacking player, but his attacking want can cause errors and poor performances, growing in maturity and not as streaky as early in his career.
Parker (M. Hussey) Reliable and you know what you get from him. Rarely fails.

Hunt (Cutting) Just won't (or rarely) gets selected in his preferred position. Has shown brilliance at times, but always gives 100%. Needs to be shown some more faith.
Hannant (Ponting) Once a brilliant player, is age catching up with him? Can he regain his good form?
Dodds (Faulkner) Young player with promise. Where will his career head?
Stagg (Hauritz) Returning home. Not a flashy player, but very reliable.

Wow the player movements and rumours thread certainly took a weird direction!

I was hoping to come on and find out that JT was coming to the Broncos, not comparing the Broncos with the Aust cricket team!
