Semantics.

It’s like calling predatory lawyers “Ambulance chasers” and then someone pointing out “actually, lawyers don’t even chase ambulances. The marketing team puts billboards up in low socioeconomic areas”.
It isn't at all. The demarcation of editorial and sales is central to journalistic ethics.

Chris Garry does a great job of doing that without being a total scumbag. Many seem to struggle with it.
I always assumed everyone hated Peter Fitzsimons but now he's carrying the torch for the Republican movement, so he must be the most likable guy in the country. Guess everyone likes their coffee different.

If their editorials aren’t selling they don’t have jobs
We can't derail the thread with this, but no, Weidler is not writing stories to generate ad sales. Honestly, it really really doesn't work like that. He doesn't give a flying **** about ad sales. He cares about himself.

He's just a stringer.

Well I know a lot of journalists and I don't think that's fair. Their job is to find out stuff and then run back and tell you. They don't always get the story right, and neither do you when you repeat it to someone else.

Dont agree with you one bit. I dont go around telling the world things if i'm not getting my facts right. And you would know as well as i do, they dont always tell the whole truth and they dont get their stories by asking nicely. Plenty of them dont give a shit whose toes they tread on or whose feelings they hurt when they chase these stories. Its not something thats exclusive to Australian sports journalists either, its worldwide.

I reckon sports journalists are fairly low on the totem pole of *****. Have you ever met a real estate agent?

Weidler wouldn't have a job if the trash he "writes" doesn't generate clicks. There would be far better journalists who would be more honest, have more integrity, and may even have better inside knowledge. But he doesn't get the job if his shit doesn't get clicks. There may not be a direct relationship between the writer and the clicks but the media company certainly determines which writers are better for the bottom line.

Broncos should try and sign papalii as a forward leader.

On another note, Hodgson is looking worse each game. I was hoping we’d sign him at one stage but boy am I glad that didn’t happen.
I'm so with you on this bro. he's never been the same since doing his knee. He seems hesitant and in two minds on nearly every play.

I don't love him as a player, but Peachey as a short-term ball playing lock could be a very astute signing, if he comes cheap.

In games starting at lock for the Titans this season, these are his numbers -

9 games - 56 minutes per game, 3 tries, 4 linebreaks, 5 try assists, 2 linebreak assists, 6 forced dropouts, 26 tackle busts, 114 running metres per game, 24 tackles per game @ 91% efficiency.

You'll struggle to find more attacking returns from a lock this year on a per-minute basis.

IMO he's rocks and diamonds and a highlights reel player. Extremely talented but erratic and inconsistent. Not the sort of player we need if we're looking for consistency and reliability. Exactly the sort of flash/hype player that the Titans seem to target in order to have something shiny to show the Gold Coast public. Firm "no" from me.

Yeah completely agree that he's rocks and diamonds. I will however say that I think he's far less erratic when he's starting in the middle. When he's coming off the bench, or playing out in the centres or something, that's when he starts trying to do a miracle play every time he touches the footy. If he's in the middle for 50 mins and touching the ball every set, I think he'll be a positive contributor overall.

Nope, he’ll want too much and we aren’t short in inconsistent forwards.

What are these damn "clicks" you blokes are always on about? Where do they go, what happens when you "click" on them? Did you survive the experience? Are you out of pocket and seek compensation?

For the last time, reporters provide part of the product. They don't package the product. They don't market the product. They don't worry about if it sells. They fill a commission. They don't write headlines. They aren't connected with revenue, ads, marketing, site design. They don't EVER think about how the newspaper makes money.

If their stories don't pan out to be true, it could be for a multitude of reasons, of which incompetency, laziness and having a punt on a hunch are only three. Managing the publication's revenue stream is the least likely. It's not even a starter.

On a final note. You fucking guys, honestly. And one of you in this thread, notably. You fucking love this unsubstantiated gossip. I had half a dozen of you in my IM telling me freaky shit about Seibold, that was very likely untrue, but a friend of a friend of a friend swore by it. Every time a player is caught with his pants around his ankles, that thread will be a kangaroo court of hanging judges based on the most flimsiest evidence as it trickles in.

J'accuse not the journalist, but you, the reader. You're all *****, and you know it. No disrespect, but you can all get fucked. I need a coffee.
